This was the Dice Tower top 10 list I was waiting for, thanks Mike! 😊 One soloable game I haven't seen Mike mention was Roll Player Adventures. (Tom reviewed it and liked it but I get the impression Mike hasn't played it?) On top of being a pretty solid adventure game with a huge amount of content, the kicker for me is that you can import characters you make when you play a game of Roll Player directly into Roll Player Adventures and every single card in Roll Player has a corresponding unique card in Adventures. Which means I can play a solo game of Roll Player (which is already on its own one of my favorite solo games), take the character I made and then play that same character through Roll Player Adventures, either by themselves or alongside other characters I import. If you're a fan of Roll Player, I definitely think importing the characters into Adventures is the way to go. It takes longer obviously since you're playing a game of Roll Player first, but since Roll Player is a great game that extra time is a benefit, not a burden. One note - while you can definitely play Roll Player Adventures with a single character, the challenges are significantly harder to beat in the first few adventures with only one character's hand available. You do get more cards as you go, and after a few adventures it eases up, but if you're comfortable playing two characters or three characters yourself then you'll have an easier time succeeding at tasks starting out. By the way, I also got the expansion with it which is a massive book of side stories for every possible backstory and alignment characters can have. I really loved doing these side stories, so if you do get Roll Player Adventures then consider splurging for that expansion, it's just fun seeing how the backstories play out. 🙂
Roll Player Adventures is a great production but the gameplay gets rather stale and the balance is pretty poor IMO. Solo games without balance tend to fall a bit flat for a lot of people in the sense that you don't get much satisfaction from solving the puzzle when you succeed every time.
Would you recommend Roll Player or Roll Player Adventures for someone who hasn't played either? I don't have a roll and write in my library and I heard Roll Player was not only a great roll and write, but also a great solo game. However, you are definitely selling me on Roll Player Adventures. Haha. Which would you recommend?

It's maybe the slightly better game mechanically (a little), it's a bit cheaper, and part of the fun for me of Roll Player Adventures is that it ties in to all the things you find in Roll Player. So give Roll Player a shot and, if you really like it and want to try bringing your characters from that into the Adventures, then that could be a good one to follow up.

Imperium Legends has been a surprise hit for me! I am in love with everything about it! And Final Girl.. i got the entire Second season on kickstarter and can’t wait to get it, seeing it as your #1 adds to the hype for me!

Gotta mitigate your luck. Focus & distraction are super important early game (and when the terror creeps back into the white), while planning and improvise are super important cards at certain points in the game! Meanwhile you have to balance this with moving and searching and be sure to get some guard and retaliate cards when the killer starts creeping up on you. I will also use the reroll cards not just for rerolls but to make successes out of 3's and 4's because it is a fairly cheap option for that and it is a guarantee when you have a 3 or 4 rather than a possibility when you reroll.
Final Girl is awesome and definitely my favorite solo game of 2021. It might even make my top 10 list for games in general (definitely all time Top 10 solo experiences).
I was stunned to not see Under Falling Skies in here. Can I just slip that in? Right over there, at number 11? Not to deface your list, Mike, but I'm just going to tack Under Falling Skies on it. I feel like you're okay with that.
I have seen nothing but praise for Final Girl and it really makes me feel like I'm missing out. My only problem is the modular boxes. I am becoming less of a fan of games that "require" me to buy 14 different versions of the same game to really get the most out of it, but it sounds right up my alley so I don't think I'll be able to pass on it much longer.
Am I the only one getting tired of seeing Sleeping Gods in every single list? I'm sure it's a great game but it's impossible to find outside of ebay scalpers. I honestly don't see the point in recommending it when it's effectively nonexistent at retail.

Final Girl is AMAZING!
Final girl is definitely my top solo game of the year as well. Its so tough though! I think I’ve played it a half dozen times now and only won once.

My favorite solo games of the year were Descent Legends of the Dark, Bloodborne the Board Game, and Maquis 2nd Edition

Good question! It was not. I’ve only played it multiplayer so far.
