Vans employee here!!! In 2019 we actually had deconstructed models of the Duracap! It’s been around for quite awhile! The old cabs were not as stiff around the ankle and they even increased the tread depth by 6 mm for a longer lasting sole. So much went into the redesign and it shows. Thanks for reviewing vans! I have so many really underrated vans shoes I’d love for you guys to cut! You should hit me up for more details!!!
I had a pair of Cab 6s in college in 1999. Is that what that was named after- its thickness? Some of the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned and that includes new balance 991s. 👍🏼
Really enjoy these skate reviews. As a skater, I’m stoked that you guys are adding it in. I’ve watched other reviews and I really like how you cut it in half. Don’t see that too often. I would maybe suggest chatting with someone at a skate shop about features on the shoe before the video. They may have some good insights you might want to include. Anyways, keep it up! This is great
Not hating, but I smiled a little when you said you didn't know what the duracap was on a pair of vans. Skaters who have ever owned a pair of vans with duracap know exactly what it is because they have skated their shoe down to that rubber layer underneath the suede.
The soles won't last long enough to expose that I don't waste money on skate shoes because the soles never last more than a few months this has always been a problem since the 90s with skate shoes
@@thisoldboy4111Yea vans have a bunch of terms that no one really knows what they mean unless you really look for it on forums or actually destroy the shoe.
@@thisoldboy4111 skateboarding as a sport ruins shoes. You are wrapping and kicking your foot into silicone carbide heavy-grit sandpaper. The shoes and the duracap are purposefully designed with this in mind.
My fav set up is a pair of half cabs, full laced, with a double heel lock lacing through the top tongue tag. Honestly nuts how much heel support you can get out of half cabs with a little mod like lowering the heel height with fitted insoles. ive pretty much had a pair since i was 22, when it just works it works.
I like seeing Rose Anvil ads, the bets, coasters, and laces are my favorites. I bought the blue, red, yellow, and tan laces and they are great in person. First time was hard to put in my Jordan 1 highs, but then I used tweezers to push it through/widen the lace holes slightly, and it worked great.
if you are a skater on a tite budget, get these. i’ve see them last 2-3 times longer than more expensive skate shoes. the style, protection, skate-ability, and history make it the all time classic
I always wanted a pair of Half Cabs, so I bought myself a pair some years back (I ordered them online), and I had to return them almost immediately. They could not take my big & wide feet, and I'm a size 13. Every time I see them out in the wild, I get so jealous. Love to see these videos from you guys! Please keep it up.
As a skater I'm a huge fan of this series guys! Definitely want to see more skate shoes on the channel. Some suggestions of shoes: - Gillette globe shoes - Warsaw chapter mids (Jamie Thomas's new shoe brand)
Cab was on the The Nine Club and clarified that Tony Hawk and Kevin Staab developed the “half cab” trick after he did the full, but they kept his name on it rather than changing it.
Picked up some caballero Half Cabs/ Vans at Ross for $35, and some black Half Cabs MTEs same price last month no BS this is where i hunt for vans, i have over 20 different pairs / styles
These skate reviews are amazing!!! I only wear skate shoes since I was a kid for everything. I still skate and need a shoes to work in and if I get a few minutes to skate in. Please keep these videos coming.
Ngl I'm not a skater but I love driving manual and riding motorcycles in vans (sorry ATGATT guys). I used to keep a pair in all my WRX's, helped a lot with clutch control/feel when I first started driving and having the stiff heel and floppy toe box is great for the shift lever on bikes.
Half Cabs are definitely not broken in right away. I’d say they’re actually on the dangerous side to skate out of the box. But once they are broken in I’d say they’re hands down the best shoe in skating under $100. I personally hate the feeling of your heel feeling like it’s prone to exiting your shoe. To bring up a shoe that remedied that. The Glode Chet 4. Anyone who has skated that shoe knows it’s as bulky as the D3’s.. in other words a work boot. In the late 90’s you had to wear the Etnies Vallely, Reynolds 1, Muska 901 if you wanted durability. Ultimately I’d say the Reynolds 2, Accel, Koston, Cannon’s reigned supreme for what the future would be for durable skate shoes and board feel in a cupsole. So to have a Vulc that keeps your heels in the shoe and offers the feeling those shoes did in the late 90’s early 00’s. But without the actual bulk. I’d say it blends past, present, and future perfectly and I hope other brands are paying attention. I know Adidas and NB are basically there, and as much as I love and have supported both companies. I’d love to see an actual skater owned company nail it. I think Etnies is right there with the Joslin’s. Maybe a Joslin mid that’s Half Cab height?
i have some '92 skate halfcabs, they're all suede and the old panel layout. also seems to be thicker, higher quality suede. they were super stiff and uncomfortably tight in the forefoot, took forever to break them in. i've had them for maybe 1.5 years. they're more comfortable now, but i only wear them casually i don't skate in them. i'm sure they'd be nice, i just don't want to shred them yet.
Half Cab Pro is the GOAT of skateboarding shoes, period. Seems like there is actually a difference in this NEW pro version compared to the OLD Pro version with that heel foam package, because the previous pro version had open cell foam. The old pro version foam does eventually breakdown and become floppy making the lining rip away from the foam and move around when skateboarding which eventually tears into a hole at the heel. The more rigid foam on the revamped model shown in the video would probably make it more resistant to that happening with the heel lining. So I guess there are now 3 half cab models they make at different price points or they will eliminate the pro version for this skate pro version?: the other version is the mall store version -classic which has none of these features shown and a crap sock liner., So I will be going to nordstrom rack to buy a lifetime supply of the old pro version at a discount if this version is going to replace them.
My most skated shoe for twenty plus years but pro insoles not being glued in make the shoe fault faster on all models, the pro insole is also not designed for the the heel cup of any of the shoes being it’s 5 times the heel thickness of their standard so your foot will often jump out or be set in awkward point in the shoe where your heel gets cut. Best thing to do is heat the original or take the pro sole out and get footprint insoles, their custom mold is like fourty bucks
The way they make they half cab now is really a good shoe that should not be messed with further. They are as perfect as you could possibly make a shoe of this type. Comfort is out of this world snug, solid and soft as a cloud all while feeling like you are skating barefoot and the rubber on the sole is some kind of witchcraft rubber. I've never seen a sole wear so slow. ive had these shoes for two months skating in them at least an hour after work and sometimes a total of 10 to 15 hours on the weekend with NO noticeable wear on the sole. Anyway these are my first Vans and I will never wear anything else anymore.
would LOVE to see ya get a pair of TCX motorcycle boots/sneakers. i bet alot of us riders would. the TCX Street are the most common. just putting it out there. :)
Yes I’d LOVE to see motorcycle boots cut apart, specifically the high top shoe ones, to see if they are really protective and which ones are the best. There’s a bunch of “motorcycle” shoes that are only marginally better than a pair of cheap normal boots.
Love these shoes! Unfortunately I don't wear them or skate them much cause they don't quite fit my wide feet, however I can attest to their quality! Solid and comfortable for skateboarding or casual use.
Great video! They are appreciated. One thing that I'd like for you to occasionally incorporate is some street/freestyle/park BMX information. There are a lot of BMX'ers that use skate shoes (Vans were my go-to in freestyle/racing before people went to clips for racing). I feel that adding BMX info wouldn't take up too much run-time, and would add value and views to these.
…in addition not to forget! Supra SkyTop Chad Muska!! Had them all…it’s also an amazing shoe, the OG’s had a lot of innovations…were super great in design, comfort and style…a little less so on durability and price…but what a classic, belongs up your review list as well…!!? Lastly, a historical review and comparison of early nineties skate shoes (and where did those go?) would definitely need to include (vintage?) ‘Airwalks’ (all the mofo models they released 🤔😱👻)… Sounds like, enough input for skate shoe content for upcoming years…keep m coming!
You should do Es. Personally that’s what I like to skate. They are not vulcanized but they have a thinner cupsole on the accelerometer slims. They also have a plastic cap on the flick side under the suede that keeps them From busting through. If you shoe goo the laces from the jump they last a while.
I’m not even a skater by any means. Can’t skate to save my life. But I probably buy 3-4 pairs of Vans a year because they’re just a Cali staple in my streetwear mood. And I strictly stick to the classics. I’ll leave those Knu Skools to GenZ lol. Really glad Vans have kept their simple designs since the 60’s and simply improved on it over the decades. Along with Chucks, Vans classics are a timeless look that’ll never die!
You should add a new test to your videos. COF coefficient of friction. Pretty easy to do and it'll show whether these outsole are actually different from each other.
Splay just came out with some barefoot skate shoes, would love to see them cut up and reviewed. Would also generally love to see Bohempia since some of thise look nice, not sure if they would be skateable though since they're hemp canvas and rubber only as far as I know.
I’ve been wearing half cabs for my whole life, and always wanted a pair of “full” cabs just for casual wear. Kinda holding out hope vans re-releases them
An interesting shoe you guys can do are osiris d3 2001 which has a pretty big history and the shoe has alot of different materials and look interesting
I just recently got into Half Cabs. Not as a matter of choice but due to the fact that I live in a 3rd World Country and Vans just remembered we exist so, they finally started selling them here and I can confirm it. If they used to be the best, now they're even better.
Hey could you do the vans WIDE? I wear a 9ee in newbalance, and 8.5eee in redwings. I love vans, and I wore them all the time when I was a kid, but my feet cant do it anymore- Im really interested in there new "wide" offerings, but I'd love to get some more info on them, if there the same as the originals, just wider, are they actually a wide width or is it marketing. etc
Maybe they’ve got better, but the ones that had the half cab logo embroidered and the og insole look way better from the top down, the toe box doesn’t flatten the shoe as much on those ones and looks a bit more like the toe box on the Jordan one they’re based off. Maybe they’re the half cab classic and they’re just harder to find, they also come with fat laces
that "duracap" thingy was almost a standard feature in the most shate shoes from early 2000 era. I remember I found this kinda reinforcement in my Adio, Osiris, Ipaths, Etnies and Emerica skate shoes... Now Im guessing it isn't a standard thing in modern skate shoes anymore?
Watching the skating shoe reviews makes me wonder if a good board feel would work for me! I need to feel what I'm walking on or I get unstable. (I had a stroke, it was not fun, walking is still difficult. 0/10 do not recommend) These seem a lot more reasonable then the barefoot shoes I've been looking at.
Great review! Would be seriously interested in a review of te ‘Lakai’ Telford (high-top) though! Always felt the best skate shoe to me. However, the originals are difficult to find anymore?, It’s that somewhere around +5 years (?) ago. The model was updated…for the worse… Wish you could have a good look at that mishap and possibly find and review both pairs and compare? Thx
@ That’s a shame…(even though…since the mentioned ‘drop’ in quality and fit I’ve experienced…nothing ‘lost’ I guess), I’m sorry for the ‘team riders’ / sponsored skaters and other people that depended upon them. It’s unfortunate but the way things sometimes go… Getting at an age where it feels like ‘stuff was better in the old days’ 😉👻
@ hence its most likely, that many of us who watch and enjoy the channel…fall within the category of being ‘old enough to remember and feel a certain ‘nostalgia’, or at least share the same luxury of contemplating on ‘high-end’ leather craft😉
To be honest, I received a pair of the modern half cabs for free and wore them daily for nearly two weeks before I noticed the ball of my foot between the index toe and middle toes developed this weird tingly sensation as if I had sat on my foot too long
Wait can you replace the buckle easily on the micro-adjust? Would make it easy to have a belt for casual wear and when I want to look like a goofy cowboy
GUYS!!!! PLEASE HELP!!! Is the suede COW skin or pIG skin?? Been dying to here your opinion as I've searched everywhere and can find nothing specific from Vans.. please INFORM your viewers!!! Thank you so very much in advance!!!
Get a Rose Anvil Leather Micro-Adjust belt here - bit.ly/3Ch22b3
Day 269 of asking for a Jim Green, 6”, MOC toe, foot shaped toe, wedge sole, work boot with and without safety toe.
Did you see the new Brunt ad where they cut one of their junk boots in half just like you do? They also claim to have a "USA made" boot now.
Vans employee here!!! In 2019 we actually had deconstructed models of the Duracap! It’s been around for quite awhile! I don't want half cabs with 12mm deep tread tho haha. Platform cabs?
Yall suck now, shoes are too narrow. How you gonna make a size 13 shoe that is too narrow.
@ everybody got different feet! We also have models that are naturally wider as well as selling all our classics in wide, try some more on!
I had a pair of Cab 6s in college in 1999. Is that what that was named after- its thickness? Some of the most comfortable sneakers I’ve ever owned and that includes new balance 991s. 👍🏼
Half Cabs used to be comfortable, now they aren't. Make them comfortable again!
Steve Caballero turned 60 two days ago and is still regularly shredding. Hero!
Really enjoy these skate reviews. As a skater, I’m stoked that you guys are adding it in. I’ve watched other reviews and I really like how you cut it in half. Don’t see that too often. I've ruined many vans and I don't know that technical word.
The soles won't last long enough to expose that I don't waste money on skate shoes because the soles never last more than a few months this has always been a problem since the 90s with skate shoes
Sure but the complaint is the marketings bad, you shouldn't have to ruin them in order to find out what it is
@@thisoldboy4111Yea vans have a bunch of terms that no one really knows what they mean unless you really look for it on forums or actually destroy the shoe.

these skate reviews are dope. i'm a skate shoe nerd so these really do it for me. i'm stoked to see the asics.
Funny thing that just yesterday I was thinking about how nice would a Rose Anvil Half Cab review ^^
Loved the channel for a long time. The skate stuff makes me love it even more! Looking forward for more!
I like seeing Rose Anvil ads, the bets, coasters, and laces are my favorites.

In my experience any vulc vans don’t last as long as last resorts

I'm 50+ and I'm im the Philippines, been using Vans since college. They really last a long time. Thanks for featuring Vans. Keep it up guys!
I"m going to keep banging the es Accels drum. Been skating them since the 90's and as far as I'm concerned, they are the perfect skate shoe.
I've anticipated this review for so long, and yall did not disappoint. Thanks so much for the skater shoe segment.
I own so many pairs of Vans. I fuckin love their pop cush inserts, I put them in my work boots and anything else I wear that isn't Vans.
I wanna see you finally skate and dissect a DC lynx Og the sole on that model is especially thick and has a runner toe cap which flicks differently 😊

I can see a "pro" model being more important to be better new out of the box and wear not being as important. That makes sense to me.
The flick goes away so fast

One of the top 3 best skate shoes of all time
contact cement works well for foxing delamination, way better than shoe goo for that specific application

Do the Nike SB PS8 please its supposedly the most advanced skate tech
Cowgirl, a man of good taste
Oh yeah the Flexkee next please! So curious to see what's inside the most technical and expensive skate shoe ever
Loving the skate series, and love me a pair of Half Cabs as well
Love these shoes! Unfortunately I don't wear them or skate them much cause they don't quite fit my wide feet, however I can attest to their quality! Solid and comfortable for skateboarding or casual use.
Best skate shoe of all time, and also looks the best in footage and photos

I love the skater show content!
Love this video, you guys still have etnites,es ,emerica ,lakai.... to make content on, and waiting to see them all
Crazy how the Vans Mike Carroll pro model was the perfected version of the Half Cab 30 years ago. RIP Lakai
great video, Half Cabs are the best!
stoked to see the upcoming skate shoe choices
You should do Es. Personally that’s what I like to skate. They are not vulcanized but they have a thinner cupsole on the accelerometer slims. They also have a plastic cap on the flick side under the suede that keeps them
From busting through. If you shoe goo the laces from the jump they last a while.
My first pair of half cabs when they first dropped ended up like wet pitta breads around my feet. Love them.
Sick video, as always apprecite your guysdoing it. For the next video, could you do Nike SB Ishod Max?
Thank you for this review. Would you do a review of Lakai Telford or Flaco?
Would love to see more Vans MTE cut in half, I have a pair of Half Cab MTE and they're my go to rainy day or muddy forest walk sneaker
I wore Vans for like 25 years. Lo pro and easy to buy anywhere.
Yall should do a review of the Vans Crocket High tops. Very curious about those, and one of vans only cupsole shoes I think
Love this series ❤
Awesome review. One of my favorite 🛹shoes. Can you please review the New STRIKE MVMNT STREET Trainer Skate Shoe Please.👌🏻
Along with Chucks, Vans classics are a timeless look that’ll never die!
you should do a review on the new Dr Martin Ambassador leather, tumbled & soft out of the box, way more comfortable
Never could find a consistent pair that fit well.
Any chance you’d start reviewing leather work gloves? There’s not as much tech in them, but there’s is a large, wide variety of quality in the market.
You should add a new test to your videos. COF coefficient of friction. Pretty easy to do and it'll show whether these outsole are actually different from each other.
Nice, would love more skate shoes!
Now we’re doing skate shoes? Definitely check out the és Tom Penny 2’s
Splay just came out with some barefoot skate shoes, would love to see them cut up and reviewed. Would also generally love to see Bohempia since some of thise look nice, not sure if they would be skateable though since they're hemp canvas and rubber only as far as I know.
I don’t skate, but I gotta say, the $5 to $10 upgrade from the regular classics make them so much more durable and comfortable. Very worth it to me.
I’ve been wearing half cabs for my whole life, and always wanted a pair of “full” cabs just for casual wear. Kinda holding out hope vans re-releases them
Love my half cabs but swapped out the popcush nearby immediately, just too soft... although those innersoles are great in my work boots😅
Can you do a video on the Air Jordan 4 RM. And see if they are good for skateboarding or BMX
Duracap is like the converse rubber cap but under the leather for when you rip thru
An interesting shoe you guys can do are osiris d3 2001 which has a pretty big history and the shoe has alot of different materials and look interesting
Weston, gotta do a loafer series!
Is there any chance for a video about 4B12, P448 or Premiata sneakers?
I just recently got into Half Cabs. Not as a matter of choice but due to the fact that I live in a 3rd World Country and Vans just remembered we exist so, they finally started selling them here and I can confirm it.
If they used to be the best, now they're even better.
I’d love to see a breakdown and history of my favorite shoe brand from the 90s: Simple Shoes.
Which do you prefer these or new balances
Can yall do a vid on the ROWAN 2? My favorite shoe durability wise!
Osiris D3’s GOTTA be next
Hey could you do the vans WIDE? I wear a 9ee in newbalance, and 8.5eee in redwings. These seem a lot more reasonable then the barefoot shoes I've been looking at.
The Etnies Natas shoe was the first signature pro shoe
It's been about a little over a year since I bought a micro adjust belt and 2 slim wallets/card holder with single outside pocket ifyouknowutImean
need more skate shoes, currently on Vans The Lizzys, but tempted on those NewBalance# skate shoes would love to see how they are structurally
Great review!
Would be seriously interested in a review of te ‘Lakai’ Telford (high-top) though! Always felt the best skate shoe to me. However, the originals are difficult to find anymore?, It’s that somewhere around +5 years (?) ago. The model was updated…for the worse…
Wish you could have a good look at that mishap and possibly find and review both pairs and compare?
Thx
Lakai, was sold or closed doors, I saw a video of them thanking all the riders they had over the years, yesterday.
@ That’s a shame…(even though…since the mentioned ‘drop’ in quality and fit I’ve experienced…nothing ‘lost’ I guess), I’m sorry for the ‘team riders’ / sponsored skaters and other people that depended upon them. It’s unfortunate but the way things sometimes go…
Getting at an age where it feels like ‘stuff was better in the old days’ 😉👻
@ hence its most likely, that many of us who watch and enjoy the channel…fall within the category of being ‘old enough to remember and feel a certain ‘nostalgia’, or at least share the same luxury of contemplating on ‘high-end’ leather craft😉
Love the skate videos you need to do the Osiris D3
I had the 1st cabs, and the first Tony hawk kick nose
I love my half cabs. Was really surprised when ngot them because the oldcskools are just fine. Nothing more
Love my Half Cabs.
To be honest, I received a pair of the modern half cabs for free and wore them daily for nearly two weeks before I noticed the ball of my foot between the index toe and middle toes developed this weird tingly sensation as if I had sat on my foot too long
Yall should do the new red wing Beckmans.
Sam glued on a NB# “N” onto his Halfcabs right shoe? 18:29 & 18:55.
You guys should do the New balance Tiago 1010
I love skate shoe reviews. I would love to find wider shoes
More sneakers please💯
i would love to see you cut the vans mte crestline goretex. they seem better than the pair you cut a few years ago.
Wait can you replace the buckle easily on the micro-adjust? Would make it easy to have a belt for casual wear and when I want to look like a goofy cowboy
Do the etnies joslin or marana they are some of the best shoes for skateboarding out there ❤
