  • Dusted off the RadioShack metal detector that was gathering dust in the corner. After relearning how to tune it, took it on a quick trip coin shoot. Found a penny and other things. Might have to try it out again in the next few.
For others that may have one, provided more details on how I tuned the detector for the quick trip.

I have the model 3001 since I was a teen, and still works. It's basically the same without the red button. Discrimination knob says "ferrous/non-ferrous" on my model. I basically leave it on non-ferrous and have the meter between 2-3. When an object is found the tone stops.

Cool hunt Zeke. I had a radio shack machine just like that when I was a yonker. Actually found several coins with it. They will still find treasure. Love the fact that ur using vintage or classic machines , like ur Fisher. Still a great machine. Keep the hunts coming , and a Happy New Year to u.

Thanks JD Henry! Great knowing these old detectors still can find a coin or two. Happy New Year!

I always wondered how the coil could have an aluminum shaft go all way down by coil and work nothing modern has metal anywhere near the coil ( I had one just like this one in 1988 when I was ten years old )

Not sure why it does not either. Maybe the way the coils are oriented.

Actually, the detector seems to be "reversed", as mine was. I had the RadioShack Micronta 3000, purchased in the early 1970's and the machine was silent until the coil was swung over a metal object, at which point it sounded.l.. unfortunately, at some point, I'm not certain what or why, but it did what the one in this video did, and began sounding continuously UNLESS the coil was over metal. At that point, it became a lot less accurate, and I discarded it. Recently I bought two RadioShack Micronta 3000s and one has that reversed sound and the other does not. We shall see how they behave, once the weather gets warmer and I can get out and hunt again.
I also swing two Bounty Hunter Tracker IVs (one with large coil, one with tiny 'sniper' coil) and a MineLab Xterra. I have also used a Tesoro Silver Sabre

Thanks for the info. The one I use go silent and the meter goes to the right on good targets and some trash targets as well. I check a target anytime it goes silent.

Just picked up a ride shack detector like yours for $6.98 at goodwill store it seems to work fine adjusted it and it scanned penny’s and small paper clips , what does the red button on the handle do ?

Awesome! The red button is used for tuning the radio. See video... th-cam.com/video/1zY2r5BIsis/w-d-xo.html
