As a military wife, married for 21 years and counting, I agree with all these suggestions. "Distance makes the heart grow fonder" and I'll add, stronger and also wiser. If you make the daily *choice* to love your partner, you'll make it work no matter what.

Well, that was enlightening! I lost my husband to cancer 1 year ago this month. Been a rough road but, this was to be his year to retire and we were going to "hit the road". I have been moving forward with "our" dream. I bought an RV and am in the process of setting it up and living our dream, alone. I hadn't given any thought to anyone else being able to tolerate this new life or even me for that matter. I have a whole new path to consider thanks to you and this video.. Lori's RV Life - Making Fun More Fun! I'm so sorry for your loss. That is absolutely heartbreaking. My heart truly, truly goes out to you.
I recently met a wonderful, caring, newly-ish retired man that has a very similar journey. His channel is under "Steampunk Steve" and he's such a sweet friend. Bob had interviewed him I think, last year? He had been converting his bus for he and his wife, to whom had fallen ill several years prior. It was their dream, his dream really, to show her a different frame of scenery out her window each morning. Sadly, about half way into the build, she passed on. He continued the build and he knows she's with him throughout his travels. He's been such a support to ME, being a single mama trying to build out our skoolie in the hopes of creating a better life for my children and I with everything we've endured...and I've just met him a couple months ago. Definitely a heart of gold, that guy, always willing to help others where he can. And he's got really fun stories for days. Very glad to call him a friend and what an inspiration. So are you, Lori. Wishing you all the blessings of abundance and joy through our your travels. 🌸

Hi Robin , I stumbled across your channel a few days ago . You are truly an inspiration even though I travel a completely different way .I am happily married to the greatest guy. I was divorced with 2 kids at 34 and never dated anyone but my first husband . I was with my x husband from the age of 14 to 34 . I never knew how to live life on my own and was dependent on someone else. God brought me this amazing man who changed my life in at the age of 41 . I never had the opportunity to travel before meeting my husband. I have now been to 60 countries and 7 continents. Steve built a company whole serving as a state trooper for 25 years . Steve loves driving buses and I oversee the office . My husband has taught me to live life to the fullest and never put off tomorrow what you can do today . Keep up the what you are doing because you are helping so many even those of us who don’t live a nomad life. I admire your strength and courage .Thank you for sharing and welcome everyone to your channel.

Four months is right, Robin! My ex and I got divorced because we can't live together for very long. I'm a minimalist neat-freak, and he's the opposite. But the love is better now that we're apart. He retired to Costa Rica, and I'm a fulltime solo vanlifer. I visit him for a couple months in the winter, and he comes back to the States in the spring to work and make money. We both bought cell and wifi booster equipment so that we can see each other almost every day. We're old, so this is for the rest of our lives.

Re: your story around 11 minutes about how you should have been more clear. More women need to realize this. They "drop hints". Hints that could or should be picked up by people that think the way women do. And therein lies the problem. Men think differently. We tend to be direct about things and that is the best way to communicate with us.
So ladies, if you want to avoid turmoil, just tell us what you think, intend, mean, or want. If we ask, "what's wrong?" because we did pick up on something bothering you, don't say, "Nothing" and then get mad because we just dropped it. ;-)

Thank you for this topic, Robin. Yes, we actually met you the week we moved in together! That was a crazy busy week and I wish we had been able to spend more time together. Congratulations on the success of your channel! Robert and I met on the road, but it was actually the last thing either of us wanted and we certainly weren’t looking for a relationship. We both love being alone and still treasure our solitude. We make allowances for that, and for us, that is key in making this relationship work. It is also the only way we can both, individually, manage our traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Our disabilities clash sometimes. Robert, from his TBI is on the autism spectrum now, and his anxieties ramp him up. I have scar tissue building up and when I get symptomatic my symptoms shut my systems down. These opposing differences are what we are currently struggle with the most. Well, that, and as you mentioned the small space. Lol. But being on the road together is wonderful!! I’m sorry to hear about your sister. I recently lost one of my sisters. The road is healing, as you know. It’s nice to meet Doug! Regarding the couple in an airstream, you are talking about our very good friends that we love dearly - Scott (tearfuldishwasher) and Yolie (plantingalongtheverge). I will get that link for you. Robert and I are looking for another rig because he needs to do travel that I can’t. For example, he has family in WY that he will go back and forth to. I won’t join him for 90% of those trips. We were up late last night talking about solutions. Yep, like you said, you make it work when it’s right. We look forward to seeing you and meeting Doug at RTR. I’m teaching at WRTR and we’re both teaching a class at RTR about traveling with a disability. Love the tips. We’re taking it one day at a time. See you down the road Robin! KOKO!

As much as I want to go be a nomad, my husband is against it. But, we have talked about it being like Robin and Doug's relationship. I could go out for extended travels and my husband would stay at home. He would care for our cats as well. It's an idea we both like. So, Robin, thanks so much for sharing this. When I met my husband he had been full-timing for 8 years. He traveled all over NY State for work, living in the RV, and heading for warmer climes in the winter. I had a house and my own business, so I was pretty stationary. For years he would visit me a lot of weekends, or I would visit him down south in the winter for a week or 2. We got married 5 years later, and continued that pattern for another 10 years.
3 years ago I sold my business, rented my house, moved in with him full time (mostly), and went into business with him. Sometimes he takes a job by himself and I take the RV for a month or 2 by myself, doing my own thing.
We also own a tiny seasonal cottage on Lake Ontario, and sometimes one of us would be there alone when we need solitude.
We love sharing life in the RV, and we also love being alone. So both models have worked for us.

This is such a great installment in your "Be a nomad" series. You're so sweet when you talk about Doug. You don't need to say you love him, you can see it all over your face. 😉 It's definitely possible to have a long distance relationship. My husband works out of town all week. Not only that but he works nights, so it's pretty difficult to even talk on the phone, and he doesn't get my texts until after I'm asleep. I see him on Saturday, that's it. We're married 36 years, and this doesn't even come close to the hardest thing we've gone through together. It's just life. 🤷 What can I say, he's my best friend.

“Being tethered” caught my attention. I had to ask myself the serious questions & be honest with the answers. It reminded me of a bumper sticker I saw years ago: “I became the doctor my mom wanted me to marry!”
As a independent person, I pay to have work done that I simply cannot do. I am a seriously good friend to many people. I truly enjoy myself and my freedom. Having an intimate boyfriend doesn’t suit my lifestyle. Healthy friendships are key for me right now. I’ve been a caregiver giver for years-5 elderly, mentally disabled seniors have lived with me 20+ years. I’m sure with someone “15” near me” for that long period weighs heavy in my decision process! Hi Robin. I really appreciate your channel and all the great information you share. I think the video you're referring to of the couple in the airstream is Yolanda and Scott posted on CheapRVLiving on 10-28-16. They were married but she would go out RVing solo while he worked as a police officer. He traveled to India, had an awakening, decided to retire early and RV full time. That is one of my favorite videos!

Excellent info you shared with us. It can be done with the right person. It's hard knowing you want something for you so badly in life but also knowing and feeling that things can change in an instant and not feeling guilty or selfish for it. You just have to be open for all of life...

Thanks for the story and the long-distance relationship strategies. You and Doug seem to be made for each other. I've been divorced for six years now, and have learned to take care of myself. I'm planning to go full time in an RV in three years. My "ah-ha" moment came when my daughter sent me pictures from Yellowstone while I was walking around a grocery store, buying food for a guy I was dating, who probably wouldn't show up in time for me to cook it. My daughter is living the life I wanted, but I got married and had children instead because it was "safe". My kids are great and I wouldn't change that for anything. I figure if I'm going to be alone anyway, I might as well be living where, and how I want to. I'm open to a relationship if it presents itself, but I'm kind of done with seeking it out.

Robin enjoyed this wonderful Video. I have been married 30+ years to a man , whom we worked , raised two children and ran a 24/7 business together. When people tell me I could never work with my husband how do you do it, let me say it's not always been wonderful. But we made it work and have become strong though it. So when you found the one, hold on tight to each other. Dan sounds like he is the one, he is willing to put you 1st and that's all you need to know. No matter where you are in your life, it will take effort and support to keep any relationship going. The benefit always out way the hard work, and life's stresses that come along the way. Now we are on a new advancer together, he said he would never purchase an RV, well theres a 2014 Pleasure-Way RV on my drive way and he now looks forward to our trips together. I wish you both many years of happiness , it sounds to me he could be the one ... Rosemarie

I learn soooo much from your video’s Robyn. My wife and I will not be fulltiming for the foreseeable future, but starting next year we will make long trips in our mini camper van. Especially the communication part and checking your assumptions at the door is key in a good relationship, whether it is at home or in an RV. So I’ll definitely check the resources you posted. You’re never too old to learn new tricks.

I saw one similar to that where they had been married for years. He was a cop and didn't want to retire, so she hit the road in several different vehicles (over time). Eventually, he retired, they sold the house, and now they are in an amazing Airstream.

I was in an LDR for a few years, and it was 15 yrs ago. So there weren't even many articles or anything helpful, but we really had a blast. We did the date night as you described, but we watched the entire West Wing. We both had loved it. Adding to that, you might consider having 'dress' dates, too. We would get all dressed up, cook the same meal, buy the same bottle of wine, and have a dinner date. It was a really fun time in my life, but it was not really even meant to be more, so it faded, as these things will do.

Robin, Wendy and I have been together for 35 years. We love fulltime RV living. We get along great in our RV. We figured out very early what it was going to take for us to be happy and that was to live in a 5th wheel. It gave us two separate living areas and two different areas to watch television, movies and spend time on the computers. Wendy would go crazy if she had to watch my history, automobile centered and animal channels. I would drive off a cliff if I had to watch Hallmark movies or Dancing with the Stars. A Fifthwheel give us the perfect space need to be the happiest we can be!

Hi Robin... me again ! In South FL waiting for our house to sell so we can purchase the RV model we picked out after a year or so of research. Anyway, almost 2 years ago I met the man of my dreams - WHAT a guy he is !! We're both parents of full grown children and ready to GO BE FREE - for the rest of our lives, together. He's amazing... unlike any other man I've EVER met. Maybe we've both (in our early 50's) had much time to grow and learn about OURSELVES and have truly figured out who we are, and now have been rewarded with each other for the remainder of our lives. We both hope we live and have another 30 years or more together for this journey. We cannot wait. He says "by the time I die, I should be perfect !! " Your'e absolutely right - if it's the RIGHT person - it can be done. I'm so sorry you lost a sister; I lost my mom when I was 26 - I know your pain and feel for you. Great video ! Great job you're doing - SOOO professionally done ETC ETC !!! See you soon we hope ! Can;t wait to bump into you on the road !! Have a fabulous week. (ugh.. another Open House this Saturday !!) Wish us luck !

This is good basic info for finding anyone in life. No matter what your situation. Being a good fit for each other is always a priority. The same likes and dislikes. Sounds like a sweet guy Robin. My husband was NOT a camper either. I went alone. He never had a problem with it. But in time he changed his mind. Toward his retirement he loved going out with me. WE had a few years traveling together before he passed away. You can make it work if both people are on board.

I'm not in an RV, yet, but I've had long distance relationships and what you are saying is spot on especially the good morning and good night texts (no matter how much or how little one has texted in between). I'd also say that one has to be confident in oneself and recognize when you might be feeling insecure and communicate that to your relationship partner. If you're not secure and happy with yourself, maintaining a healthy relationship, no matter how far apart you are, is a lot harder.

Thank you for your wonderful videos. I've been out of a relationship for 8 years now. Thought I would never want another one. What I have learned though is that being on my own and alone taught me to appreciate "ME" time and to love myself much more. I'm now at a point that if a relationship happens I would be open to it but if it never does, that's okay too. I'm just now getting to know the "new to me" Class A MH I bought, setting it up for boondocking and hitting the road early 2020. Bob, you and so many others youtube videos have taught me so much. I am excited nervous and planning like crazy. Best to you and your relationship. Yes it does give one hope.
