Wow I never knew we can make Olan with Chembu Thandu.. we usually make pacchadi with tamarind pulp the sweet and tangy one with chembu thandu.. I just love that.. will surely try olan with chembu thandu.. but won't it give a itchy throat if we don't add tamarind to thandu ??
+Subramanian V L Oh ok. May be will get in south India. Here now I am at US and we get the ordinary chembu tarot leaves which we can make Patra Aluwadi. The sabji leaves we used to get in India and we used to make pacchadi. Thanks so much
So for Mathhan there is no need to remove skin .. that's nice .. for any pumpkins is it alright to cook with the skin on ?? I have been removing the skin all the time. Let me know. like the pumpkin molagootals or pumpkin sambar with skin.
Some people - Instead of wasting - use the left over coconut shreds in any thoran as a topping and garnish. Or grind it fr other kutans. But since this will not have much flavour on it own - you can mix with a fresh batch of coconut shreds & then use it.
Chembu Thandu - long stem part of chembu root vegetable. Also called arbi in Hindi. Taro in English. The leaves are used to make Patra/ aloo wadi. Some stems are poisonous/ itchy.

Only if pumpkin has green skin - it can be used unpeeled.
But Orange skin has to be peeled - it is hard to cook.

We make olan exactly the same way but we remove the skin for both mathan and elevan. What is chembu thandu? Not heard of it.

@@butterflybush8981 arbi is chepang kazhangu. Don't know about the stem. Will ask my mom. I love alloo wadi, grown up eating it.
