  • Taking the top 8 4-Square players of the 229 Student Ministry, we battled it out for 2 hours to determine the true champion of Valdosta, GA. There were a ton of great shots, blocks, and rallies (hence the really long video), and this highlight reel captures some of the intense competition.
    Featuring:
    Cole Parker, Logan Neeley, Jacob Parker, Andrew Elam, Blake Hedgecock, Nick Vega, Tristen Sefa, and Chip Osborne
    Filmed using a Go-Pro Hero 2.

      Yep, that's so true. In fact, at my school, people keep on sending troops to take me down. They always start lying and make excuses to keep themselves in. Which they make dumb reasons to take me down, so I realize that practicing can improve my skills and make me more familiar with it. Pretty stupid huh? I used to be a beast last year, the fact that people weren't salty and had skill.That was with the fifth graders, this year, 4th grade, everyone's an idiot and has no skill. They're salty and are morons who make stupid excuses, which I've already said like a hundred times, but seriously.. This kid hit out and asked for a redo, took around 4 minutes for the group to make their minds up and give him a redo. I told him that he doesn't deserve this special treatment and should get out. Since he was a popular kid in our grade, nobody was with me.. So, I ended up being in the line, you can see me, just sitting down and looking depressed as if all of my hard work has gone to waste.
      It's as if the popular people get back-up and don't get out as easily and I'm an easy target.

      @@ethanchen4707 when I play, all the "cool" kids think an impossible hit like a cherry bomb literally 5 feet above the person counts that as in, and they cut in through the line. So once my friend and I were in king and 3rd square, he would serve to me and I would cherry bomb 5 feet above then they start whining like little bitches to ask for a redo. Honestly so funny seeing the popular kids whining

      @@lilreaper2132 I can relate to that, but we don't play with Cherry Bombs in our school, in 2nd grade, I remember seeing this kid cherry bombing some kid and that ended up hitting them in the face, honestly, best moments of the year

    Because there seems to be some confusion as to how we play the game and why, here are the rules that we have played by and refined for over 10 years now:
    - the objective is to remain in the game for as long as possible by having strong defense and aggressive offense. Every time you get out, you write a tally by your name on the whiteboard in the back corner. The winner is calculated by whoever has the least amount of tallies on whiteboard, meaning that you spent more time in any of the squares than anyone else.
    - serves are meant to put the ball in play, not score aces. The ball must be bounced once in the King square and hit across to the 2nd square
    - you must make solid, instantaneous contact with the ball with a single body area. This means that feet, head, or whatever else is allowed, as long as there is one instance and point of contact. This includes using two hands as long as the ball is not held or spun, but blocked.
    (Continued in other comment)

    • @ColeParker12
      @ColeParker12  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - spinning the ball (using one hand) is perfectly legal, normal, and encouraged due to their effectiveness in diversifying your shot portfolio in an effort to eliminate your opponents. Back spin, top spin, and side spin are all vital if you expect to hang with the elite players in our league. Spinning the ball with two hands (by twisting them in opposite directions) violates the above rule.
      - you can not blatantly or intentionally tag team to get any given person or persons out. All individuals compete separately.
      - all tape is out, whether inside or outside tape
      - (just in this room) if the ball makes first contact with the ceiling (before hitting a wall or other player), the player who hit it is out
      - if a player is hit by the ball while making contact with any of the squares or tape with his feet or other members, he is out
      (Continued below)

    • @ColeParker12
      @ColeParker12  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - you may not intentionally obstruct the path or ability of any player to get to a ball in play. Incidental occurrences where a player is simply making a play on the ball in which it is their offensive turn and they coincidentally obstruct another player is legal, as the obstructed player must anticipate the movement of the ball and players.

    • @ColeParker12
      @ColeParker12  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - obviously the foundational rule of gameplay applies: if the ball hits within your square, you must hit it into another person's square (with all of the above rules of hitting applied) before the ball hits the ground
      - we are largely self referee'd by the 4 players in the game and those in line awaiting entry. Points can be replayed if large disagreement ensues.
      - the ball cannot be played after it touches a wall (which this room is admittedly smaller than preferred)
      - rotation goes counterclockwise around the 4 squares

    At school we had 4 square tournament and I actually won. How our tournament worked was there were 10 rounds and 4 sides and 6 games on each side and they were happening at same time. each game was 30 minutes and whoever was in the leader square by the end of the 30 minutes got into the next round and faced off against 3 other winners on your side until there were only 4 people left that won the semi finals. The finals were the most intense cuz it was an hour long. The whole tournament was at the end of the school year and lasted almost the whole school day. I won

    The 4 square I have always played is when you have to hit it into your square first then make it go into the other square, they can take it on the full but it must go into their own square first. much more control required and trick shots (spins) is where its at. You are allowed to spin the ball with both hands but you can't hold the ball. Still, great vid and very entertaining to watch thanks:) Lots of skill here too.

    When I was a kid we didn't argue much- we had pretty decent sportsmanship for grade school kids. But we definitely had a ton of house rules/special techniques. Baby drops, cherry bombs, atomic drops, all kinds of special throws. I don't really remember what the rules were about when you could use them, though.

    my school plays foursquare as our competetive sport and basically for us after you touch the ball, it has to touch the ground before it bounces in the other's square. it can't bounce twice in your square before it touches the other's square and you can't hit the ball straight from your hands to the other square. It definetely doesn't look as badass as this, but it's still pretty fun.

    In my school in Chile we called this game ‘Toi’, but it was somewhat different. We upped it a bit by requiring the players to make the ball bounce exactly once on their square before crossing to any other square, unless the player returned an incoming ball with its head, in which case he could hit it straight into the square of anybody else. Also, moving into other player’s squares was allowed as a means to interfere with their play, but any player on an opponent’s square could only hit the ball with its head. If he was hit anywhere else by the player currently in that square or any other, he or she would leave the game and get into the end of the queue. Serves also required a first bounce into one’s square first. It was very cool, because players would start hitting lower and lower bounces, until the pros would engage in ball-skimming duels. We always played with inflatable balls made with thin plastic, very bouncy, light and safe to hit with an open palm. Also, the lines were wider. I graduated school at 18, now I’m 24 and just finding out this is a thing in the US. It was a game I loved dearly and I always wondered why it wasn’t a fully-fledged sport.

    This is THE PREMIER video for 4-square, simply the best... The sport as it stands just does not get any better, these guys are just sick with game. I have watched a lot of videos on the game and can find none better. Hard to believe that this small Christian nitch corners the market on gameplay. Perhaps it just due to the locals love of the game, perhaps it is just a good church promoting it for it's youth, perhaps because the offer the space to play... but I come back time after time to marvel at their sportsmanship (and they are respectful).
    The room could benefit being a little bigger of course, but I am sure those there know the limitations and how best to use what space they had.

    At my school, we play a version of this but the squares are massive, and there is DUO and sometimes TRIO mode, there’s also a dead zone of about 3 feet between the squares, to stop people from keeping on the floor all the time.

    At my school there is a teacher that FORCES all of us to use 2 hands when passing the ball, and it has to be underhand. Its always an out if you break those rules. We also use a custom rule called no cheap shots, which basically is a rule where you can't pass the ball in the direction where its impossible to get. We used to be able to use this rule called popcorn, which basically you bounce the ball in your hands until you are ready to pass. It was a really unfair rule but its gone now. We can't slam the ball on peoples squares, either.

    This is by far my favorite game as a kid, but I never realized how badly I needed walls for it...this looks so awesome...I'm guessing walls mean it's still in play and only the ground counts?

    I luv four square. Heres a short story:
    I was playing at school one time and this kid called oliver was in top spot (as always) 😒 I was in second top. He hit the ball out of my square, thus causing him to be out. Of course he puts up a fight. Eventually HE hit me, a GIRL. I didn't cry.. oh no. I punched him back. He went to the back of the line then. #GirlPower. 😜😉

      aw yes mate but if it was the other way round (you hit him first) the guy would have full rights to clap you, which he probably would've. definitely #GirlPower haha landed a punch on someone WOOHOO. Nobody said you couldn't... how is this girl power?
      There is a difference between equality and trying to be superior to men. Nobody gets clapped and then the guy says MAN POWER!!
