  • Updating the late 2015 5K Retina iMac from 8GB of RAM to 32GB of RAM. The preocess is VERY simple and only takes a few minutes. The RAM I used to upgrade is Crucial DDR3L-1600 SODIMM. I have used Crucial in the past with my macbook pro and have been very happy with the pricing and results. Get the RAM here: goo.gl/gdyRcw

    Hi yeah a major curiosity in watching why did you use ddr3l-1600 spec rather than the ddr3l-1866 memory? I have the model just above yours the 3.3ghz i5 skylake with 2TB fusion drive amd r9 m395 from crucial and boom kernel panicked and crashes. Also I noticed you did something right at the end where you pushed the machine out and swung back in and it clicked, what was that all about? Never seen that anywhere else. Any help would be appreciated.

    Great video , many thanks, one question if you have the time, can this late 2015 imac 27 inch take 64 gig ? I heard that unofficially it can but I don't want to go to the expense if it is sitting idle and doing nothing . I'd appreciate it if you could let me know. Thanks

    Mine is a late 2015 and doesn't have that cover on the back.
    Edit: mine is a 21 inch where yours is a 27 inch.

    On my mac it says that the ram I have is 1867mhz - DDR3 so maybe 1866 or 1600 can work too?

    I added a 16 gb kit to mine that was 1600mhz and notice no slow downs at all

    I have the same mac and I just installed the same memory from Crucial DDR3L 1867Mhz. It’s booting for the 4th time with Apple logo and the progress bar complets then again.
    I’m not sure if the memory is initializing or something is wrong? On the apple support site it says it takes about 30 sec to initialize and I don’t remember it taking this long on my MacBook pro.

    I just increased ram from 8 GB to 32 GB from OWC on my Late 2015 and now it’s slower. I installed the correct ram as suggested by OWC. My iMac registers the 32 GB. After booting up, it goes to a black screen for as long as it takes to boot, then once the display comes on, all apps take even longer to load. Anyone else experience this?

    Why did you go for 1600MHz instead of 1867MHz? Think that might actually be noticeable slower...

      @nr6664 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah have you really checked beyond just the screen that says the dimms are OK? I would really suggest actually checking the system logs and so on to make sure you don't have any errors or aren't having kernel panic's

      Also what model iMac were you using? I had major major issues after crucial 8GBX4

      @GuidoHendriks1990 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathaniel Roche I haven't checked any diagnostics. I used it for quite a while now without any freezes or crashes. So that indicates it works just fine.

      Hector that's actually a great question. On the new iMacs people either get the upgrade to work or the machine fails. Have you had any good experiences?

      Keep your old RAMA in drawer but for existing RAM if you keep it there you get more memory available for your system? Hope that makes a sense.
