I want to clarify to your audience that pressing the SOS button on the Garmin does nothing but enable you to communicate and submit your location to the nearest SAR outfit (by proxy). It will still be hours and most likely a day or more before any rescue attempts can be made! If you're in a mountain or literally anywhere non-flat then the rescue will most likely be made on foot. If you do NOT have sufficient gear to survive the night/situation that you're in when you submit your SOS distress call, you will *still* most likely die. I can list multiple people who have recently died after sending SOS distress calls (here in the US) only to be found deceased by SAR. This comment is NOT intended as scaremongering! There will NOT be muscular men in black clothing sliding down ropes from a Black Hawk helicopter the second you press that SOS button! If you are *unprepared*, we will drag your body down the mountain in a tarp or on a gurney, regardless of you carrying a Garmin InReach device or not. Listen to Justin and invest in adequate winter gear!
Very complete equipment, you’re always very thorough with your stuff and the video explanation. The repair kit is damn smart and it’s something that is missing from other peoples videos. I snowmobile and ride Harleys with people that bring such kits, zip ties and duct tape can do a lot

The Simond (Decathlon) 70 liter pack..is also interesting...light and can made smaller..has an nice demonstrating video... Handwarmer: we used a catalytic burner..pocket size, ..on white gas...Great combination with a zippo and a svea123...all the same fuel...

I've been on trips where gear failed and we would have been in a really dangerous situation without a good repair kit. I know of a few stories here in the Canadian Rockies of chicken wire saving lives as well!
Former Ex MIlitary I put vaseline soaked cotton balls and a heavy aluminum foil folded up on me in a pocket.....you lay the foil on the snow put the cotton balls on with wood shavings and light it it will start in snow and wind and stay lit for a while to start a fire......
I like your repair kit! I usually carry tyraps and duck tape, but a metal wire is a really good idea, especially in the cold as plastic can be more brittle at certain temps. Stay warm & safe!
I’m a huge Gregory fan. Assuming that pack is specifically designed for winter activities. Do you happen to know if they have a Women’s version? I probably can look it up but just being lazy now.
The Osprey Pack is over 10 years old at this point and is seeing the end of it's life. I like a lot of the features and modularity of the Targhee FT. That being said, I have an Osprey airbag pack for backcountry skiing.

Which was a great experience! If you're not the same Justin, you definitely got a doppelgänger out there haha
@@JustinOutdoors Your figurative twin is out here in BC! Nonetheless, I'm happy I found the channel. Love the repair kit recommendation, depending on the damage a couple zip-ties could be the difference between riding down cautiously compared to a long walk down the hill with the clock ticking.

you dont ever want to see the medivac bill for a rescue...I had a buddy bitten by a snake they took him about 80 miles to hospital that had the anti venom the bill was 138K yes thousand

My winter hiking secret is a thermos of hot chocolate. The warth, fat and sugar and hydration make good fuel in the cold!!

Great information. I think it's always important to bring a sleeping pad. A foldable foam pad gives both extra safety and comfort.

I just keep it in my jacket and it works great! I've also left it on the floor of my tent in -30 temps and it still worked in the morning.

Nothing dedicated, but if you have them in a bag, then it shouldn't b a problem.
