    I've been a Toastmaster for a few years. I've studied SO many speakers. This is not my favorite speech "topic" (it is great though) but it is by far my favorite DELIVERY. Jock is the first Championship contender that I've seen that didnt seem overly scripted or contrived. I find his delivery genuine, authentic, and moving. Best contest delivery i've ever seen. I could listen to him all day.

    watching this speech just makes me realize that the topic itself is not so much a matter as the way the speaker delivers it. the topic of this speech is somehow a cliche but he talked so well that it really livened up the whole speech.

    I agree. The delivery was passionate but authentic & composed. So many other speeches seem overly enthusiastic & dramatic. This is not necessary when you captivate with your voice & delivery.

    Jock loved your speech. It brought a tear to my eye. Who indeed can you rely upon if not your friends and family? Loved your delivery you made it look so easy. From a fellow Toastmaster and Queenslander.

    What a rather unique style of speaking--punctuating thoughts and melodic delivery.
    Of course, the universal message of love never fails and I SO AGREE about Facebook and having many friends but who of them will rise at 3 to aid you if you ask?
    Congratulations Jock on winning the 2011 International Speech Competition!

    A very charming and sweet speech. I like how he took on a message that was very real and not quite so cliche. I would love to see him get a little more pumped and passionate at key points of the speech, pouring his heart out for the friends he holds close to his heart. I thought Kwong had the winning speech, but not to take anything away from Jock, i think this is a great feather for his career and life.

    I don't know if you have seen Craigslist Joe. This is a true story about a guy who goes out in the world with no money, food and, on the condition he can't talk to any one he knows for 30 (or 31) days and has to get by in the world with Craigslist. And, he manages to. Whilst it would seem obvious that people generally wouldn't help you in the world, this movie depicts a different reality. Pennies worth.

    Are these improvised or prepared? Would be the epitome of public speaking if it's made up on the spot, otherwise anyone could spend ages practicing a speech and delivering it.

    • @SpeakertheHatman
      @SpeakertheHatman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Indeed anyone can do it. It's called practise and honing skills. Jock will have worked for years to get that good and he reached the pinnacle with this speech. He will have had a couple of other speeches to deliver to get him there.
