The part Bob's eye lose its usual bright glow, and his final words, the audience knew that this death is not a casual funny one, but a valiant yet sad one of a warrior's death..... the audiences knew that they lost something dear at the moment, with the ensuing shock, and followed by despair. No plot armor, no magic, just the hard cold reality of death.

Varian's death wasn't really sad until we revisited it with Anduin imo... Without Anduin going there to experience it all, then his death was pretty badass, but not sad.
I heard the music start near 2:16 the end and thought "good choice" and then he died... I cried. He was my favorited character. Carbot just made me sad.
