Hopefully she gets some of the solo work. I'd love her to see the difference between Too Much Love will Kill you from Bri and Fromm Queen. I prefer Bri's version, because it was HIS feelings. The Queen version is amazing, and is associated with Freddie's passing, but is not about that.

I was EXTREMELY fortunate as I was at the Knebworth Park (Festival) concert. Little did we know at the time, that it would be Freddie's final show with them. Truly memorable. Supporting them were Status Quo, Big Country and Belouis Some. The tickets were a mere £14.50! :-o I still have mine stuck in the tour programme. The T-shirt no longer fits sadly ;-)

Brian has said in interviews that the band had quite the knack for this sort of music, and while they didn't have a movement in mind, they were well aware that they were writing an anthem, something powerful that people could sing. _We Will Rock You_ was another where they knew they were writing an anthem...just not whether anyone would adopt it.

In 1989, they still could deliver a rocker, it's a shame Freddie was ill at this point, as this
could have been a major set piece in their live show, it was designed for the stage. Roger Daltrey sang this at the Mercury Phoenix tribute in 1992. I love the tempo shift near the end.

  • @stewartstafford
    @stewartstafford 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

The title "I Want It All" came from Brian's then-girlfriend (now wife) Anita Dobson at Queen's 1986 Wembley show. She was a big deal at the time playing Angie Watts on a hugely-popular BBC soap opera called Eastenders. When the Wembley crowd saw her moving to her seat, they gave her a big cheer. She jokingly said to Brian May: "I want this! I want it all and I want it now!" It stuck in Brian's head and he wrote a song of the same name that he said was specifically-designed to be performed live. He said it was one of his big regrets that Freddie never got to do that. You can hear how the ascending I Want It Alls in the the song mirror the ascending "Ay-oh" scales Freddie got the crowd to sing with him at Live Aid.

Speaking about performing this song at Mercury Tribute Concert with Tony Iommi (from Black Sabbath).
Tony Iommi performed many songs at that tribute with Queen. As I remember, he was the most "envolved" guest musician at that concert (maybe except David Bowie).
That's because Brian May is a friend of Tony Iommi and a huge fan of his guitar (and vice versa). May considers Iommy as "the true father of heavy metal" and describes him as "a man of great power and presence, as befits a giant riffmeister".
I could be wrong but it seems that Tony is the closest Brian's mate from guitar world. They used to hang out together for decades and they still do it.
Amy reviewed only one Black Sabbath's song as I remember.
Since Amy highly appreciate Brian probably his shiny persona could induce Amy to give a bit more attention to Tony Iommi and his band too?

I personally think that on a lot of Queen songs Brian May reigns in his guitar a little to allow Freddie Mercury's vocals to be at the forefront. This is one song where Brian May doesn't hold back. A good example is the call-and-response between the vocals and the guitar throughout the song, something I don't believe I've heard on a Queen song before, and the explosive solos.

I taped the first time I heard it on a local radio station when they debuted it (and still have it lol). I remember thinking that if this song was any indication of the whole album, it would get them back in good graces with the US audience. Unfortunately, we got more sugar than substance (Scandal/Was It All Worth It?/My Baby Does Me are the only others worth listening to more than once). I'm glad this wasn't Freddie's final full album.

This song could also be interpreted as a band who has a lead singer who is dying. A lead singer who is fighting for his life and is determined to defeat his illness through will. 'Move out of my way.' 'Give me what is mine' .. is his life. "So much to do in one life time" .. the clock is ticking.
Its not a song about any particular group, social or otherwise, but an anthem of an individual who embraces his fight to win. Perhaps anyone who is hit with a serious illness and facing death.

This was called to be an absolute anthem rock stadium if Freddie would has had the chance that never had. The "WWRY" of the 80's. The song is pure power and fire. But musically is not specially rich, apart from the guitar gorgeus concert. I think specially in "The Miracle" and " Innuendo" some songs are related to others. This song would be in the "yes we could kill" category in "Was it all worth it". And as many other say, you should listen to this song, a master resume of Queen's career in their own words.

At the end of the middle eight, Brian and Freddie sing, "and I'm giving it all", which is an interesting contrast to all of the demanding, threatening, and taking going on throughout most of the song. I wonder, does it mean giving as in sharing with others, or does it mean giving as in giving all of one's effort to an endeavor-- not holding anything back.

Anita Dobson is Brian’s wife. Brian was having an affair with her and left his first wife for her. The rather famous quote ‘ I want it all’ is attributed to Anita when she wanted Brian to leave his wife for her … which he finally did and the rest is history.

This version of this song is the cutted one. In the real version it start with a wonderful guitar intro and in the middle too there is a longer guitar part.. Cutted because of industrial iussue this song has been inspired by the wife of Brian that, during a party, says to Brian 'i want it all' in an alchoolic conversation about i don't know what. About their rock way of doing music, it's one of their best song. Very well organized duet between the raspy Freddie's voice and the hard guitar mode. I love this song. About this album, a very nice song in my opinion is 'Rain must fall' by Jhon Deacon, witch is a real 'must hear'..

This was the only really angry song I've heard from Queen. We Will Rock You is just as aggressive but it isn't angry. This piece was simply angry and I wonder how much of the anger of the song stemmed from Freddy's situation.

Nothing stemmed from Freddie's situation because he didn't write the song and it has a very clear topic that also is completely removed from his situation.
It's a song by someone who has outgrown that phase of his life and is now able to write about it from a distance.

Gimme The Prize is also quite aggressive. I Want It All, is purely a Brian May song. Freddie only really wrote very inspirational songs once he found out he had Aids. In songs such as Don't Try So Hard he is trying to give people some guidance. In songs such as The Miracle and A Winter's tale he describes the beauty of the world. But to be fair Freddie's music always tended to be more joyful and playful then most.

as an amateur guitarist (technically mediocre)...on my mental shelf I have grouped 3 Brian May songs that begin in Bm..."Sail Sweet..."-"The Show..." and "I want it all" ....also it seems to me that the fast part I find the rhythm very similar to "Sweet Lady"

I Want It All (The eYe Version 2) 4:53
    Written by Queen
    Appears on: Queen: The eYe
From the Electronic Arts videogame, Queen: The eYe. Another full instrumental version, again starting just a second late into the track. The first 10 or so seconds is looped a second time with a synthesizer effect added to blend them together.
    Thank you.

It has nothing to do with apartheid or any other political movement. Brian heard an actress exclaim "I want it all" in a conversation and he admired her for it and it inspired this song. He had an affair with this actress and ended up divorcing his wife and marrying her later. This drama then inspired the song Too much love will kill you.
