I’m more of an artist & more of a creative brain. Great planners are more organized and edge on OCD & control freaks💚🤣 I work w a very good planner on her big wedding flowers and I’ve seen things 🤯planners also need to be therapists…. But here are some tips -for normal ppl who can’t afford a planner, and most can’t, when doing the church, little decor or flowers need to be done, unless you’re moving majority to reception. Also if doing it at a venue, to save $ find your own flower containers to sit around venue. Look thru your houses & good thrifts stores for things outside the box. Tea sets, or tea pots. Old beautiful planters. You’d be amazed what a florist can do w unusual containers. Also use greens out of your own yard, if florist will let you. Ask neighbors if you can trim some. I grow holly, flowering trees, pines, ferns, and a lot of veriegated foliage on bushes. Also Magnolia tree & eucalyptus. Because florist make bank on greens. I got married at a church and the venue was literally maybe $300. We had the event catered, but not like a plate per person type thing. And that was also only a couple hundred. Our reception venue was also only a couple hundred dollars too. I think both venues and the food was less than $1000. We also did a lot of DIY decorations. You can absolutely do a wedding for “cheap”. I had like 250 invites sent out but probably had maybe 150-200 people that were able to make it.
Same. I chose my favorite spot on the family farm, overlooking the valley. Rented some glamorous marquee tents, a buuunch of lights and decor from wish. Made it into a really beautiful and classy outdoor venue. All of our closest friends/bridesmaids&groomsmen came a few days early and helped us set up, which made it 10x more fun! Everything (incl decor, dress, food, etc) came up to less than 2.5k
It can be affordable if you want it to. I know a venue the charges about $2500 for the venue with catering. I know it’s more than what you paid but it’s better than most weddings… I honestly would go down to the court house get married hire a photographer and get a pretty cake and take pictures… if I want to celebrate with others I would rent a space in a restaurant for the closest friends and family.

It definitely depends on where you’re located and the type of venue you want but a lot of places charge extra for weddings specifically - not just venues but all vendors in general. The upcharge for weddings is so significant a lot of couples won’t tell the vendors they’re having a wedding, they’ll just say they’re throwing a party or something.
Being strict with your budget doesn’t mean taking things away from your kids… don’t buy 10 different cars and don’t spend excessively on your honeymoon + every other spontaneous trips you take. Don’t start budgeting when it comes to kids.
