    Great video. I missed Fujiya on my Japan trip. Will check them out next time. How did you find their prices on used lenses and cameras? Some places I went to had great deals, while others were laughably insane.

      Thanks for dropping by the channel and watching this video! Yeah, I would say Fujiya is the most competitively priced place in town. They don't have a point card system so they can make the prices a little lower. And sometimes there are some real deals. Can't really make any promises you'd get a discount, but if you ask for Kubo san, and tell him you know Brian from Photohoku and beyond, you'll at least get some friendly service! Hope to meet when you come to Tokyo next!!

    You've opened up a can of worms with this video lol. Tokyo has many great camera shops. I like Fujiya and used to go there quite often. I prefer Map Camera in Shinjuku.

      Thanks for the comment. Yeah, hard to say which is the best, they're all amazing. But Fujiya, last time I checked, doesn't have a point-card system, which is maybe one reason can can offer even slightly lowered prices than Map can. But Map and Fujiya kinda have a completely different lineup of cameras. But yes, Map is also amazing. Greetings from Suginami-Ku :-)

    I love Fujiya. Plenty of kind and helpful staff and they basically have everything in stock and lots of used gear. I've bought several things from the main shop, and tons of stuff from the junk shop. I love looking through the junk shop for working film cameras that just need a little love.

      Yeah, me too! Love Fuji. Next time you are in there ask for Kubo san. I think he's working in the newer video side these days, maybe upstair but they all shift around. He doesn't speak English but he is a really cool guy and knows about everything. He's personally into Nikon SL rangedfinder cameras and also Kiev cameras - funny guy and very knowledgable and kind. And yes, the junk shop is great! I've bought tons of random parts there. Great place for a dig. I think my favorite though is actually the tripod/studio area. I can geek our for hours looking at various little gizmos to add to a dream studio. Thanks for the comment :-)

      Thanks @dinogirrl1! That is high praise to be compared to such a legend. I grew up on Mr. Rogers. Maybe it's still in me :-) The background music was first, and for a half hour I went looking for some license free music but came up empty handed and just found something that was in the iMovie basic library haha, and looped it 10 times. I have to admit, it's not great but it's not bad and your comment and feedback really confirms I should do it again. Thanks for dropping by! Hello from Tokyo!

    The Japanese Yashica Mat 124G and the Bronica SQAi are two of my favorites. I’m curious what the prices are like in Japan for those

    • @tokyorecordstyle
      @tokyorecordstyle  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Looks like the Yashica Mat 124G is in the ¥60,000 price range in Japan.
      jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=Yashica%20Mat%20124G&status=on_sale
      And it looks like the Bronica SQ Ai is in the ¥70,000 rands

      Prices are probably the same at the shops. If I come across them in the wild, I can let you know.

    I love Fujiya as well. Got some great deals on Zeiss M mount lenses there. All their prices were fair in the upstairs film camera section. I'm excited to be back next month! Great video.

    Hey mate great tour! Would you recommend buying a 2nd hand film camera at Fujiya? Did you recall seeing many options in particular any yashica t4s or olympus mju ii by any chance? I'm heading to tokyo soon and looking for these particular models for a good price. any help would be great thanks!

      Hi there! Thanks for the comment and for dropping by the channel. I would definitely recommend buying a camera from Fujiya, but there is no camera shop I wouldn't recommend. Cameras come and go every morning in these shops, in fact, there is a line of people at Fujiya every single morning waiting to see the new inventory, and becuase I'm not really in the camera shops so much these days so I can't really say confidently where you might look, though if you go to Shinjuku, or Ginza, or Ueno, or some of the main city centers, you can hit 10+ camera shops all within a stone throw of eachother, so I'm sure you can find what you are looking for so long as you can get to every one of the shops. Prices don't really vary HUGELY across the shops, and of course it all depends on condition, but Fujiya is generally known as one of the cheapest in town. If you are visiting from overseas, you should mention that and you might not have to pay taxes. Good luck!
