Hello, please excuse my noobiness to pickleball. I'm looking for clarification. The rally beginning at 12:10 and ending at 12:25 shows both players on the near team repeatedly stepping into the 7 foot zone when contacting the ball. Is this legal? Also, the player in red ends the rally after stepping into and through the 7 foot zone striking the ball back at a height which appears to be lower than the bottom of the net. Wouldn't the ball need to be returned higher than the net to be legal?
+Ron Butler You can step in the 7 foot zone (called the kitchen) whenever the ball bounces in that area. As for the winning shot, the guy in the red hit the ball around the net and onto the other team's side. It is ok to do this. The ball does not have to go over the net if hit around on the outside like that.
The immature demographic of youtube never fails to disappoint me. This game is hard to learn, hard to play well, easily as aerobic as tennis and nearly as skill based as ping pong. Show some respect for those that can do what you can't.
warriordrum Completely agree. My only experience with the sport was back in high school gym class. I thought it would be lame but it turned out to be very fun and I can confirm it's definitely more challenging and physically demanding than it appears. I would definitely play pickleball more given the opportunity
Warriordrum, completely disagree - several tennis pro players at the very bottom ranks have tried pickleball against top ranked pickleball players, they picked it up extremely quickly and in some cases won matches after their first attempt at it within an hour. No top pickleball player has ever taken a match from a pro tennis player ranked on ATP 100. PingPong is in a whole class of it's own - probably the hardest racket/paddle sport in existence and one of the longest and hardest learning curves to become pro. To say pickleball is nearly as skill based as ping pong is beyond a lie. Sounds like something Trump would say at a news conference.
Anyone saying they can't play this lacks basic hand eye coordination and is most likely out of shape. Given some basic athletic ability most people could have a decent game of pickle ball right away which is a sign that the sport is easy to pickup. Give any racquet sport athlete a shot at this and I have no doubt they could be competitive at their local pickleball club.
So this is the "sport" they replaced our hockey rink with in my town.. They have tennis courts for this crap and it's obviously for older people.. It's like lazy tennis.. Oh my gosh and pickleball - PICKLEBALL!? How can anyone take this seriously?!

I like that the whole court is not blue.
