Video: “one quarter of the US population don’t even have a retirement account”. In the US, a retirement account (401k, 503c etc) are employer tax advantaged accounts. When I looked up the fraction of the US population under 18, and thus mostly ineligible, the answer was 24%. If true that “only” a quarter of the US population doesn’t have a retirement account, then this would be an extremely high compliance rate - it would Mean almost all people in the US 18 and above had one. I know from other channels that enrollment is nowhere near that high. The problem is that many of the statistics are presented here with no context, and at face value are just wrong (eg that only 25% of Americans don’t have a retirement account). All I know is that I cannot really take the information presented literally, it is t clear what the actual base is.
The thing is that these numbers are average…they don’t come close to what you would consider normal. The wealth level in the US is fairly squeezed towards the rich.
@@insiderbeta It isn't a case of average vs median, where the average gets skewed. It is that the stats presented, if interpreted literally, are wrong. But we don't know what "cuts" to the data you actually made, so we are not actually left any better informed watching this video.
