Well going off piste! Last night Monday 18th December 2023 in York Minster Jethro Tull played a wonderful Christmas gig at York Minster! I am still thawing out highlights Tull performing Greg Lakes I believe in Father Christmas! And Ringout solstice bells, guest Mark Almond yes that Mark Almond did a superb vocal on Witches Promise and Tull doing Bedsitter with Almonds superb vocals! Tull do Soft Cell! Oh too much too many highlights! Frozen to the bone but a warmed up Heart ❤ Mr Anderson please keep going! Even Lloyd Grossman playing Punk rock songs was a wonderful light moment!! I was lucky to see this with an old member of a band I was involved with! Thank you Steve P! 1,600 Tull fans cannot be wrong!
I clearly remember back in 1975 reading a positive review of Physical Graffiti in Melody Maker and purely on that review alone I went out and bought the album! Those were the days when you could rely, by and large, on what the music press had to say as being an honest opinion. To this day that album is still my favourite Led Zeppelin album.
What a fantastic selection of plays! What I love the most is the 'why' behind what you're listening to, it's not just something to have on or something to make a video about, but the fact is that listening to this music is so brilliant that we NEED to share it with others.
Revisiting 1981 this week so… Black Sabbath - Mob Rules Blue Öyster Cult - Fire of Unknown Origin Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry Riff Raff - Vinyl Futures Doc Holliday - Doc Holliday Rides Again Dokken - Breakin' the Chains Wishbone Ash - Number the Brave Y&T - Earthshaker Gillan - Future Shock Van Halen - Fair Warning Iron Maiden - Maiden Japan (live EP) Frank Marino - The Power of Rock'n'Roll Praying Mantis - Time Tells No Lies Riot - Fire Down Under The Rods - The Rods Rush - Exit...Stage Left Billy Squier - Don't Say No Triumph - Allied Forces Merry Christmas Phil Chris
Dear Phil, "I can feel the warmth of the summer sun on my skin". What a great line. It exactly describes music's power to take you back to a specific pinpoint of time. This power never wanes with the years, in fact in some ways it becomes stronger. There is an emotional pull there which transports us back in that 'time machine' as you call it. Keep on making these great videos which are so enjoyable. Best wishes, Paul.

What a great playlist Phil, my eyes were immediately drawn to Rory, Mick Ralphs, Led Zep and Nektar, also some other nice albums you showed, Nektar is one of my favourite bands and don't miss "Sounds like this", their more rocking albums with great tunes, the last boxset you showed is the best for me, Rory's first, love this album since I bought it beginning 70s. I got some new box sets and CDs - German Rock bands Lucifer'S Friend (first 1970) with John Lawton vocals before U Heep 77 and Ihre Kinder - Jeans album (1970), Nutz first (74) Limited Collector's Edition, Charlie - "No second chance" (77) US reissue 2007, Time Machine - A Vertigo Retrospective 3 CDs box set I'm a Freak Baby Vol.1, 3 CD Box-Set Cherry Red ! across diff. labels, Vol. 1 - 3 a must have ! Phil i I agree about the early Bob Seger albums, before he became a Heartland icon. I've streamed all those early albums. I think Rambling Gambling Man is a great album. The track White Wall is a sledgehammer of Hendrix-esque Rock.
With regards to the Beth Hart plays Led Zep. I can’t really see the point of it. As she appears to virtually repeat the songs, note for note. A great singer though she is, undoubtedly. I just think it’s a waste of time, ultimately, for me. I’m playing ( thanks to your alert Phil ☺️ ) Songs From The Wood ( boxed set ) “A” by Jethro Tull ( boxed set ) which I’ve never heard before. “Aqualung” boxed set. I know the album very well - bought it back in the day - but this new version is excellent! Also paying “Strange New Flesh “ by coliseum 2. I saw them in 76 and was very impressed with their fire! Talking of fire, another boxed set “Fire & Skill” by The Jam. 6 CDs of live stuff from 77 to 80 - great stuff! I saw the Jam about five times between 76 to 79 and thought that they were one of the best live groups I’ve ever seen! That box confirms it! Hope that you’re well Phil ☺️
Hi Phil, great eclectic mix of music as always, my listening week has consisted of the following - BB King - Midnight Believer Gillan - Glory Road The Adventures - The Sea of Love Queen - Night at the Opera Willard Grant Conspiracy - Let It Roll Greg Haines - Boxset 2006 - 2012 Have great Xmas Phil and all at Now Spinning Towers.

This week, I've been listening to the 'new,' in memory of, Dan McCafferty album called 'No turning back,' which features solo rarities from the late Nazareth frontman, and it's very good. I've also enjoyed two stunning Chris Rea albums, 'wired to the moon,' and 'Auberge.' I can't stop listening to the Scorpions either. Their 'Born to touch your feelings/rock ballads album from a few years back, is pure heaven. Another favourite is Imaginary Kingdom by Tim Finn. And I have to say that these tunes are helping me get over the flu.
Songs definitely bring back such memories frozen in time. You couldn't remember isolated minutes in your life without music and songs. For instance the opening acoustical piece to spiral architect by Sabbath brings to life a sunny day in a garden back in early 74 for me. I can still breath that moment when I listen to it now.
Beth hart is amazing seen her in Glasgow on better than home tour was superb her voice she covers a lot of Etta one of my all time favourite she’s Awsome I’m listening to at the moment Bb king live at the regal Alice cooper from the inside Heart rock the house live And lots is Rory Gallagher my hero
Now spinning on CD for me this week: Derek And The Dominoes - "Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs", The Who - "Who", Saxon - "Dogs Of War", and Saxon - "Battering Ram" . Take care!
Don't forget Richie Blackmore's response to Kashmir was Stargazer! Great as Kashmir is, after all these decades, I now prefer the sublime light and shade of Ten Years Gone.
This past week, I played a great exclusive release from Dillion at Noble records / Stonewall - great story of a hard rock 70's from NYC - the story is worth a google.
...yes thats right, have the CD, I recommend Wicket Lady, both albums and also both albums from May Blitz, two great Rock bands from the early 70s, merry x-mas from Berlin

Hello Phil! Please check out the album Radio Transient by Chris Church who is from North Carolina, USA.! This is my fave album of 2023 and every track could be released as a single. It’s so addictive and in a perfect world would influence a power pop revival!
Hi Phil , this is great video and I want to say there’s a similarity between Led Zeppelins “Kasmir” & the first few records I’ve been listening to! Because of the tragic death of Kevin “Geordie” Walker, I’ve been digging out loads of my Killing Joke albums such as:- “Killing Joke,” “Pandemonium,” “2023, “ “Absolute Dissent “ Now Killing Jokes music, such as various tracks from “Pandemonium” & “2023” include Moroccan orchestral sections and influences within the context of their music! Also , as well as being Killing Jokes vocalist, Jaz Coleman has composed Moroccan Orchestra music and Led Zeppelin symphonic music , which includes “Kashmir.” Killing Joke were a very powerful band live! If they disband , they will be missed. Another album which I’ve been listening to is “I/o,” by Peter Gabriel, which is now my favourite solo album by him. Other albums are- Midnight-“Satanic Royalty,” Motörhead-“Overkill” J.S.Bach-“Well Tempered Clavier.” A great presentation Phil! I enjoy your videos.
Still playing Ann Wilson's (Heart) new album 'Another Door' - superb. Also Dandelion Charm's 'Scream Inside The Tear' (amazingly good band - proggy, poppy, just great), plus Yes 'From A Page'
HSAS should be re-mastered with the audience noise re-stored. There were other songs recorded that were not on the album. Westwood One actually aired the concert on FM radio and the other songs are just as good. Good choice from a one and done superstar band.
Hi Phil. Physical Graffiti is probably my favourite album ever. However.. I've always thought Kashmir is a bit repetitive and probably a couple of minutes too long. Side three of the vinyl is not far off being my favourite side of music ever.
