    I am genuinely concerned about how many people believe that two people of the opposite sex cannot be friends or get along without having hidden romantic/sexual intentions.

    No, Wendy doesn’t have a thing for Bandit. Just as much as Pat doesn’t have a thing for Chilli. They’re just longtime caring neighbours. Sticky Gecko has Chilli tell Bluey that after Bluey was born, Wendy made the family five lasagnas. Now, take into consideration the reveal in Baby Race that Wendy was also in the same Mum’s Group Chilli was in. Meaning Wendy was either a new mother or still heavily pregnant with Judo yet she still went out of her way to support them.
    I feel like people aren’t fair to Wendy and Judo because they refuse to let go of Butterflies regarding Judo (even though she apologised, was forgiven and has since been more inclusive) or Wendy’s shocked behaviour in earlier episodes (I’d be shocked too if I was working in my garden only to see my neighbour wiping his bum on a window or playing out a water birth enactment) that the bitterness still holds even when the episode is supposed to show they AREN’T stuck-up bullies.
    And of course Wendy interfered in Ragdoll. Because how else were the girls going to be able to get the ice cream promised if they managed to get Bandit there if they couldn’t lift him in the car or drive? The girls still learned a lesson about hard work, they still got their ice cream and we got to see Wendy does actually care about her neighbours (even calling the girls endearing terms).

      I agree. I always laugh at Wendy's reactions to Bandit's shinanigans. She probably thinks the Heelers are slowly losing their minds. 😂

    I really like Space because I’m just personally very much a fan of psychology topics, and dealing with anxiety and repressed memories in a kid’s show is really cool. There’s a channel called Pugly that dives into Bluey episodes from a therapist’s perspective, and in his episode on Space, he pointed out how MacKenzie demonstrates in many episodes throughout the series that he’s prone to anxiety and uses isolation as a coping mechanism.

    I actually like Wendy and Judo, but it would probably take too long to explain why in a TH-cam comment haha! I definitely don’t think she is into Bandit. Everyone is free to have their own thoughts about this show for kids, but I do like them.
    As for the cutting their own hair, Wendy did fix Bandit’s mullet before. My mother is a cosmetologist, so she’s always cut and dyed my hair. It seems Wendy knows a lot about taking care of hair since she probably grew up learning how to take care of it and had to help Judo take care of her’s. So her cutting her own hair just reminds me of when my mom cuts her own hair bc no one else does it how she likes it. :)

    I really can't understand watching americans watch bluey content whenever the adult characters cheer for or compliment other adults.
    They instantly tense up and get an odd look on their face, like when Bandit complimented Wendy's hair, or comments I saw on a video of Lucky's dad cheering for Chilli during a dance-mode moment.
    Is complimenting an adult considered flirting? So...I can NEVER say anything nice to my neighbors without the street thinking I'm trying to sidle into a happy marriage?

    Wow, dude. Completely different reaction to Wendy from me. She’s hilarious and friendly. You’re just adding a bunch of nasty attitude to her that she’s never had. At MOST she gets startled at the weirdness going on next door.
    Would you NOT get weirded out if the guy next door mooned you by pressing his rear up on his glass door or took a leak outside right in front of everyone? Because that’s what Wendy’s had to deal with.

    • @EchoBravo370
      @EchoBravo370 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

      True. Wendy just has a it of posh accent. But that says nothing about who she is as a person. And as Chilli said in 'Sticky Gecko", Wendy is really lovely. And made 5 lasagnes for the family when Bluey was born.

    • @XShadOBabeX
      @XShadOBabeX 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Yes! EXACTLY!
      And shoot, what I listed before isn’t even all of the weirdness that Wendy tolerates. Bandit trotted over to her yard on all fours, bleating like a sheep, yanked down her laundry with his teeth and then head butted her in the bum when she very reasonably called for Chili to come get her weird husband. XD
      She immediately leaves Chili be when she’s made aware of Chili needing some alone time and reassures Bluey that her mother loves her.

    I cant stand the wendy slander! dirt was such a turning point for judo and wendy. like to me theyre extremely black coded. Taking care of your hair as a black person is a lot of work and can hold you back from things like playing in the dirt. Wendy is a great mother, complimenting her kid and growing. the heeler family definitely helped with that. shes often a bit weirded out by what the kids and bandit do but you can really see her trying to stop being so stuck up. I think its because of her divorce and because of judo. The heeler kids and their parents are so close with each other because the parents dont look down on the kids. So going short was more than wendy cutting judos hair because she wants to play in the dirt that badly. Its wendy giving judo the freedom of getting to be a child and taking that step with her kid. giving up such a big part of their identity, a part that judo probably didnt want.

    • @RectPropagation
      @RectPropagation 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Yes, I also felt like the Dirt episode was an (allegory/metaphor/whatever the correct term is) to dealing with thick, textured hair. Even the "we're known for our long, beautiful coats" feels similar to public expectations for that hair type. (For example, a clothing brand did an ad campaign for kids' clothing that featured kids with messy hair and people got angry about the little black gir having messy hair.)

    You're like the only human on the planet that seems to dislike Wendy :) She is literally like that posh lady in the Marx Brothers movies who was the straight man who had all the chaos happen around her. She doesn't impose on the Heelers, they impose on her. She only became active later, and her most beloved moment was the most active, in Ragdoll where she hefts Bandit with her Pilates muscles. Her being a posh toff is why she's so beloved, being the phrase catcher for Bandit's "Morning, Wendy!"

  • @TaniDraws

    Wendy and Judo are great characters, and as many have already said: No, Wendy isn't into Bandit, you can be friendly with people without it meaning you're flirting. Wendy is a good friend of Chilli's, she wouldn't just try to steal Bandit away.

    As a Mom with PTSD I felt Space. During an attack you don't know why you're being pulled there and I didn't fully understand it either until it was pointed out that I was stuck in the past and to make it through I needed to forgive myself for things I held myself responsible for. So like Calypso someone helped me recognize I now knew what was there and no longer needed to come back to the dark place.

    Stories is a nice silly breather for Bluey, it's a good message for kids to not talk down on yourself and to keep trying. I enjoy Winton's silly antics and him just randomly being like Dr Strange is classic Winton behaviour lol
    Dirt is important because it shows how you as a parent unintentionally cause your child to internalize your insecurities. Because of Wendy's pride in her hair, it bleeds into Judo who becomes anxious to get dirty because looking pretty is so important to Wendy. But Wendy realized that her words were affecting Judo a lot more than she had noticed. So Wendy cuts her hair to show Judo that having fun is more important than looking pretty. It's a wholesome episode because Wendy is the one learning a lesson in change, which you don't often see because Bandit changes for his girls all the time.
    Space makes me so sad, because Mackenzie is my favourite character in Bluey. And you can see in his expression when Jack/Dude-a-tron is explaining a blackhole, that it triggered a memory inside his head. And you can just kind of feel Mackenzie's confusion to his own actions. He really doesn't know what made him feel that way or why he is pushing his friends away. He just feels confused. And it just shows how much he trusts Rusty and Jack, because he feels comfortable enough to explore these confusing emotions with his friends. And Rusty encouraging him by letting him walk into the blackhole is really sweet. That said, I don't think that Calypso was actually in Mackenzie's memory and he just replaced whoever it was with her since she was actually in front of him and grounded him in reality. Before the aliens tried to snatch him

    I connected with the message in dirt that even though you might been seen in one particular way, you can always take the power and change to become who you want. Like Wendy taking the power to change so that judo can enjoy being a kid and getting dirty.

    Wendy is great in episodes she is in, especially Dirt, Sheepdog, and Ragdoll. The running gag of "Morin' Wendy" is always great. In Sticky Gecko Chili does see Wendy as a good friend and neighbor because when Bluey was born she made like 5 lasagna, so she does care about the Heeler family just got weird out sometimes like with the episodes Work with Bandit's butt on the window and Tina seeing Chili and Bandit toss something invisible in their car and Bandit saying "You didn't see anything"

    Redeeming Wendy - I feel like Wendy character is fully missed but what might help is realising she is a Chow
    “Chow chows are not usually social, outgoing dogs. They tend to be aloof with strangers and can be aggressive with other dogs”
    I also believe she is LGBT+
    She is English so has probably been raised differently (very proper) than where she lives now how ever is trying to to adapt to her new environment also she is and has always been fiercely protective of her close friends like Chilli -cooking 5 lasagnas, pissed at lucky’s Dad for what she sees is inappropriate behaviour “woohooing” Chilli while she’s dancing, understanding instantly what chilli needed when she said to bandit she “needs 20mins”
    As chilli says she want bluey to be a lovely grown up just like Wendy!
    And you don’t want to go against Chilli with that side glare

    Man Space hits harder for me when I think about it, cause that sorta happended to me once.
    We were going home from a playground in the evening and dad went with a friend to get the car, while mum and siblings went to the pick up spot, due to it been parcked further away due to us not finding parking closer. But I wanted to go with dad and he said no, but I still chased them, and fanfuct little kiddy legs cant catch up to a motercycle. And I could find mum when I tried to go back so I did the only logical thing my mind came up with and climbed up a tree. Now this was the central plaza and it was pretty empty, and a some point a gentleman saw me there, asked what I was doing, I said I was waiting for my parents, and he just sat bellow the tree to keep me company, eventually tho he asked if I wanted to come down and go to the police which was across from us, and we did, and dad came to pick me up later, and we all got in a bit of an argument/apologising for everything.
    Were all cool with it these days tho, sometimes laugh about it.

    Honestly, the first time I saw Wendy in the series, I thought she was stuckup and saw the Heelers at the wrong place, wrong time during their games. However, over the season, Wendy started to grow on me at the most surprising moments. Even Dirt caught me off guard. She really is a neat mom once you take time to understand her. Same with Judo.
    What I love about Bluey is that you get to learn more about the characters with each passing episode. How they grow and have their own layers we never expected. And the lessons behind them are subtle and or very straightforward. ❤

  • @cpcoultertweedles7216
    @cpcoultertweedles7216 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Wendy doesn't get enough credit. She can be a bit hoity-toity, and she doesn't always understand the Heeler's games, but she tries hard to get involved, even if it's not a natural thing for her. She also never seems to have a partner in her household, which means it's likely that she's usually taking care of Judo by herself (though there's some debate about whether Wendy is divorced, had a partner who passed, or whether she is single by choice and had Judo via a doner).
    Also, I love the Dirt episode because it's similar to something going on in my own life. My sister is doing baby-led weaning with her daughter, which basically means that the baby is given the same food that Mum and Dad are eating and is allowed to explore what bub likes and what they don't like. However, the challange is that if you as a grown-up show you don't like something, your baby will refuse to eat it because they assume it's bad (i.e. Judo refusing to get dirty because she knows Wendy doesn't like dirt). So my sister is having to fake enjoying certain foods so that her baby will try them and then decide whether or not they like it.

    I personally like Wendy and Judo, I also totally reject the idea that Wendy has a "thing" for Bandit. Also, I know this doesn't have a thing to do with the price of toast and Bovril, but I was like Wendy even as a kid, I've always been so fastidious and uptight, and imagine how weird I must have seemed when I was a kid, when you factor in that I happen to be gentleman { rather than a lady } , it probably seemed weirder.

    I love all of these episodes. I worked with kids for years and the Stories episode is exactly the narrative of kids being discouraged and learning to try again. I aspire to be as gentle and reassuring as Calypso.
    Also I feel for Judo and Wendy. As a black woman who has long hair, the expectation to keep it up and looking great all the time is exhausting. It is such an important part of our culture to take care of our hair. It really feels like an episode that directly says, "It is okay to let go of the expectations to look how others want you to look."

    You know, I didn't like Judo or Wendy at first either. Butterflies didn't shine the best light on the daughter and Mom's been kinda a stick in the mud (ha, pun) in most of the series.
    However, I recognize that Judo is an only child and isn't used to having a sibling- especially a younger one. Wendy is a bit harder and she really acts stuck up but I just truly think she's the normal neighbor. Geeze, how would you react if your neighbor mooned you once and yells at fairies and dances around with roller-skates on his hands?
    I perceived the Dirt episode and the issue with Judo and Wendy here more in line with certain hairstyles or haircare. Mainly Black hair. Cards on the table, I'm not Black, but I've known women who would take literal hours for hair care. So, Wendy and Judo being Chows very much make sense in that regard.

    30:30 I remember feeling abandoned for like a moment. I was like 6 or 7 me and my mom were in Walmart. In either the shampoo isle or the tooth brush isle and I was looking at something. I don't remember what. But I looked up and my mom was gone and I felt genuine panic, terror even. I called out "Mom." in my tiny quiet voice and I'm surprised she heard me. She called out, "I'm over here." and poked her head from around the corner of the isle. That was probably the most terrified I've ever been, until... I was at the park with my whole family. I have 4 younger siblings. Three of which are on the spectrum. Two of them wanted to go to a different section of the park about 150 yards away. My parents drove them down to that park. The other 2 stayed with me at the play equipment we had been at. The two with my parents Were 17 and 11 at the time. Both on the spectrum. And the two with me were 10 and 16 at the time. The 16 year old is on the spectrum. The 16 year old being one of my brothers. The 10 year old being one of my sisters. My 16 year old brother had wanted to stay. My mom told me to keep an eye on him. About 30 seconds after my parents drove off with my other 2 siblings, I looked up and didn't see my brother anywhere. I was in immediate panic mode because he wanders off a lot, he's easily distracted and he never tells anyone where he is going or what he is doing. I checked the bathroom first and he wasn't there. My mind then went to he got kid-napped. I was about to call my mom to see if he snuck into her car. Then if he wasn't with her call the police. But I didn't have to panic long. My parents drove back about 5 minutes later and he was in the car. But he gave me a fright and my mom made a point to him to always tell someone where he's going. That was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me.
