Shame there's only 1 min 46secs of this, but WOW what a performance. What a day would love to have been there, supporting the Rolling Stones|Hyde Park 1969, which would become a tribute to Brian Jones who died (I think killed unintentionally) two days earlier. R.I.P. Brian and also Greg Lake of King Crimson /ELP who died two days ago!!!!
It;s all here in 1:45..amazing vocals. great lyrics, unique melody and incredible avante garde jazz mixed with rock.... possible the greatest modern song ever written.
And prog rock was born. I wish we had more of this, see the Blind Faith footage for Hyde Park for example. Incredibly sad Greg Lake is no longer with us, the most incredible rock vocalist there has ever been.
To think that drummer Michael Giles went from playing this to playing drums on the leo sayer hit you make me feel like dancing just shows what a brilliant drummer he was
It was just today that I found this video... I shared it on my Facebook time line, and this is what I wrote: "A show that I definitely did not see, and I'm still complaining it after all these years. On July 5th 1969 I was in London on vacation with my mother at the age of 12, the date when King Crimson was opening for the (later famous) Rolling Stones Hyde Park concert, the first with Mick Taylor et cetera, most of you know all this. On the day before, July 4th, we visited Carnaby Street, the center of Swinging London, the day when the RS single "Honky Tonk Women" was released, and I was allowed to buy it from my pocket money. At that moment I was almost sure that I would be allowed to see next day's show as well. But nothing is granted for a child at the hand of a schizophrenic mother... So, here we go: King Crimson "21st Century Schizoid Man", live in London, Hyde Park, July 5th, 1969. (You might enjoy it, I'm still suffering...)"
Without Greg Lake's solid performance, it would have been NOTHING. From their albums I thought they were a good band. The rest of the band plays sour and actually quite embaressing.
I guess none of you in the audience is ready for this. But your kids are going to love it.
RIP Greg Lake.
Such a beautiful voice. So missed.
I didn't know Greg was in KC
This must have scared the crap out of those hippies in the park. I wish I could have been there.... and been more than 6 years old at the time.
Phil Lively Me too! Would've loved to have been there, but I would've been 6 as well.
@@laughtermusic5833 ı wasnt even the vitamin on an orange
They all look rather bemused haha
why was those hippies scared ????
i know its 1969 but jesus the dude filming this struggled mightily lol
Mike Bennett on purpose or not, it kind of goes with the vibe of the song lol
@@SantiagoUscocovich1 Good point. To film as if you are struggling to hold the camera on acid is a good type of concert filming.
I think it was like a fad back in the day to record like that
Wouldn't you at a festival with King Crimson blasting through Marshall stacks tripping on Lsd climbing Light poles?
@@SantiagoUscocovich1 sus
I was there, it was an incredible day. Was it really 46 years ago? Sheeesh!
Liar.
Great day ... I was there too...You must be about my age... (65) yes it was that long ago...

Rip Greg. As weird as it sounds the vocals on this song changed my life.

power of kanye west w/ the 21st century schizoid man sample in a perfume ad before the video. Funny.

LOVE IT!
This is prog's big bang.
where can i find the full performance video? RIP Greg....
In second 0:10, is that Robert Wyatt? looks like him to me....
Thanks for sharing this beautiful video DGM Live / Mr. Fripp.
Ian McDonald, founding member of KC and later of Foreigner.
David Bohnsack Thanks for the answer, but i meant 0:11 sorry, the one who is in the crowd watching the show :)
Maick95 Ah, that guy. I see the resemblance, but I don't think it is him. This guy has more prominent cheek bones.
Just some dude with a beard, I think. This performance must have blown a few minds!
Boz Burrell perhaps?
rip greg
RIP Mr L
poor little hippies. all confused and stuff. seriously, Greg Lake had an incredible voice.
RIP Greg Lake :(
Indeed, Greg Lake will be missed!,,
RIP
more videos of this day please
👍👍👍✌✌✌💚💚💚
Rip lake💎😪😪😪👑🧚♂️
super !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why does Greg Lake's voice change so much when the pulls the mic closer?
because the mic is closer to his face
It's because of the fucked up tapes.
"Proximity Effect"
But at first he sounds like he's just yelling and really grumbly/scratchy and when he pulls it closer, it's smooth and normal.
+Joey Frydrych i think is the voice effect being attivated a little after he starts singing.
RIP Greg Lake
Historic
i got fucking chills
👍💪
Il miglior brano progressive.Lake al meglio.
RIP Ian McDonald
Leg end!
20 Years before my birth.

What happened to the middle solo part?
is the guy who sings " greg Lake?
Yes, the first line-up of King Crimson included Greg Lake on bass guitar and lead vocals.
Yeah !!!! great! i didnt know, Thank You,
no its ferdy mercry
I think we can now dedicate this song to the new President, perhaps?
You should go out more
HOLMBERG Because last time i checked, we were in the 21st century :)
What's that got to do with the President?
of which country
Truncated version?
1:01 Joey Ramone
Not much if anything of Fripp on that clip.
He sees himself as a simple piece of the crimson king's puzzle ?
Comme une éjaculation

*King Crimson Is Borned*...
Diavolo: KING CRIMSON!! I DID NOT KNOW U WERE OLDER THAN ME. BA- BA- BAKADA
That sucked, the clip ended before the climax of the song. Really bad edit.
They've gotta work with what they got, they had almost no film left to work with
Diavolo: jaj
