    That was really helpful. I've just switched to Capacities after watching your videos and I was confused about sets. I had to add everything in tags, even if I were to chose just ratings, I'd still have to navigate through all of the tags. It really helped me a lot.

    How did you add those action buttons to your Daily page at 7:04 in the video? All I see is "+Task", but you have a bunch more. Thanks for the video!

    • @PKM_Beth

      No worries! Any object that has a date time property will have a quick add button on the daily note. So you just need to add one of those properties in for every object (or as needed!)

      @@PKM_Beth Got it, thanks! I played around with it and I see now how clicking one of those buttons creates a new object and auto-fills in the first Date time property with today's date. Neat!

    I had taken your course but have had problems accessing it at times. Over the last few months I haven’t been using capacities, experimenting with Logseq and Tana. Despite what I perceive to the advantages of these other apps, I am beginning to appreciate Capacities more and intend to go back to it. I feel I need to retrain, but since your course is not expensive I’m just going to go ahead and repurchase it. I do have one issue that I’d like to clarify. I like to start entering daily notes in the journal, linking to other pages, people, projects, etc. When I enter notes in the Daily Journal, I want discrete entries to only link to a particular related note/link. I don’t want everything in the daily note link to all pages related in the Daily Journal. If I write a note in the Daily Journal relating to [[Smith v Jones]], I only want to see that part of the Daily Journal related to smith v Jones.

    • @PKM_Beth
      @PKM_Beth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Howard! No need to repurchase- if you send me an email at beth@pkmbeth.com we'll get your access sorted! Regarding the daily note, I think an option could be using a toggle ("> space" will create one) and then linking the Smith v Jones page, then write your entry in that toggle. It's still part of the daily note, but it's a distinct section, and when you open the Smith v Jones page and look at the backlinks, it'll just show you that block from that specific daily note, rather than embedding the whole daily note.

    Something I can't wrap my head around - and therefore struggle to get started with Capacities - is multi-level connections. Something like the below. How would you go about creating those kinds of connections?
    Food
    >Fruit
    >>Strawberry
    >>Orange
    >Veg
    >>Cabbage
    >>Brocolli
    >>Potato
    >Sundries
    >>Salt
    >>Black Pepper

    In Notion when you create a relation it lets you choose to include the reverse relation automatically. e.g., if I make a relation Person is 'author of' a Book, it can automatically make a 'authored by' relation from Book to Person. Is there any way to do that in Capacities?

    Wondering if anyone has an insight on how to do something in Capacities. I have a space called Music, which mostly tracks bands and albums. I had expected to be able to - within a band page - have a query that return all Albums for that band. Where the Band name is one of the properties for the album. But, Capacities doesn't seem to support this....or am I missing something?
    Thanks in advance if you know of a solution.

    • @PKM_Beth
      @PKM_Beth  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, would a simple multiselect property work between the band and album object? Then when you open a band page, the list of albums you've assigned to them will be at the top of the page in the property section. If you open one album, it'll have a backlink to the band. From what you've said that seems to achieve the goal of seeing all albums related to that band. Smart queries are coming soon though which will open up new possibilities.

      @@PKM_Beth Hello Beth, thanks for the response. I'm looking for something like Smart Queries, where I don't have manually update the relationship. Hopefully SQs will also let you select additional properties to display in the resuts :)

    Thanks, Beth very helpful as always. One question, why are you using tags for the media types instead of order them into collections?

    • @PKM_Beth
      @PKM_Beth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Judith! I have two reasons
      1) I try to base my academic research on representations of a variety of themes across different media types (e.g how is x represented in this specific set of films) so I need to take notes on films, documentaries, autobiographies etc as genres, so the tag unites these notes with the actual media consumed, and then the habit of media type as tags has transcended into other spaces too.
      2) I have found it easier to fill in properties all together but I tend to retrospectively add to collections as I forget when adding pages.. just what works for my brain it seems!

    Really helpful, thank you! How would you compare Capacities with Tana? :)

    • @PKM_Beth
      @PKM_Beth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I haven't worked out how to articulate the comparison in depth yet, but I can say from use that I think people will either like Tana's outliner/"everything is a node"/things can have multiple supertags approach, or Capacities' object approach with a more freeflowing structure within the pages. Tana also has super powerful queries which Capacities doesn't have rn. I personally prefer Capacities' aesthetics though, I find Tana a bit busy. Personal preference as always!

  • @fredclough7817

    Very helpful. A question though. How do you go about setting up the star rating exactly. First by creating a Property entitled "Rating" and then by creating five separate tags? How do you get the one star, two star etc to appear though? I haven't quite figured that bit out. Thanks in advance.

    • @PKM_Beth
      @PKM_Beth  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So it's a single select fixed set between my media object type and my tag object type called rating.
      I set that up first, then open the table view of the media property.
      There, I click on the rating property, and you can create the tags there and then by pasting ⭐️ as many times as you need. Press enter after you've got the right number of stars. This creates the tag and assigns it to the rating property all at once. Repeat for the other ratings. Each new tag will replace the previous as we've set it to be a single select, but that's fine, this is just the set up.
      You can use the ratings tag across any object type too.
      Hope that helps!

    • @fredclough7817
      @fredclough7817 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, @@PKM_Beth. After submitting the question to you, I started muddling my way through and essentially arrived at something similar. The only "extra" steps I had added were to then go to my Tags section and then assign each to the collection "Rating". I then went back into the Object Properties setting for "Rating" under my Media type and re-ordered them in the Fixed Set box (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) as it makes for a more tidy presentation when you go to actually use the rating later on. Cheers.
