    Great video!
    Your channel has helped me immensely, I’ve been interested in getting into blacksmithing for years now but it seemed so daunting that I never got serious about it but you vids have showed me I don’t need thousands of dollars to start. I’m currently building a Forge similar to your charcoal grill one and I’ve picked up some of the basic tools I need like files a hammer and a grinder.
    Thanks for your work!

    a lot of people criticize using scrap and unknown steel, i enjoy using railroad spikes and lawnmower blades because my dad gives me old lawnmower blades for free and i have a guy who gives me barely deformed RR spikes. they certainly dont hold an edge well but i still prefer using/maintaining them than buying knives for cost to performance. i choose free knife that i have to sharpen often over expensive knife that i never need to touch. i enjoy working on knives.

    I don’t know why I like the look of crude blades more then some of the expensive and beautiful looking one’s

    Very nice. Great commentary and loving the simplicity of the knife

    Don't force the grinder ever and it will not kick back. This goes for all power tools. Hold firm and steady, don't force, just let it do it's work.

    On that 1x30 I use the platen cause it keeps the line more even. But that’s just me. Everyone like you say has to find that feel for doing everything.

    Amazing video 👍 It's amazing that you have 0 disklikes on any of your videos. Maybe you can do a outdoor knife from high carbon steel if you want 😊

    Hi, excellent video, I have a question, can you put a bevel on a knife using a bench grinder?

    • @adamwill5223
      @adamwill5223 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It'll be rough. Since the bench grinder has round wheels, as opposed to a belt sander that has a flat surface. You'll get a rounded bevel

      pyrotech1999 Thanks! Yep, The handle definitely works on the style of knife. Really adds to the grungy, urban, apocalypse feel.

  • @chaosvolt

    I feel like trying to use a part of the blade that's already sharpened would be more fitting, if one could find a blade that's got at least slightly closer to a flat profile for the ends.

    • @TIMEtoRIDE900
      @TIMEtoRIDE900 ปีที่แล้ว

      Start with a blade that's not all twisted up like a commercial lawn service blade - they are mostly flat and thicker.

    Is this, or could it be made food safe?

  • @ChuckSpringfield
    @ChuckSpringfield 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you flip the grinder over so the sparks shoot down you'll have less probability of sparks going towards your face/eyes and if the blade does decide to snag and jump it won't come towards you

    You might be able to grind that bevel easily by standing the blade on end.

    i think every knife maker of any skill bleeds on their blades, lol, i know i have...having a angle grinder kick and bite into my palm was the worst, thank God it was hot enough to sear the skin so i didn't bleed a whole lot....that taught me volumes about safety

      Isaac.J Gilpatric I’m actually using two of them now. I have a cheap one that I got from Harbor freight, and a Black & Decker it’s a very popular one on Amazon. The Black & Decker is usually under $30, I’m testing it, planning to do a review at some point. Seems to be holding up well so far.

      FargoFX Cool. I personally bought one for almost 30$ at Walmart. But I have only used it for wood working. But soon it will be used for blade making.

      tristan barnett I love lawn mower blades, very tough steel, soft enough to work with, but definitely hardenable. Also usually pretty cheap.

    Please learn to use an angle grinder properly, the way you're holding it isn't safe, the sparks has to be thrown down, not up towards your face, and never remove the guard
    Nice little knife by the way
    Be safe, keep the good videos ;)
