Agreed. I was curious if he had drawn into something to play instead, such as a 3 drop artifact, but I never saw anything that he could've drawn turn 1 to not end with 3black and 2 generic being a better option
10:45 There is a misplay here. The discard ability of Skirge Familiar is a mana ability, therefor cannot be responded to. Edit: This doesn't affect the outcome of the game.
The opening hand for Vilis really sums up a Mono Black deck. There are cards for ramp, card draw, ways to lose life, and a card that wants you to go above 50 life. Whatever you want to do, Mono Black lets you do it... for a price.
When Vilis blocked the token, it would have been possible to kill Vilis by using the Mimic Vat (and Pridemage token it'd create) to blow up the Greaves, allowing Vilis to be finished off by the Omnath trigger. I'm surprised they didn't go for it when letting a monoB player untap with Vilis is a stupid amount of value even if he doesn't win the game then and there. Plus, having tapped out to cast him, it wouldn't be possible to recast him before two turn cycles.
here's my gonti list please keep in mind that i have'nt updated the list for over 1 year now though: tappedout.net/mtg-decks/whats-yours-is-actually-mine/?cb=1603397153
As a mono black player I can say is not a bad strategy to have half your lands be snow covered and the other half regular basics because some player love to blow all your swamps and if you have half and half you are kind off protected (at least don't lose all or the majority of your lands).
@@lunarmathemagics7881 Ashaya makes your creatures into lands, so when a token is created, it's also a landfall trigger. Where Ancients Tread then lets you deal 5 damage ad infinitum.
Jamieson actually had the misplay of the century with his opening hand. T1 sol ring (which immediately got blown up) instead of cracking myriad landscape T2
MTG Muddstah no I’m saying he should’ve played Myriad T1, so when it untap T2 he can play swamp->sol ring-> crack myriad. Still can draw out the nature’s claim but at least he gets to use the ring
As soon as Vilis came out I immediately made a deck for him and eventually made him so powerful that I basically only play him when everybody is prepared for it because he's seen as one of my more powerful decks .
I have one too, but I never thought to be a skirge familiar in it. Kozilek, the Great Distortion is actually a powerhouse in the deck thanks to how many cards I can draw. And Ugin, the 6 drop and the 8 drop are must haves.
Vills player’s turn one should have been myriad landscape, turn 2 swamp sol ring activate myriad at instant speed in response to removal. I don’t know why this made me so mad lol
I've been getting a lot of hate for supporting a card I think can be good but others think it is always bad. The card is Temple of the False God. I know, it can sometimes be a dead card, but I feel like in a land heavy deck it makes perfect sense. If someone is playing a land heavy deck and they get Mana screwed because of Temple of the False God it probably means they did not Mulligan properly right? Like, if you run 37+ lands and you don't have 5 by turn 5 you should have not kept your opening hand. I've been playing commander since 2014 and Temple of the False God has almost never failed me. Maybe I'm just good at mulliganing around it. What do you guys think?
Temple is really really REALLY bad. The one extra mana is barely ever relevant by the time it comes online and more often than not you're stuck with a dead land not producing anything. And it's not just about mulligans. Drawing it as your fourth land is pretty bad too.
Major misplay. Skirge Familiar is a mana ability so you cannot respond to it. Qasili token couldn’t have been made and blown up Aetherflux until after priority was passed
That's actually not quite right. If you look at the ruling on Exsanguinate, you'll see you can lose more than you have and an opponent can gain it: "1/1/2011: Players can lose more life than they have. For example, say you’re playing a multiplayer game in which one of your opponents has 3 life and your other opponent has 10 life. If you cast Exsanguinate with X of 4, your opponents will wind up at -1 life and 6 life, respectively. You’ll gain 8 life."
Myriad landscape first on turn one. Then play sol ring turn 2, to be able to crack the myriad. It was a mistake to put out sol ring first.
i really thought how i would start with this hand. But yes this would have been my go
Agreed. I was curious if he had drawn into something to play instead, such as a 3 drop artifact, but I never saw anything that he could've drawn turn 1 to not end with 3black and 2 generic being a better option
I was about to comment the same thing
No, because he might’ve top decked something that he could’ve played for 4 mana. He made the right play.
When Andrew realizes he can spare himself a lot of "hey, commanders now trigger upon death" comments by warning everyone that the game is old. :P

As a Vilis player myself I saw Skirge Familiar hit the field and no one removing it and knew it was over.
I DON'T play Vilis, but I had the same thought 😂😭
I like how Gaddock teeg goes to a command zone when he isn't a commander. Other than that, good job with your content.
christian miller not to mention going to another player besides Its owners command zone XD
Meanwhile Gonti doesn't seem to go anywhere

I wonder when were actually gonna have to specify which omnath somebody is playing
Probably after the inevitable release of the 5 color one
Plot twist, after Omnath goes colorless and becomes an Eldrazi titan
@@ryanmurray6269 thank goodness

Is there a link for that vilis decklist? That was super cool

The list is most likely newer than when this game released but still. I'll give it to Andrew so he can add it
3:55 Hammer of Purphoros is an enchantment too. Miguel could have sacked it instead of the Where Ancients Tread
I await the coming set for all the content.
You can't respond to Skirge Familiar activation because it is mana ability.
Not important in this game, but it might be in future)
Yup. My thoughts exactly
Woah a boku no hero academia playmat. That looks pretty epic. Where'd ya get it or was it custom?
always with the godly starting hands
5:36 aren't omnath and the elemental token can trigger the where ancient tread?
Are we gonna get mtgmuddstah merch anytime soon? 🤔 I need a goblin gang shirt lol

I love how Dom playing a mono black deck threatened Miguel to play nicely if he wants to keep his artifacts.
10:56 he shouldn’t’ve been able to respond to the skirge familiar, that is a mana ability and doesn’t use the stack.
This was a cool game to watch that win was cool
Jamieson actually had the misplay of the century with his opening hand. T1 sol ring (which immediately got blown up) instead of cracking myriad landscape T2
Misplay of the century is a bit a hyperbolic. Maybe he didn't want to draw all the hate that a turn 1 sol ring typically entails?
MTG Muddstah no I’m saying he should’ve played Myriad T1, so when it untap T2 he can play swamp->sol ring-> crack myriad. Still can draw out the nature’s claim but at least he gets to use the ring
Hm has forest mountains in his deck and searches basics with the forays?
Huh, I used to think Vilis in the command zone was bad. Consider me educated.
Where did Dom get that playmat it is so pretty
i got it off of amazon
Please do a deck tech on your Villis
Why would you put blood celebrant in a vilis deck?
Can anyone get me a link to Karagor? Thanks! I’ve always wanted to build him but need ideas
Perilous Forays can search for nonbasics by the way.
It still needs to have a basic land type, though, which greatly narrows the nonbasic land options.
Did Dom not have to sac something to the Mire in Misery? Why'd he keep his Vat
Because Vat is neither creature nor enchantment.
@@Zaalbarjedi I see, reading is hard xD
How did he play Cryptghast in a Gonto deck? It has hybrid mana
The hybrid mana in Crypt Ghast is in the reminder text, and isn't counted when determining the colour identity.

It is. The split symbol is in the reminder text, which isn't considered for the color identity.
@@MTGMuddstah oooooooh I see... I am bit confused on this.. thank you for the clarification on this matter
That Standard 1vs1 mentality. There was no reason for miguel to blow up the crypt ghast, specially as Vilis was about to hit the table.
