And Grant did not come over to help you on your farm today. I am not surprised that you accomplished a very stressful management day. Crisis averted; hired the neighbor to finish the work; and tended to the pivots. Great natural farmer you are Laura.

    You go girl!!!
You are truly a good problem solver.
Days like that on the farm are a
strong testament to the upbringing that you received from your elders.
I feel that being raised on a farm gives one a real appreciation for a lot of different values.
A lot of people today are clueless as to what it takes to do what you do. And how you can plan your day but yet be able to go with the flow and still get the job done 👍

I started work again for the farmer I've been working for during potato harvest for the past 8 years. I am moving equipment around on a 4 axle lowboy. Today I moved a sweeper from one of their construction sites over to the home place so they can start getting ready to do pavement around the offices. Then I hauled a vibrating roller over to one of the storages so they can roll the inside of the storage to flatten it out before they start putting potatoes in it.

Laura, you are amazing. A big complement from your dad to leave you in charge of everything. He needed to go on this trip, and you allowed him to go knowing the farm was in safe hands. And for somebody to get a pivot working by just thinking about it, takes some doing.

You keep at it and one day without you knowing it people are coming to you for advice and actual help. Self esteem can't be given to you. It's so uplifting to see it growing in someone else. Peace.

Also when you are towing with anything but especially when you’re towing with chains which can break unexpectedly put a coat or blanket on the chain so if it breaks they will help make the chain fall to the ground rather than flying through the air.

In most situations when multiple people are responsible for the outcome, rarely is the person who claims they are in charge, are the ones doing the most to help fix the situation. But You did the best, let those with thee most experience do their jobs and know when to stay out of their way. Kudos to You!!!!!!

You got the skills Laura, this was a good confidence builder for you. You have a excellent teacher team, your dad, your grandpa, Grant, and your neighbors. There is nothing wrong with running your ideas or your plan to accomplish any task by someone to get their input. That is how you learn when someone tells you that is how they would do it or suggest just one little change. And it is how you earn respect in your industry.
I’ve been in the aviation maintenance and inspection industry for fifty years and have employed many newly FAA CERTIFICATED MECHANICS and told each of them basically the same advice. Your doing great.👌👌👌👍👍👍. 😎

Great job, Laura. When I was 14, (I am a "city" boy), I was working on my uncles farm in the panhandle of Texas, "knifing" cotton plants . All of a sudden, my tractor started losing power and started making a TERRIBLE noise. In short, the oil pump had stopped working and the entire engine had to be rebuilt. I FELT TERRIBLE. I am guessing that is what happened to your machine. DO NOT FEEL BAD, it was NOT your fault. It is a machine and these things happen.
Finally, please know that your viewing public is in awe of what you do hence your confidence should be off the charts! You are the BEST. I know your dad and your husband are proud of you, so are we. God Bless You. Keep up the good work and don't sweat the small stuff. And ALL THE STUFF IS SMALL!

Talk about leaving equipment on the field ... About 50 years ago, as a teenager, I was mowing hay with a single mowing bar on a neighbor's farm. Everything was going fine until it wasn't as the saying goes. Suddenly, the mowing bar hung up and just stopped. I stopped the tractor and lifted the bar. At the end of the bar was a skunk that was not at all happy. Yep, I quickly abandoned that tractor, at least for awhile, until the skunk settled down. I wasn't about to get clobbered at point blank range.

That said, you're gonna be farming for a long time....What I learned during my 42 year career running heavy equipment in freeway traffic every hour of the day and night is that you do not sacrifice your health and well being for what you're trying to accomplish!! EVER!! It will come back to haunt you!! I understand you have goals and deadlines to meet and I am not saying to disregard them at all. What I am saying is that you need to take care of yourself always or you aren't gonna be available to meet those deadlines and other things will happen that you don't want to happen.....your husband needs you, your family needs you, your farms need you and America needs you!! Your dad left the farm in very capable hands and its great that he was able to participate in your siblings college visits. i always told my apprentice's "come up with 3 ways to fix the problem before you even start, pick the best of the 3 and start there, and the 3rd idea can be off the wall and/or crazy sounding" you would be amazed at how many times some part of the "3rd" idea ends up incorporated into the fix. don't give up and keep on truck'en that's the secret. Great Vid!!

Laura, your father will be very proud of you! Remember if he didn't think you could handle it, he wouldn't have left you in charge! Great job!
