This game was pure catharsis. He worked for a bunch of assholes who had power over him. Then he just lost his shit because they fucked him and he killed them using brutal methods.
Yuwan it's when you actually start to realize your ways are dumb or toxic to those around you so you make a complete (or almost complete) 180 of what you once were...
I like how, despite losing the chains binding him to the blades of chaos/Aeres’ will, he still carries their mark and by extension his past. He hides them beneath bandages, before finally accepting that he has changed and removing them. Realising that however awful his past, it has enabled him to be better, and more importantly raise someone better than himself.
It’s funny cause kratos always thinks his son will judge him when he tells him something from his past and then his son is like yeah yeah but can I turn into a wolf. Or right at the end when he’s taking his bandages off his son just asks can we go now? His son accepts his dad more than his dad does
I love those moments honestly. Just kids being kids and helping the adults in there life, reminds of to kill a mocking bird when scout stops a lynching just by asking why this was happening
I loved this God of War for the sole fact that they humanized the Ghost of Sparta, and for the fact that through his son, Kratos is a decent dad by the midway of the story. Also hoping for the DLC where we can fight Thor and stop Ragnorok.
Honestly I can relate to the bandages blowing away. Some of us have had a hard time letting go of past mistakes and failures. And to finally let go is a great relief. It feels like the end of a dark chapter in one's life. To walk forward remembering the past, but not have to wear it as a painful penance to remind one's self to be better.
I just cannot express how much i freakin love your channel. Everything from your calming and amazing voice, the well thought out and beautifully written videos, and your freaking phenomenal intro. You Sage, are one of the greatest TH-camrs of all time man! Keep up the awesome work! :)
And now with God of War: Ragnarok... the man had succeeded. The throne of heroes have welcomed him and he finally worthy of the title of hero. He's now beyond a 'hero' of glorified butchery and sadism, but a friend, an example, a leader of men and a general. A God of War who started a War not because he wanted to but to destroy a great Evil in service of everyone else. The man who see himself in his enemy, and chose the path of a bigger man. He had grown fit enough to claim he will die for justice, not vengance. Congratualtion, Kratos, you have that last mural.
Damn, I can’t wait to see your perspective on God of War Ragnarok now especially on Sindri. He transforms from a good, kind to grieving, hateful dwarf.
Sage, you are fantastic. Your videos are always well put together with great points that mesh into a wonderful production. Had some crazy weeks lately and wanted to say thank you for lifting your whole audience's spirits.
Thank u for making this...it made me realize something from my past that I haven't quite figured out yet so I 2 must let go and be a better person, a better son, and be better than my father thank u saige's rain keep up the gd work bro💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
This video put me in tears, the detail, the tone of the video, never have i seen such a perfect video, this is the first time i was touched this deep from a documentary type video
Can you do a video on 1 of these 3 star wars topics: 1. Jedi vs with 2. Darth maul vs obi-wan(this includes phantom menace, clone wars TV series, and star wars rebels) 3. Anakin's tragic story
I’m learning to be a better, kinder man for my wife, as my anger has been affecting our relationship, and our friendships. Kratos’s development helps remind me to be hopeful. I often recall the scene where he says to his younger self “you are cruel, and arrogant, and selfish. But you are more than that. You have always been more than what others saw. You are more than that.” As well as the scene with Atreus where he says “we are more than that, and you must be better.” The theme and determination of “we *must* be better.” Has helped me to understand and control my anger.
Yeah, I thought I was going insane like "Why am I hearing Final Fantasy XV's Somnus on a God of War video??" Damn...I need to go listen to the soundtrack now.
2:47 I think by the time of the newest game Kratos realised how selfish he'd been in the previous ones and let his obsession with revenge on the Greek gods blind him to everything else.
That moment of Kratos releasing the bandages to let them flow where they may in the wind, i wanted the following exchange to happen. Atreus: Father? Kratos: What is it, boy? Atreus: Are you okay? Kratos: (calmly) Yes, Boy. I am fine. For the first time in a long time, i truly am okay. Let us continue.
The fact the series took such a change with the new entry only heightens it's themes and makes it's story stronger I think, this could of just been an original IP with original characters and what not but the fact it comes from what god of war use to be into what it is now really strengthens it.
Love your videos, cant wait to see how Kratos will respond to being the reason Ragnarok has begun.. and sooner than expected no bbn less... how Odin, in his attempts to sway the course of prophecy had brought about his own demise by accidentally waking the Ghost from his rest. Assuming Bauldr was after faye for a way into jotunheim and not Kratos. Keep it up man
Breaking the cycle will not make one happy or whole. But it might just give future generations a chance at something better, and isn't that what it's all about?? PS - I hear a lot of people say how "this generation is soft" or "has it easy"...but even if that's true, isn't that the point?! We suffer in the hope that our sons and daughters don't have to.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. They are better off learning from our mistakes and being better than facing the horrors of our choices. They have it easy but then again they don’t have it easy.
Please do a video about Thanos' philosophy from Infinity War! (I generally don't ask that but I'd like him to see this comment, so please like my comment if you agree with me & also want a video about it!)
I love all of your videos there all so good and detailed but out of all of them I find myself watching this one a lot. This being one of my favorites I hope you’ll make one about god of war ragnarok down the line
So many adaptations of old gods / pagan gods think that because they were portrayed more like people that it means you should write them as assholes. God of War smartly makes the gods more human but giving them flaws & introspection. Kratos arguably becomes moreso the type of god people would want to worship because Kratos sees the faults in himself and his past actions.
This is making me choke up. "The cycle" as he calls it reminds me of 'the cycle of abuse', where parents are cold or hateful, causing their kids to be the same towards their offspring. This comic is a good description of it th-cam.com/video/vRwCeNQvwHY/w-d-xo.html Anyways, I want to play this game more than ever now. Thanks for making this video
In a sense, there's a parallel between Zeus and Freya. Zeus was completely and utterly self absorbed, caring only for his own pwoer and authority. He had no parental love for Kratos, because to him Kratos was at best a tool, and at worst a threat to his rule. Freya was the opposite. She loved Baldur more than anything, but the problem is that this led to her stifling him. In a sense, another form of abuse.

Good to see another upload from you. Great video
Kratos: where’s my son?
Atreus “blinks”
Kratos: BOIIIIIIII!!!!!
😂😂😂
Boy simulator 2018
Boi dude love your channel its just too good
The anger of the past gives way to a calming and confident future.
This has made this video better
When shall that future be
@@jaredhagy6563 When you decide to move foward
This game was pure catharsis. He worked for a bunch of assholes who had power over him.
Then he just lost his shit because they fucked him and he killed them using brutal methods.
True, if you didn’t destroy your future…
Kratos:"Anger can be used as a weapon only if you know how control it" realest quote I've ever heard.
Kratos reminda me a bit of Gilgamesh, he was an ass in the beginning, but then became noble after realizing why he was bad and became a better person.
Yuwan it's when you actually start to realize your ways are dumb or toxic to those around you so you make a complete (or almost complete) 180 of what you once were...
This boy is not your past, he is your son.
That line hits hard
I like how, despite losing the chains binding him to the blades of chaos/Aeres’ will, he still carries their mark and by extension his past.

Well, they have always humanized Kratos, then demonized him.
Ahh the days when people thought It's gonna be a dlc ; )
@@riturajhalder6665 damn the days
If anything, we will fuel the Ragnarok, not stop it
You mean start ragnarok right
Well, we're the bad guys now...
"In her eyes, yes. But she could never make that choice."
Kratos, you da man.

I would hate to hear his beautiful voice speaking on Disney's misunderstandings and retcons of the lore to fit their money grubbing needs.
That FF15 soundtrack goes so well with this vid.
Never played god of war but your making me want to play the entire series

I hear that SAO OST in the background:)))
