This video was one of the most artistically focused I've ever done. The structure was also far more difficult than it might seem to anyone who hasn't seen Karekano (episode 4)
I hope you like it!!! Hope you are doing well!! I uploaded a vid on Hiding in Private today as well!

I love how well spoken you are in your videos its easy to see how much time and effort you put in to your videos. To even comment on high effort videos and low effort videos and the act of art and opinions it self while also putting your self under a microscope in an artistic way was very interesting. Not only that but to also try to put in your own words your meaning of love and passion and romance while being passionate in your own videos. Love your videos and wish you the best

Maison ikkoku is super fucking good. The one other thing people compare it to is kimagure orange road although ive been more into this show which isnt neccesarily romance as it is a perversion miss machiko sensei. Though after rewatching chobits as an adult versus when i was like 9 or 11 i have much better understanding of its themes. It made me want to rewatch DearS. On top of that i remember mixing up maburaho and mahoraba a lot as a kid back in the days where you watched an on youtube in three parts. I dont necessarily support watching shit on youtube like that but i definitely support not supporting crunchy roll or funimation for their shitty business tactics. So i say this with as much caution and restraint as you can
Pirate away especially if its old stuff you cant find anymore. Trapped on dvds you cant find the whole set for or are too expensive such as the case of maison ikkoku getting 8 box sets and people trying to sell them for 1000s of dollars.

Having Yukino's anxiety about confessing to Arima reframed as the struggle of creating things (plus the poetic summary of what makes romance anime work, especially Kate Kano) really struck me.
Thanks for making this video. I loved how you framed things using Kare Kano's style, music, and clips -- super cool to see an anime I haven't heard talked about much used in that way.

This video helped put something into perspective for me in regards to what I want out of my own romances in life. I live for my own passions and at times become completely engrossed in them. If I want to really feel connected to someone, I hope they have a passion like that as well, and I hope that we can share those passions together and become lost in the love we hold for them together, as well as the attachment we nurture for one another.

I remember my first "romance" anime being School Rumble. It holds a special place in my heart. It was the first show that introduced me to shows that aren't just battle Shonens. I went back to watch it recently and I still enjoy it a lot to this day (although nostalgia may be a heavy factor). Sadly the ending was kinda bittersweet and wasn't what I hoped for, but the journey was amazing.

  • @pocenha

I'm happy people still remember KareKano. It deserves more love. It deserves a remake and full animated ending.
One of my biggest griepes with romance anime is that it normally never gets past the first kiss or love confession, much less Building a life together. Karekano startes gets together fast and their relationship evolves at a natural pace.
And itsso crafty with its own characters. Masami Tsuda is such a sensible author, she makes fun stories but its also delicate with the small dramas teeanagers have to face. And the anime os made by old Gainax, that lends such energy and beautiful art to the anime. It's Hideaki Anno forgoten master piece.
The only way I can describe it is like falling in love yourself.

On the waiting thing. I find myself torn there because on one hand I want to see the couple together but on the other hand it can be very fun to see the process like you said.
My personal boundry is one season. If there is no established reason for why has nothing has happend. Is there anything external keeping them appart (as long as it makes sense)? Do they have internal problems that seem to keep them appart (as long as it is coherent)? Has there been meaningfull progress? If not, then why are they not together after 4-5 hours of show?
I personally can only follow a status quo so long until I get bored and want it to change. Especially if it is not a comedy.
Offen the problem is not that they do not get together. It's that the story is static.

Hi, I also fell into the romance genre a few months ago and Im knee deep-no way out. Since my weeb inception, the romance genre was just like any other anime to me. I have watched a lot of shounen targeted anime before and they definitely hit the shounen demographic with the character models, self insert protagonists, harems, along with the good types of relationships characters have, may be it romantically or platonically.
Only when I got older and dwelved further into seinen romance dd I find "true romance". Romance not necessarily about love or the path to confessing or marriage, but the characters and their which stood in the middle making or breaking a series.
(Maybe im more of talking about seinen here) A romance could talk about social disparity, childhood trauma, racism, nequality, anxiety, depression, and many other touchy and darker subjects like suiced and rape but still hold maturity to tackle them properly and either resolve it naturally based on the direction of the story or not necessarly resolve but dea with it-living with trauma or disorder and overcoming the challenges it brings.
Now have the simple or complex yet convoluted, realistic and sometimes absurd settings, character backgorunds, relationships and character writing mix with more realism, proper writing and maturity and boom you get what I deem as true romance - not to get to a point in a relationship but the relationship that gets to a point. Neither stagnant at one pace to add more pages and frames to a series and paced to a point where the destination becomes the goal wich devalues the romance and leaves (me)viewers incomplete or unsatisfied because the series ended with the confession or proposal but does not properly close out the charcters.
The romance genre has given me enough fluff to not need any affection from anyone else, enough romantic shenanigans enough for a person not to seek more but at the same time make me internally check my values, morals and the way I live at times. If it hasent come across yet, I lover omance anime and manga.
P.S. Maybe im contradicting myself somewhere but its 3am gimme soke wiggle room and i thibk you get what Im sayaing. BTW this is my thoughts after reading up and finishing Asper Girl, the manga that made me think about how things work and my realities - just a whole perspective check. Highly reccomend it.

However, the topics that you covered and your delivery still gave it the classic DIY feeling that most TH-cam videos have. Great video!

I found this video randomly suggested to me. I was convinced to watch it because it showed one of my favorite romance anime. This was honestly such a fun, creative way to edit a video.☺💕 Makes want to rewatch His and Hers Circumstances all over again. I honestly haven't watch too many newer romance anime, but I often fo back go ones I have watched back in the day (e.g. Clannad, Fruits Basket, Chobits, Paradise Kiss, Say I Love You, Kamisama Kiss, Blue Spring Ride, and so many more).
In response to romance found in anime, what I love about this genre is that it is slower pace. It has you immerse into the character's feelings. Whether that be them worrying about what partner will think of them, the embarrassment of exposing different sides of a character, the shyness when doing subtle affection to one another, and the relief when both characters feel the same. It's such a wonderful ride. I really loved your perspective on this topic. I think I'll stick around to see more of your videos. I'm glad I found this video. 💚💚💚

Came here from KorewaEden and I think I remember you being on rant cafe a couple times in the past.
When I was first got into anime at the age of 14, I was first introduced to anime through death note and sao. I remember liking those shows but I really look back at those years and I think of how I discovered romance anime and how much I enjoyed them compared to the others I listed. I watched so many and a lot of them became my favorites such as TWGOK, SNAFU, Maid Sama, and Golden Time. Like you said in your video I have trouble describing my feelings on these shows but tbh, I just like how they make me feel and seeing the progress with these characters living their every day lives is really enjoyable. I never really had anyone to talk about these anime with because most of my friends watch shonen and other genres. I usually just kept it to myself but regardless of that they are really regarded as my favorite anime. I have to say that this video hits really hard because I kinda see myself on how you describe yourself. I know that’s it hard and it’s complicated but we just gotta keep moving forward my guy and good things will follow eventually. Well, I’ve been rambling this whole time but this video was great and hope to see more in the future!

I love how stylised this video was. I haven't watched a lot of your stuff lately but this video reminded me of why I love your content so much because it kinda feels like I'm listening to myself when you share some of your thoughts on your creative process and how you view the medium of romance in anime even though I don't create anything myself. Romance anime has always been there for me during dark times in my life when I've had no one to talk to or no one to gain comfort from. Without it I think I'd be in a much darker place than I am currently and I'm grateful for that. Thanks for always making vids that entertain and that make me think deeper about myself

That only applies to many contemporary romantic comedies than the romance genre as a whole. Many romcom series do linger in the friendzone for a long time before making any progress. That's not to discredit your claim, because most people misunderstand the fact that those series are in the second category of romance anime you mentioned. Romantic Comedy is the most prevalent subgenre of romance anime/manga at the moment and the focus is the comedy, the romance is mostly a back drop. Though many people, especially those new to the medium, are only familiar with modern romcoms and get frustrated when no progress is being made despite that being not being that subgenre's focal point.
That being said, that doesn't exempt it from the criticism it gets. Series (especially romcom manga) like Sono-bisque, Takagi, and Komi-san take their sweet time making any actual romance progress, all of which have 100+ chapters, save for sono-bisque. It can understandably get draining for long time fans.

This is very high effort. I agree with the decision to repeat visuals and I like your cadence.
Maybe romance anime is like Power Rangers, it is for an audience that likes it mainly as a consequence of age, and I feel strongly that you can age out of a lot of anime. The anime I watched as a 14 year old just isn't going to be enjoyed the same a decade later.

This really feels like you see the thought patterns of one’s brain as the references whether literal dialogue, shots accompanying emotions, and various animes effortlessly spliced in all fall perfectly into place. I really like how you present your ideas and allow your discussions about art to mix with what they personally mean to you and what's been going on in your life. It drew me to this channel and has kept me here. Still, I don't watch every video you put out. Honestly... I'm not that interested in anime.
Still, occasionally you'll discuss something I'm interested in or, in this case, something I'm not. But I was curious why you're interested. I'm really glad I clicked! Your editing and writing choices were incredibly clever and helped me actually feel, well, like I want to watch a romance anime. For the triumph, for the self-doubting protagonist who finally learns to believe in themselves, and for the same reason I watch anything I like: it sparks joy.
I'm gonna recommend this video to a couple friends! I think they'll like it too.

Bizzare how author implies he's a failure after having multiple relationships. As someone who failed to get even one relationship in highschool and sometime, this world of romance anime seems so beautiful and yet this genre represents something so completely distant from my reality that it just a reminder of i must be not really human or fundamentally broken in a way which is hard to understand.
Just the fact that author had relatioships already puts him way above those broken(if not subhuman) losers who failed to experience this at all. Whatever trouble author may have, he's already spared from being a empty shell that can only impersonate normal human things and can only pretend and lie that it deserves to be alive at all. I'm really glad author at least avoided this fate. Sorry for venting, i guess. Couldn't help it.

The whole thing of the video where you as yourself flowing in your thought's, i don't remember when i saw something like this

I may not have watched the anime that this episode was almost certainly based on, but damn was this a great video. The moment I realized that you were trying to pull us into the alure of an anime by walking us through the plot of one was amazing. I can't know for certain on whether or not what was said during this episode was a genuine struggle that you chose to pull on to better portray the idea behind romance anime or if was somewhat made up in order to pull in alure in a unique way. Regardless of which it was I have to say don't be afraid to be more confident in yourself. If you a release a video and it doesn't do as well as the last then don't let that tear you up. Every video I watch of yours have been amazing and while I don't sit there genuinely awaiting each and every video I can say with certainty that I'm happy every time I see a new video of yours. If a video you make is even half as good as this one then I'd enjoy it nonetheless. Keep up the good work man, with each new video you slowly solidify yourself more and more as one of my all time favorite youtubers!

Damn this video made me realize something… For the longest time I haven’t been watching as much as anime like I did before, I always assumed it was because I’ve “grown up” and now started to watch other things like western tv series and kdramas, but as I watched this video I just realized that the “issue” is that they don’t make the type of anime I like anymore. Nowdays it’s all shounen action or shounen “romance” :c Fruits basket is an exception but then again that was a remake.
I wish they made more shoujo romances again, I feel like we’re not lacking in good shoujo mangas that could get adapted (Man how did we never get an adaptation of Last Game, Hirunaka no Ryuusei ecc ecc)

Sometime I forget romance is like oxygen for me. I had a crush on the same person from 2nd to 10th grade in which i would walk around my room blushing while playing out situation where im talking to her so my brain is having a hard time trying to develop that feeling with anyone else. Kinda makes me feel like I'm drowning. Have I just not found the one or am I subconsciously not interested in finding someone else because I bound my loyalty to that one person.

I'm going to be honest, I'm sick of romance manga. I felt like I've seen all of the good romance animes years ago, and of course there are new ones, but I've seen those too. So I've been focusing on just looking for good manga that fits what I want. The problem, and why I've started growing tired of this, is because I spend more time looking for a good manga than actually reading it.
Listen, I love romance in stories. If it has romance in it it gets easy brownie points from me. I'd prefer it to be good romance and not shoe-horned in, but what can I say, I just like the genre in general. If I have a choice, I'll look for something romantically focused over other stuff. Not to say that I don't watch or read other types of stores, because some of my favorite have little to no romance in them, but it is a strong preference.
during certain times, when I was in the mood for a manga, I'd go searching them up. And as I made it clear, I'd specify that I'd want romance. It could be slow and steady or full of action, I'm not strict in that regard. But I can't find almost any. Now, HiP says that the West don't like romance anime, more or less, because it takes too long for the relationship to grow as opposed to immediate hookups. But that's not true-- well, as far as the insinuation that romance anime/manga don't do that. Many of them _(no one would know the ratio)_ start either with a strong relationship or build it up quickly, compared to the slow build-ups. I prefer slower burns, but I'll take either.
So I search for romance manga, wade through search results, find some that look somewhat interest and try reading them. Too many of the have romance so subtle that I feel like I either blinked and missed it or that it only really existed on a single page and they felt justified in placing a romance tag on it. Maybe it does have some, but it takes so long to get to even the start that you forget that was even listed as a genre.
I also like to search for recommendations on places like reddit; whatever forum has a discussion about this stuff. The problem is that the people recommending series don't know anything. A lot of the time it's the most basic, most commonly read stuff. It's like someone who lives on anime, watching it nonstop, asking people, "hey, ran out of shows to watch, got any suggestions?", before half the comments saying, "oh, have you seen FMA?", gee, I wonder.
You get those, but also the ones that don't even listen to the one asking. They'll go, "I want a romance manga where MC does this, and the story has that, got any suggestions?" And an annoyingly comment post will list something that has nothing to do with any of that, "how about XXXXX? There is little to no romance, well it has almost literally no romance, but it's still good", as though that matters. Recommending things that don't have a specific genre when that is the sole thing they are looking for... Or you get something that is essentially the same thing as what I said at the start of the paragraph, where you get sent a manga to read, but at no point does the romantic aspect actually appear. Almost as though they want to recommend something just for the sake of it.
Basically, it's hard to find a romance manga with good romance. No matter how long I spend looking for it, I get something that arguably has none, technically has some but it's a subtle undertone at most, has a somewhat more substantial amount of romance but it's a harem so most of the time is spent developing relationships with many characters despite it being very obvious that none of them will go anywhere, it's a rom-com, etc. Romantic comedies aren't bad, I mean, that's most of them. If you see a manga with a romance tag on it you best believe it has comedy on it, because it must be too hard to right a genuinely good romance without relying on jokes-- that might be too unfair to say I admit.
But it all comes down to me wanting a romance with a good relationship. It can have other things that are just as prominent at times, but I find it bizarre to list "romance anime" when the romance is but a simple tool to push the comedy. In that case is the "romance" even what you say it is? It's almost like it isn't even there. Then you have some other people saying that romance in anime or manga has to be ultra pure all the time-- so nothing more than blushing when they look at each other, even if they were dating for years; how fun.
This is a long rant just saying that I'm tired of looking for even basic romance when most of it, when it comes to manga, is either not actually romance or is not good romance at all. Maybe it's almost there, but it also looks terrible visually. Not to harp of that aspect, I try to not care about that, but when it's off-putting to simply look at it, then that's a problem. I used to like romance anime/manga, but that was back when I didn't watch any, so I had the entire pool of content made up to that point. I'm sure that there are some good ones that I've yet to see, but trust me, they must be really hidden or something. A couple years ago I got into reading manga. I watched anime for a long time up until then and had long since ran out of stuff to watch, but it never occurred to me to just read the mangas as well. It reminded me of when I first got into anime. There was just so much to read and I quickly found a few that I really liked. The problem was that after I read just a couple of these mangas I realized that the well had ran dry way faster than I thought. Again, romance manga specifically, that's what I want, I'm not looking for other stuff, just romance. But most of it isn't romance or it's bad romance and I say that as someone who is trying so hard to be lenient on these stories.
It's hard to shorten a rant like this because I want to get across how frustrating it is to want a thing like this, and despite the medium supposedly being full of it, I can't find almost anything worth the time. the world of romantically based manga sounds like an ocean of content, but it's surprisingly thin and shallow. There are a few things here and there, but that's it. I'd ask for a recommendation, but it'll be one of the same 3 that we've all seen, it will be something well divorced for the genre itself, or the romance will take a backseat to every other genre on the table. That's my problem with romance manga.

Quite a spectacular video I must say the back and forth In particular i enjoyed very much and simply the acknowledgment of these many ideas is in itself quite the beauty though I will say the title was a bit misleading though I suppose what human being isn't! 😅 anyway regardless of that fact I don't expect a reply however neither do I feel it requires one who am I writing for then? well I'd say it's at least more than one person after all the internet allows for much more than simply talking to a singular individual after all you could just be a random person who this message isnt designed for but in the first place it was designed for everyone to read it'd really would be a shame for me to not to abuse the power that it offers well anyhow I suppose I'll return from where I originated from for now or you could reread this message wouldn't that be something!
