Back when you could set up your ignition system with a paper matchbook. Use the thickness of a match to gap the plugs, and the cover of the matchbook to set the points gap. Merry Christmas.
Something tells me if Grandpa started telling stories to the youngins about Mr. C&C, their mouths would drop to the deck in wonderment of how he made it this far!!!! Yep, they have someone in the garage who could really say - been their done that!! Great videos, thanks.
That takes me back to when I first started driving. I bought my first car in 1972. I did many tuneups back in the day. This will be an experience your son will never forget.
Next episode on the Ranchero teach the boys how to do a "Neutral Drop" and a "Brodie" you'll get the "Roadkill" father of the year. award. Don't forget the fuel filter on the carb and the PCV valve they look like they have been in there since Nixon was in office.🍻
Of all the TH-cam channels I watch, yours is the only one that my wife will sit down and watch with me. She was laughing her butt off at your escapades in that Ranchero.
Clint, you disappoint me. On a Ford, pull the plugs. While they are out, remove the points and condenser and install the new ones. Don't tighten down the points. hook up a dwell meter. While the engine is turning over with the starter, set the dwell and tighten the points. Loosen the distributor hold down bolt slightly. Insert plugs, wires and start the engine. Once warmed up, adjust the timing and tighten the distributor. Oh yeah, to lubricate the distributor cam lobe, put a tiny amount of grease on the end of your finger and wipe it down. There's a reason Captain Kleeman is my go-to guy for mechanic work and you're still second. Have a fantastic new year guys and gal.
Takes me back to when I was sixteen and those 74’s were new! I’ve spent hours working on those engines. If you didn’t get a chrome air filter you’d flip the lid on the stock haha. Needs a set of headers now!
In a shop I worked at in the early 70's (yep got some years) boss called it the APPCT (annual - points - plugs - condenser - tune) and if there was still a little stumble in that gas engine some water through the carb and/or and uphill higher rpm (race car) tune/clean. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year for the JOY you bring too many! 🧑🎄
I remember unplugging the vacuum advance and using a dwell meter to set the points perfectly, adjusting the points thru the little sliding metal window. I just found my old dwell meter on a shelf. Haven't used it since the mid 70s. Found the timing light too. As low as that car is can it go over the railroad tracks?
I am 75 and it certainly took me back to the early years. Once all the electronics came I stop working on cars. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺It Christmas Day so Happy Christmas
LMAO!!! I'm literally rolling on the floor!! I have never seen such old teenagers in life as Clint and Kevin. What a fun and entertaining video you have there, Merry Christmas to all !!!
My dad had a 72 Ford country squire station wagon. It came with a 400 c. I was told they made that configuration from 71 and 72. For a big old boat, she flew down the road.
Fun stuff. Lube the distributor plates and a few drops of oil in the center wick. I had a '66 Ranchero with a 289. I was going to drop a 351W in it, but had to leave it behind when I moved.
CLINT I know this was in November but as you weren’t there when the radiator went in it didn’t see the bottom bracket. I used to own a Radiator business amongst other businesses and the Fords have a bracket mount on the bottom corner of the radiator a little similar to the top with a rubber insert. Now it is ESSENTIAL that you either make one or buy one with the rubber insert, if not the radiator will rub thru from the metal bottom support and BINGO your lovely new radiator will be ratshit. I always ran 60% Glycol anti freeze anti boil in the Clevelands especially if the engine and heater system was still wet, then when complete you will have 50% system due to dilution. The old radiator would have had a stress fracture in the header tank you can just solder that up, but I had new tanks and would install them. A lot of Clevelands here in Australia as the Ford Falcon’s had them back in the day, we had both the 2V and the 4V heads. We ran one in a drag car running in 11sec bracket the 4V has enormous valves.
Wow, what a gem! 😍 The 1974 Ford Ranchero with the 351 Cleveland is such a classic, and it’s exciting to see if it can be restored to a daily driver again. The potential in this time capsule is incredible, and with the right work, it could definitely be back on the road in style! Can’t wait to see how this restoration unfolds. This will be an amazing project to follow! 🚗💨
** YES, part 2. Thank you for the year full of awesome videos. Merry Christmas, to you, your family. Kevin and his....and of course mr. Randy, uncle Scott and sales gentleman. Happy, healthy, prosperous, blessed and wonderful New Year. Cheers
Another great video Clint. With all the different TH-cam channels I watch C&C equipment is number one on my list always look forward to seeing your next video. You have a great TH-cam channel I hope you reach a million subscribers soon Merry Christmas. 👍🎅👍
Ranchero may not be winning any beauty contests anytime soon, but for 50 years old Ranchero in relatively good shape. youngings struggling with the old 2 feet driving art was hilarious. Tucker redeemed himself with that last burnout. Merry Christmas C&C crew
Hey Clinton, Super happy to see you teaching Hunter valuable life skills! There's probably 10,000 boys that wish you were their father and 10,000 fathers shaking their heads! Great video! Part 2 is needed! Thumbs up! Jim
I had a friend in high school who had one of these. We all called it the cruck! Lots of fun. He was going to tune it up so the first thing he did was pull all the plug wires at once without taking note of the firing order! It took him a week to get it running again LOL! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year C&C crew!
I owned a 74 Ranchero, most came with 351 Y block. Very few were Cleveland or C block. Fun to own, I had a white with an orange stripe. Have you found hidey hole behind driver’s seat. Goes back under bed. I think when Kevin was driving in that plug, water was dripping out the water pump.
Great episode and what a nice old Ranchero..hardly no rust at all. Reminds me about when my brother and I took a 7 hour train ride buying a 1971 Ranchero many years ago, had custom paint job & very nice condition. Ran like a Cadillac down the roads, one finger style, good heater and space to loud stuff on the back & hitch. That's a keeper Clint and I am sure Hunter will be popular with the girls in this car... sweet ride !! 🤠
I had a bunch of Grand Torino's from 72-74. I had a 74 Wagon the same color as this. Loved that car. It had a 302 that had no blowby. the oil coming out looked like the oil going in and the inside of the tail pipe was white and dripped water.
I had the Ford Gran Torino 351 Cleveland. It was my first car back in 1988-89 my uncle bought it for me. Same exact color as this Ranchero, but it had primer red fenders
28 years ago is the last time I fitted points, that was to a motorcycle (BMW R75/5), it was much easier than this but then again I knew little else. Watch the channel, every episode, keep it coming.
We definitely need a part 2
3 blokes full of burritos in a Ranchero would have an atmosphere all it's own.
Cheers Eric
@@midgoog2 too funny!!!!
“We’re teaching these kids valuable skills here” 🤣
Absolutely 😂
Really enjoyed 'The Three Amigos'! Part 2 please!
Hunter just slid right in behind the wheel, and settled right in. I think the ole’ Ranchero fits him well. Love to see a part 2.
Thank you sir.
Back when you could set up your ignition system with a paper matchbook. Use the thickness of a match to gap the plugs, and the cover of the matchbook to set the points gap. Merry Christmas.
Part 2 and Hunter also needs to fix the snow-mobile from last time too! Bubs!
Something tells me if Grandpa started telling stories to the youngins about Mr. C&C, their mouths would drop to the deck in wonderment of how he made it this far!!!! Yep, they have someone in the garage who could really say - been their done that!! Great videos, thanks.
Remind me of my younger years
Seeing this video made me fell young again I love the old cars
I was 20 years old when this car came out. I absolutely love it. This will be a wonderful car to drive to school. Thank you for sharing! 😊

That takes me back to when I first started driving. I bought my first car in 1972. I did many tuneups back in the day. This will be an experience your son will never forget.
That for sure will make a bunch of guys laugh, power braking and cracking up at the same time! Priceless!
Yes to part 2! Best parts of this video were the lunch runs.
Next episode on the Ranchero teach the boys how to do a "Neutral Drop" and a "Brodie" you'll get the "Roadkill" father of the year. award. Don't forget the fuel filter on the carb and the PCV valve they look like they have been in there since Nixon was in office.🍻

My Dad had a 1972 Ranchero with a 351 Cleveland. Ran great.

Definitely a part 2 of the Ranchero.
Excellent lessons for the young ones!
Clint, best dad ever, loved this vid.
Love to see part #2 keep up the good work
My father in law bought one just like it new….everyone in the family called it “The Queen Mary”…was a great car for swap meets etc.
One of the things I like about you guys is that I never hear you cuss or use foul language … Thank You!

30:48 - Nothing beats the charm of an analog dashboard! 🕰
I remember the days of using two feet on three pedals. Those were the good ole days.
Brilliant car, looks so cool real Americana. Can't wait to see it in more episodes, so where the cutting machine was is now a car shop. 😂👍
Thanks for the great videos this year, and Merry Christmas to all at CC Equiment
Three guys making valuable memories together. These are good times. For sure.
Takes me back to when I was sixteen and those 74’s were new! I’ve spent hours working on those engines. If you didn’t get a chrome air filter you’d flip the lid on the stock haha. Needs a set of headers now!
Need part 2, lucky guy Hunter
Just love the sound of that 351 Cleveland. Great video!!!!
I love it when a plan comes together, that car is a keeper. Dave D.
Loved this episode! Keep up the great work! I sure enjoy seeing Hunter helping out and dodging all the crap you guys throw!
Liked this video, it was really good at the 52 minute mark.
In a shop I worked at in the early 70's (yep got some years) boss called it the APPCT (annual - points - plugs - condenser - tune) and if there was still a little stumble in that gas engine some water through the carb and/or and uphill higher rpm (race car) tune/clean. Your car and truck videos are the best.
Merry Christmas C&C family. Nothing beats some C&C on Christmas morning, especially when they're working on a FORD.
Love the equipment videos but would love to see more videos on the ranchero and lightning truck! Big ford guy here!!
Great video guys,😁👍, and thanks for sharing.

“ I think Hunter can drive this to school” total dad humor! I would say the same to my son.
Part 2 for sure.
She really is a cool old car. Damn good shape for its year. That would make a nice show car. Don't see a whole lot of em around
Yep, choke function is everything on those old carb engines, that was a lean backfire out the carb. Nice car!
Worked on those every day.
My dad bought that same ranchero in 74 with a 63 falcon as a package deal and both were baby blue 😂 local ford dealer Cincinnati
That was funny stuff you are teaching your boys the right way to do things great video Mr C
On the early models, the firing order was stamped on the intakes. That's not a bad Rancho for the age. Thanks for the video. Need part 2
She is a keeper
