    good honest reveiw man! many sayes its so good for wrong use. I love that you do this topic on podcast use, get a røde ntg 3 or 5 and a external PC usb soundcard, if u are not out walking otuside then keep the zoom, its better for sampling,bands and music so the shotgun was never made for dialogs as we all can hear when trying it.

    The sides are one channel, the shotgun another. So the stereo channels split between the shotgun on one side, and the two sides as one side of the stereo. So it is two channel, not the three channels that would be required to have LR stereo on the sides, PLUS the OTF shotgun.

      Oh, that's a bummer. I watched this video trying to understand that exact problem. I'm disappointed in Zoom's manual, which does not explain this. Also wish it was explained better on the sites of the various dealers. I guess what I'd have to do for a quasi mid/size setup is double the "side" track in a DAW, invert polarity on one, and pan them left and right?

    Thanks for the great video. I'm looking at the H5, the capsule mics like the SSH-6 and considering whether it would be better to use a H5 and Rode NTG-1 instead for indoor interviews. I've been surprised by how many microphone / recorder reviews on TH-cam have really bad audio and when I first started watching this video I nearly clicked away after hearing the audio from your lav. I'm not an audio expert but I can't help thinking "why should I listen to what this person has to say about the audio quality of a device when their published content has bad audio?". I'm glad I stuck around :)

    What’s your opinion on using the ZOOM SSH-6 with the wss-6 specifically for voice-over / narration for home-studio?
    E.g., how does it compare to using, say, a Shure SM58 or PodMic (which may need a Cloudlifter / FETHEAD to reduce gain/hiss) plugged into the H6?

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think it serves that purpose excellently as long as your room you are recording in is treated. AKA put up a few blankets or sound proofing. I used mine during my quarantine for doing my two radio shows and my bosses both said my sound was the best of the whole team. I think being super cardioid helps block a lot of excess sound but you will still need to proof your room no matter what mic you use.

    Super helpful video, thanks for sharing.
    For clarity, in trying to record birdsongs from 30+ feet away, would it be worth it to get a shotgun setup or would this not make that much of a difference when compared to using an omnidirectional mic from this distance?

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In my opinion. A shotgun will always be the wisest suggestion for directional recording. For instance, ever had an Iphone and you record something silently, then listening to it back, you find your BREATH is in the audio and you hear yourself breathing like you ran a marathon? A shotgun is super directional in the way that it can help mitigate that by a LOT. Will it perfectly only get the sound of the bird and none of the ambient audio? No... BUT, it will help focus in the direction. Hope that makes sense.

    Hello there. What are the differences between Zoom SSH-6 and Zoom SGH-6?

    • @marnh5632
      @marnh5632 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The SGH-6 (ShotGunH-6) is a regular shotgun microphone, while the SSH-6 (StereoShotgunH-6) is a (mid-side) shotgun microphone with an additional bidirectional microphone recording sounds to the left and right of the microphone. With the SGH-6 you could for example record a sound source like an instrument and then add the desired amount of room acoustics to the recording. You can also turn the bidirectional mic completely off and just use it as a regular shotgun mic.

    I need to document/record noise that is produced by an HVAC (Air Conditioner) while it is running from about 8-10 ft away. I tried to record the noise with my phone, but the recording is not clear and the recording does not sound like when you hear the noise in person. Should a mic be used with this recorder to capture the noise? If yes, which mic is recommended? Perhaps a (directional) boom mic? I might use the Zoom H6 recorder.
    I might try using the Zoom SSH-6 Stereo Shotgun Microphone Capsule with Hairy Windscreen with it. I thought about the Rode NTG5, but that is a bit out of the budget that I want to spend.

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you got the right idea as long as you mount it to a boom and get it closer to the HVAC. The dead-cat will be a must in that situation as well. Good luck!

    What capsule would you use to record a concert? I have the F1 with mono shotgun SGH-6 and the XYH-5.

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats a really good question. would wonder do you want the ambience of the crowd cheering or would you want to cut that out? If You want more of the music itself I would suggest the Shotgun. If you want the ambience of the crowd cheering I would go for a wide stereo channel module. Just make sure you get the microphone up away from people as much as possible so you arent getting people talking directly in front of it. I personally set my microphone up with the shotgun on a tripod that can go up about 15 feet and be well above the heads of the audience. That way I dont have a person directly in front of it talking about what they are drinking. LOL!

      I am looking to get this exact combo (F1 + SGH-6 + XYH-5) for filmmaking on a budget (SFX/ambient sounds/voiceovers/dialogue).
      Is this a good option or should I go for a do it all option like the H4n Pro or the more budget option H1n?
      I am not an audio person and would love to your thoughts. Thanks!

  • @miraclewalkerproductions

    Thanks this video helped me decide. I have an H6 and am an emerging indie filmmaker looking for a mic to use outside for Foley and dialogue recording.
    I also am starting a vlog.
    Question: how do you connect the H6 to the computer to record? Is it through a cable?

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! OK! Just plug the h6 into the computer via the USB and set it as the device in your audio software that you want to use as your input output device. Then you plug in the USB the h6 should ask you if you want to use it as an audio device and you just say yes to it. :0)

    Hey Legacy, nice video but i don't know why my H6 is very low. I tried that with many mics but no show

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by low? Do you have the switches in the center flipped on to add the PAD? That will mess up a lot of your audio.

    • @threethroneproductions5498
      @threethroneproductions5498 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LegacyStudio Hi, thanks for replying. When the PAD is turned on, the volume is louder and the input is more sensitive. When turned off the Volume is very low. I have tried different mics and still same results. The mic am using now is the Neewer NW-410.

    Is this a microphone I could use to film a work presentation i.e. (camera, H6 with SSH-6 shotgun mic) will be setup all together and I will be at the back of a room. The speaker will have his own mic going through speakers.

    • @LegacyStudio
      @LegacyStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You will have a lot of echo and room noise if your going to record audio from the back of the room. The better thing to do would be to take your H6 and SSH and put it up front recording separately from your camera pointed at one of the speakers. Then sync your audio in post with your video. This microphone and recorder are a great choice for that purpose. BUT they have to be used the right way to get the best effect. So move the microphone and recorder to the front of the room, record from the back of the room with your camera, and your gold.

      Ok, I have watched my video all the way though, I never said what you "QUOTED" from my video. So please prove where I said that or remove your comment. As a broadcaster and a reporter it is very disrespectful and technically ILLEGAL to quote me in a statement I never said. Plus the H6 is the product I have suggested for other podcasters since I have owned it for the last 5 years.
