Brittany, many thanks for sharing your story about your Dad. I am a drummer, since I was 15 years old. I have a great story to share with you. I was a Sheriff for 28 years. One day on patrol, I received a complaint on my beat about a loud band. When I arrived at the house in question, I was met with a 5 member band, who were playing all the old classics. The band had this excellent girl singer. The age of the band members ranged around 16 to 18 years of age. I don’t know how this happened, but I asked the girl singer if I could sit in on a few songs. All of them were blown away and the first song we played was Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. Before I knew it, there were about 25 kids watching us play. The guy who had complained about the loud music, went ballistic on me when he saw me playing with the band. It was one of the highlights of my Police career. 👍👍👍👍

My wife and her mom saw BJ Thomas at the Crazy Horse in Santa Ana, Ca. My wife's mom was handicapped and sitting off to the side of the stage. After the concert was done, he came up to her and asked her if she enjoyed the concert. She was tongue tied and flustered...but enjoyed it all. Speaks volumes about what type of person BJ was. Just the band, the man, and his talent. We had stage-side seats, and I sat with my fingertips on the edge of the stage for 2 hours. He was so close, I could see the teeny stitches in the hem of his trousers (of his beautifully cut gray Italian double-breasted suit). Fil,
Thanks for recognizing the tremendous talent of this truly great gentleman.
When my daughter got sick, she asked me to sing Raindrops to her in the hospital emergency room.
I was a singer in my youth but had crippling stage fright and never pursued music.
Today I hit the karaoke places without fear and am having a great time.
All thanks to my daughter and BJ Thomas.

If Fil was going to do an analysis concentrating on vocal ability why not B.J. Thomas? I am going to watch for this mic technique in other videos, with other singers. B.J.'s death is sad. As a fan I grieve. I will say that I do get a kind of closure when Fil features these artists that pass. What else can we do but celebrate the music? B.J. was from Houston TX.Thanks Fil. Oh,new term. Dulcet tone. adjective. pleasant to the ear; melodious: the dulcet tones of the cello. pleasant or agreeable to the eye or the feelings; soothing. Archaic.

BJ had the perfect voice for Raindrops. A lot of other singers have covered the song but BJ had that wonderful warm luscious tone that gave the song a beautiful sense of sentimentality and reflection that no one else could duplicate. Even several decades later J was still able to sing it with aplomb. Thank you to Fil for his gracious appreciation of a classic performer.

He kept his amazing voice to the very end. His vibrato never began to lag with age and his falsetto was excellent as heard in a relatively recent performance of “Don’t Worry Baby”.

I grew up hearing him on the radio and was gratified to hear him do the theme song to "Growing Pains". Hubby and I both agreed that he was an exceptional singer. We were lucky enough to have seen him 3 times; and he interacted with us somewhat. I stood up and clapped as soon as he started singing "Momma". He looked at me- smiled and said "Thank You for that, I like this one too". He interacted with the audience every time we saw him. Instead of the stand-in-one-place-and-never-smiling that some singers/bands do. He will be greatly missed. And thank you Fil for this.
