O M G!!!!!! THANK YOU!! SO SIMPLE! So easy... and I LOVE how you teach, Straight and to the point without a bunch of fluff! You have won MY business! Thank you!
THANK YOU! I have watched NUMEROUS complicated videos on sky replacement~ I am a real estate photographer and want REALISTIC...your video is FABULOUS...so appreciated, simple and to the point! Love it!!
This is the best video on this subject among the more than a dozen that I have watched Excellent and concise instruction regardless of whether you are use Elements or the latest version of PS.
Seriously!! Morgan you are the BEST!!! I am a big you tube "tutorial" follower ...You are awesome! ... easy to understand, follow and learn, so simple.. you ROCK! I will be a faithful follower! Thank you so much, so refreshing to find you!
Morgan, your tutorials are awesome, but the audio is hared to hear. Are you using an external microphone or the built in mic? Please consider using an external mic if you are not currently so your directions can be better understood.
Thank you so much for watching and for the feedback! So sorry it's hard to hear on your end. I got a few other comments about audio quality too, so that's definitely something I've been working on.
Great tutorial! Question, when I tried to paint black over the subjects to erase the sky pattern it was literal black markings ... how do I avoid this ?
Thanks, Audrey! Great question. That means your image thumbnail is selected instead of the layer mask. In your layers panel, click your layer mask to select it and then give the painting another try and it should work. If for some reason it doesn't, feel free to send me a screenshot to morgan@morganburks.com and I can take a look for you.
Can you do this on multiple photos? How could I maybe add the sky I just did to a photo that is a tad different but still needs the same editing done to it?
Great question, Kelsi! So yes, you can definitely repeat these steps on multiple photos. You can also use your Move tool to drag your Sky layer with the layer mask over to another photo. You'll most likely need to tweak the layer mask a bit to suit the new photo, but it can definitely help speed up the application process when you're working with multiple photos that need similar editing.
When the instructions are quickly given such as "you can always grab a soft brush." where is this located and what is the setting so this brush. It seems effortless when you are doing in but sadly in a parallel universe what happens on my screen is completely different.
Hi Julian, so sorry for any confusion! "Grabbing a soft brush" means selecting your Brush tool from your tools panel, and then setting the Hardness of the brush to 0 (this ensures the edges of that brush are soft and subtle when painting on your image). To adjust the Hardness: after selecting the Brush Tool, click the downward pointing arrow next to the Brush Icon at the top of your screen, and you'll find the Brush 'Hardness' setting just below the Brush 'Size' setting. I hope this helps! If you have any trouble, don't hesitate to get in touch. You can reach me at morgan@morganburks.com for the fastest reply
So sorry you're having trouble! I'd be happy to help. Would you mind sending me a screen shot so I can take a look at what's going on? morgan@morganburks.com
Hi Sarah, I'm not sure I'm understanding fully what you mean. Are you talking about being able to go to File > Place to find your photo? Or are you talking about some type of location tagging like FB has? Sorry if this is a silly question, just want to make sure I understand what you're asking so I can help.
Hey there! I'd be happy to help figure out the problem! Would you minding emailing me a full screen shot to morgan@morganburks.com? I can take a look and see if I notice any settings or issues that might be causing the trouble.
Hi Tim, Thanks so much for watching! I have a separate video that discusses sky blurring. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/oc37BTW2AC8/w-d-xo.html
That's true. This method works best for applying skies where the original sky is overblown or overcast. Sky replacements, however, require a bit of extra work. For sky replacements, you can first brighten or paint with white over your current sky in order for Multiply blend mode to work best. Or, you can keep the sky overlay in Normal blend mode instead of Multiply, so that the new sky covers the current one.
You, by far, have the most perfect explanation of sky replacement ever, better than anyone else on the internet. Thanks so much
Thanks so much, Anne! That's very kind of you to say. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!

How to I erase the overlay without erasing to much off the actual picture?
Great question, Mike! I've found that the closer you zoom in and the smaller of a brush you use, the more precision you'll get when masking.
Amazing
Thank you!
Do you know where I save the photos so that photoshop will identify them as "places"?

hi there everything went perfect.. except when I painted over faces they actually turned tined like grey? please help!

I love your tutorial. But you forgot to show how to blurry the background if the background is not in focus
Hi Tim, Thanks so much for watching! I have a separate video that discusses sky blurring. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/oc37BTW2AC8/w-d-xo.html
My skies are rarely white and multiply mode will not work correctly for this method if you have a blue sky or a sky with other clouds in it.
That's true. This method works best for applying skies where the original sky is overblown or overcast. Sky replacements, however, require a bit of extra work. For sky replacements, you can first brighten or paint with white over your current sky in order for Multiply blend mode to work best. Asgardcore If there are clouds in it,try using Soft light mode. It may help!
Thumbs up.
