I really liked this. A little history, geography, mythology, and a beautiful presentation of pieces made with coral. Thank you. Blessings.

With the state of coral reefs around the world I don't believe in taking it from the ocean and using it for anything

Hi Carol. We understand your concern. The products we sell are purchased through licensed vendors who purchase and harvest legal coral.

Most coral you can buy (afford) is dyed and stabilized . If you rub it with a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover and the color comes off on the cotton it is dyed. Fire Mountain will tell you what you are getting but many small dealers won't.

You're very right, Jeannine. The red coral we offer is bamboo coral that has been dyed.

@@FireMountainGems Thank you normal stores cant help. as of the coral ban its no longer a routine product as none can be brought in now unless one is wearing it as jewellery but the trees are impossible to bring in or take out of the states legally. i appreciate your reply

Here in fla coral is bleaching and dying due to climate change, I think I would prefer to buy some of Fire Mountains beautiful selections of stones-semi precious and precious, since they are not important to habitat legal or not.

Lovely....but how sustainable is it ? Aren't we harvesting it into extinction? The reefs are being destroyed each year by man's "harvesting ".....can we really , in good conscience, use or buy this gem?
