I’m old enough to have seen him play : the guy was a monster on field , he had everything hands , speed , finesse , strong , the complete football player . And when a hall of famer says he was 2nd best player in the family , you know the guy was no joke ! He def is a H O F er !

I'm a Bears fan and growing up in the 80's and 90's, during the old "Black and Blue" Division games, two players I had the utmost respect for a rival players was Barry Sanders and Sterling Sharpe. Game changers. I watched them both torch my team backthen and when I found out why I didn't see 84 for GB (don't get it twisted, can't stand GB lol), it kinda took something out of it for me then. It was a shame he got hurt right before they went on to Brett's first SB. If he was still there, Favre would've got more than 2 shots. He belongs in the Hall

Thanks for making this video!! Sterling Sharpe was my favorite player back in the 90s. It's such a shame that he couldn't play with Favre longer. That was such an awesome duo to watch. He's one of the greatest WRs in NFL history and so many people today don't even know who he was.
When I was growing up, Sterling was my hero. He kept his mouth shut. He was fearless. And he let his actions do all the talking for him. If there is any justice, Sterling should absolutely be in the hale of fame.

If Sterling Sharpe played for the 49ers in the late 80's or Dallas in the early 90's, he's in the hall of fame. He was a one man show on offense in Green Bay. They had no consistent QB and no threat in the backfield. Teams knew in order to stop the Packer offense, you had to stop Sterling. 7 seasons-595 rec-8134 yds-65 tds. He's a Hall of Famer in my book.

Sterling Sharpe was an absolute Athlete. I remember watching the game when he broke his neck. Without seeing more than 1min of this video I can say that i think the NFL screwed him and I think he may have even had to convince Shannon to continue his career pursuits anyway. They both played college at South Carolina on the same team and the same graduating year 1987. If i remember correctly both Brad Edwards and Sterling Sharpe were the only 2 All Americans for the Gamecocks that year that season and that team was loaded with talent.

Agreed. The last time the Lions began getting competitive, they fired their head coach. The Fords can't seem to get it right. I'm a Vikings fan, but half my family roots for the Lions (the other half are Packers fans). I root for the Lions whenever they don't play my team and especially when they make the playoffs. I lived in Milwaukee doing them days I seen him play.He was a wide receiver and a running back in one, pure speed and quickness and strength He was great.
This is a good description of him. I can accept the argument that Rice is the best ever, but in my mind if I’m picking one of them to put on my team, I’m taking Sharpe. He was the total package, whereas I think of Rice as just a finesse player. You could out-physical Rice, not Sharpe. Speed, agility, strength, grit, route running, hands, IQ, Sterling had it all and was the only thing going on some very bad teams. I’m glad I got to see him play, and I believe if he wasn’t on a small market team that wasn’t very good, he would have been a first ballot hall of famer. It really bothers me when I see the hurt inside of him whenever this is addressed. It’s as if his career never happened, after he gave all he had to the sport and to his team.

I was 13 at the time, I had my Favre jersey and my Sharpe jersey.. when he did get hurt and then played the following week, ofc I thought he was fine and I couldn't understand why he wasn't playing in the playoffs. I cried so much when my dad explained it all to me.

Matt Millen would mention every time he got assigned to a Packers game how Sterling benched over 400. He didn't do max just reps so it's safe to assume he could've done 500 since he was doing over 400 with reps. Insane strength for a guy his size
He was one of the greatest to me. This brings tears to me. I tried to forget how rotten this was and then I see this again and fight back tears to no avail.
Sharpe was a great player who was injured after having a short dominating career, there are more deserving players but he really was one of the best receivers ever.
As a Bears fan, this man was a walking nightmare. Uncoverable, strong, fast, agile, great hands, leaping ability. My dad nicknamed a member of the Bears secondary Lemuel Stinson "Burnt toast" in recognition of how often he got torched by Sterling. A true HOFer if I ever saw one.
I was a big Barry Sanders fan at the time and definitely seen this man 🔥 the football field!! It was always a good match up Detroit/GB!! Sterling was a beast beat us in the wild card I will always remeber! He deserves to be in there like swimwear!
I can clearly recall Pat Summerall's voice saying his name over and over again on so many Sunday's covering GB. The guy was a true legend and if you haven't had the good fortune of seeing him play then start watching film on him.

I care very little for Shannon Sharpe's banter on television, but he's being completely honest about his brother, and it gives me solid respect for him. Rice would probably be involved in a debate had Sterling played a full career, since more than likely, Sterling and Bret Favre would have taken away one of Frisco's Lombardis.

The NFL needs to make this right. There are players in the hall don't have those numbers.

As a member of the Gamecock nation, I remember watching Sterling play in the Cockpit back in the 80's. Even then you could tell he should have a great pro career. When Favre arrived at Green Bay we all thought, "now they can kick *ss. One day Sterling will be Super Bowl MVP". Alas, that didn't happen, but Sterling still deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame on the strength of his stats. One of only 7 winners of the Triple Crown and the first player to have back-to-back 100+ receiving seasons, among other superlatives.

The talent difference between and him and the 2nd best receiver on those teams was so big. Shit before his injury. Only Jerry Rice was a better WR than him in that era.

Of course Sterling Sharpe should be in the Hall of Fame. Take his stats for the seven years that he played and compare them to the best seven years of any WR who ever played the game. There are a lot of WR's in the Hall of Fame who aren't qualified to shine Sterling's shoes. He was an absolute beast and was the very best in any stat, tangible or intangible, that anyone could come up with. If he hadn't gotten injured and ended up playing for twelve to fifteen seasons in the NFL, Jerry Rice would officially be the second best WR that ever played the game and Sterling would reign supreme.

All I can say is that Rice had a lot more years, not to mention a supremely gifted quarterback throwing to him throughout most of his career. If you look at Rice Sharpe's stats, Sharpe was bigger, stronger, and faster than Jerry Rice but, one way or the other, both of them were huge talents and it's pretty much a subjective call as to which of the two was the better player.

In super bowl 31 , when Packer # 84 scored on the 2nd Packer offensive play , for a TD , if that # 84 had been the REAL Packer # 84 , Sterling Sharpe , then Sterling would have been in Canton , as he should be anyhow . What Mike didn't include here is that while playing, Sterling stopped talking to the media very early in his career. It might have been after his first year. He refused to talk to the very people that he needed to vote for him for five or six years.
He mentioned it briefly towards the end. That was certainly a big part of why he didn't get votes. I remember my uncle mentioning in the very early 90s that Sterling didn't speak to the media and that was the first time I realized I had never heard him talk

Watched him play many times when I was a kid. I even had his jersey. This dude was the absolute truth. REALLY good player and person in general.
Sterling Sharpe was an absolute Athlete. I remember watching the game when he broke his neck. Without seeing more than 1min of this video I can say that i think the NFL screwed him and I think he may have even had to convince Shannon to continue his career pursuits anyway.

They both played college at South Carolina on the same team and the same graduating year 1987. If i remember correctly both Brad Edwards and Sterling Sharpe were the only 2 All Americans for the Gamecocks that year that season and that team was loaded with talent.

This is a good description of him. I can accept the argument that Rice is the best ever, but in my mind if I’m picking one of them to put on my team, I’m taking Sharpe. He was the total package, whereas I think of Rice as just a finesse player. You could out-physical Rice, not Sharpe. Speed, agility, strength, grit, route running, hands, IQ, Sterling had it all and was the only thing going on some very bad teams. I’m glad I got to see him play, and I believe if he wasn’t on a small market team that wasn’t very good, he would have been a first ballot hall of famer. It really bothers me when I see the hurt inside of him whenever this is addressed. It’s as if his career never happened, after he gave all he had to the sport and to his team.

I was 13 at the time, I had my Favre jersey and my Sharpe jersey.. when he did get hurt and then played the following week, ofc I thought he was fine and I couldn't understand why he wasn't playing in the playoffs. I cried so much when my dad explained it all to me.

I remember years ago hearing stories about how sterling was the strongest player on the packers, could bench press over 500lbs, crazy strong.
Matt Millen would mention every time he got assigned to a Packers game how Sterling benched over 400. He didn't do max just reps so it's safe to assume he could've done 500 since he was doing over 400 with reps. Insane strength for a guy his size

Sharpe was a great player who was injured after having a short dominating career, there are more deserving players but he really was one of the best receivers ever.
As a Bears fan, this man was a walking nightmare. Uncoverable, strong, fast, agile, great hands, leaping ability.
My dad nicknamed a member of the Bears secondary Lemuel Stinson "Burnt toast" in recognition of how often he got torched by Sterling.

If you're old enough to remember him playing, you know he was the best. I care very little for Shannon Sharpe's banter on television, but he's being completely honest about his brother, and it gives me solid respect for him. Rice would probably be involved in a debate had Sterling played a full career, since more than likely, Sterling and Bret Favre would have taken away one of Frisco's Lombardis.

As a member of the Gamecock nation, I remember watching Sterling play in the Cockpit back in the 80's. Even then you could tell he should have a great pro career. When Favre arrived at Green Bay we all thought, "now they can kick *ss. One day Sterling will be Super Bowl MVP". Alas, that didn't happen, but Sterling still deserves to be in the NFL Hall of Fame on the strength of his stats. One of only 7 winners of the Triple Crown and the first player to have back-to-back 100+ receiving seasons, among other superlatives.
He truly was amazing. Him & his brother were Monster's. Sterling was unstoppable.

Of course Sterling Sharpe should be in the Hall of Fame. Take his stats for the seven years that he played and compare them to the best seven years of any WR who ever played the game. There are a lot of WR's in the Hall of Fame who aren't qualified to shine Sterling's shoes. He was an absolute beast and was the very best in any stat, tangible or intangible, that anyone could come up with. If he hadn't gotten injured and ended up playing for twelve to fifteen seasons in the NFL, Jerry Rice would officially be the second best WR that ever played the game and Sterling would reign supreme.

In super bowl 31 , when Packer # 84 scored on the 2nd Packer offensive play , for a TD , if that # 84 had been the REAL Packer # 84 , Sterling Sharpe , then Sterling would have been in Canton , as he should be anyhow . What Mike didn't include here is that while playing, Sterling stopped talking to the media very early in his career. It might have been after his first year.
He refused to talk to the very people that he needed to vote for him for five or six years.
He mentioned it briefly towards the end. That was certainly a big part of why he didn't get votes. I remember my uncle mentioning in the very early 90s that Sterling didn't speak to the media and that was the first time I realized I had never heard him talk
