    Am geeking out. Only knew of Xenix and Trsdos-16 working with the 68k back in the day, this is awesome. Used the TRSDOS-16 assember some, but it had non-standard mnemonics wheras I think the Xenix one had standard ones. Awesome seeing on CP/M and the smooth scrolling.

      Thanks. Cost me about £50.00 to build the 68K so if you like it, why not make one too?

      Yeh there are some great things about 2022 and some not so great. New tech is much more powerful but (for me) lacks character

    2:48 It looks like TYPE was one of the command names which came to CP/M from TOPS-10, so it makes sense: in older TOPS-10 systems the output would literally have been typed by a Teletype! And just the same would have been true of cat output to terminals on early Unix systems. And on the early, multiuser BASIC systems too, hence why it's PRINT, after all ...

    These videos arouse my kink to make cool computer stuff.

      It just needs some soldering skills and the ability to follow the schematics tbh. The most tedious part is acquiring all the parts but once done making the board doesn't take that long. You'll also need an eprom programmer and a few other tools. Let me know how you get on. (it's so satisfying to power on a working computer you made yourself)

    Next project: new multi-user micro-mainframe, connect to a modem bank and give some of us shells on it. There is a concurrent CP/M. Not sure if that one is open source though.

      That'd be amazing!

    BTW I built the "lite" version with RTC and micro SD (recommended)

      @@paulwratt wow. that'd be pretty amazing . I might have to build it up with more RAM though

    Has anyone released or talked about releasing a similar board which supports a 68030 or 68040? It would be wonderful to have a little M68K SBC that could run software all the way up to a full pre-emptively multitasked OS, maybe even Linux if memory permits.

    • @RetroMarkyRM
      @RetroMarkyRM  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm honestly not sure but of course it's possible that it has been done. A Linux SCB would be great, especially as these are pretty cheap.

      there is a video on YT of a 68030 SBC booting Debian 11, which takes 30 mins BTW, but it is functional. If you want to play around with m68k Linux, you can use an Amiga emulator (or real hardware), or the Atari ST virtual machine ARAnyM (a 68040 AtariST Running on Any Machine). BTW you can also boot uClinux on those too

      @@paulwratt Yes, thank you @paulwratt ! I had a look around YT and there's a 2016 video by Will Sowerbutts demonstrating the KISS-68030, a RetroBrew 68030 board designed by John Coffman which does run Linux: th-cam.com/video/MYpMOBaohbw/w-d-xo.html . I _think_ Will was responsible for the Linux port, and he also showed off some changes to the I/O board design in another video th-cam.com/video/zsdBZ1Z29hs/w-d-xo.html . There are also 2022 videos about the MAXI030, a newer board designed by Lawrence Manning th-cam.com/video/WL3ttsiriho/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/gt7hjKePuec/w-d-xo.html .
      There are also original VMEbus backplane boards with 68040 processors on eBay, but VMEbus hardware still isn't that cheap: I think there must still be industrial users buying it up.

    I am obsessed with old machines that type documents. Could you demonstrait is by typing an article or maybe a story or something and save it as a text file? Does it have a text editor program?

    If you are in need of an editor there are two microEmacs ports that run on this board.
