  • Engine 234 is quartered with 123 Truck and the 38 Battalion on Saint John’s Place in Crown Heights Brooklyn New York. Originally Engine 234 was quartered at 1472 Bergen Street where Rescue 2 used to be quartered as well. From 1893-1979 Engine 234 lived at 1472 Bergen Street, during that time in 1925 Rescue 2 was organized and Rescue 2 was originally quartered at 160 Carlton Avenue where Engine 210 is now. From 1925-1929 Rescue 2 lived at 160 Carlton Avenue then moved to 365 Jay Street in Downtown Brooklyn when the building was originally part of the Brooklyn Fire Department. From 1929-1946 Rescue 2 lived at 365 Jay Street. Then from 1946-1985 Rescue 2 was back at 160 Carlton Avenue, being requartered with Engine 210. Engine 210 started as a volunteer company September 15th 1869 at 160 Carlton Avenue. On January 28th 1898 the Brooklyn Fire Department became the FDNY and so the volunteer company became FDNY Engine 10 until 1899. On October 1st 1899 Engine 10 was changed to Engine 110 and relocated to 189 Vanderbilt Avenue on April 5th 1912. On January 1st 1913 Engine 110 was renumbered to Engine 210 and moved back into 160 Carlton Avenue on October 7th 1913 which was 6 days later. When Rescue 2 became a second unit in that same firehouse 210 is at the chauffeur of Engine 210 had to get up and move the engine to let the rescue out to respond and it was a pain in the ass. But they didn’t have to deal with that anymore when Rescue 2 moved to 1472 Bergen Street in 1985. From 1979-1985, 1472 Bergen Street was just empty and abandoned but they were able to open it up again in ‘85. On December 16th 1960 Rescue 2 got a call to an aviation collision in Parkslope and they responded but not only 3 days later on December 19th 1960 they get turned out to the USS Constillation Aircraft Carrier and this called all 5 rescue companies and more than 1000 firemen at the ship to rescue the 300+ workers that were doing construction on the ship when an explosion occurred. On February 26th 1993 Rescue 2 got turned out to a large call at the Twin Towers for a bombing in the underground parking garage. 8 years later on September 11th 2001 Rescue 2 gets turned out for a major fire at the Twin Towers again and it was in the towers not in the parking garage this time, 2 aircrafts had been slammed deliberately into the towers by Alqueda terrorists and a number of members from Rescues 1-5 died in the collapse of both towers including all their other colleagues in the 343 firefighters killed on September 11th 2001. Many firemen worked at Ground Zero on the pile for 8 months and then the whole site was rebuilt. Rescue 2 not only covers Brooklyn and Manhattan but sometimes goes tl Staten Island, The Bronx, and Queens. In the summer of 2001 Rescue 2 responded to a massive medical emergency in a rough part of Brooklyn for a 51 year old man whom was 600+lbs having difficulty breathing. They dragged him out of his apartment onto the elevator and outside onto a pair of stretchers and into a non-FDNY ambulance to be taken to Kings County Hospital. He went into cardiac arrest twice and underwent over an hour of CPR. He later died in the hospital because of his weight and his inability to breathe. They also got turned out for a transit building fire with Battalion 57. They got turned out to a brownstone fire even a commercial garage with combustibles in it. There were many calls they responded to before 9/11. They were also turned out for an auto accident with people pinned and needed to be extricated.
