      People who hate on Billy are just jealous. He wrote and performed most all of those classic SP records(minus Chamberlain's Drums - seriously who's gonna play better than Jimmy?) and IMO is one of the few geniuses in music working today. Adore is a hair away from a masterpiece, yet most people have never even heard it. Also, Billy has donated more money to charity than most of us will make in a lifetime.

    That is so fucking awesome. Man I been talking about this builder for a long time. When I found his shit a long time ago I knew he was onto something and for Billy to be working with him like that is testament to that. Love his pickups and he makes fantastic guitars as well. That's why we'll be going to that NAMM party. Maybe we'll get lucky and Billy will drop in. Good stuff.

The shape is hit or miss for some but i think the sound and design of this guitar is amazing. I never comment on youtube but made an exception this time to say: notice how he finally let go and said "whether you ... grunge of the future" -- he finally gave in to the massive demand that 'grunge' tones aren't solely for the "90s". What an uptight bastard, it only took fatherhood to get him to say it!

    • @966631514
      @966631514 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +quietrune I took it to mean, "The next big thing (whatever that sounds like)."

    • @quietrune
      @quietrune 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ninja Egg yeah, either or. I just mean, every time someone would mention grunge to him, his reaction is to play the avant garde and be a punk or make a dismissive comment. He always does this when he concedes to "society" -- he casually drops it into some random interview that only fans that follow him *everywhere* can ever know that he's actually holistic/thoughtful even when he's stuck in his 'asshole' or 'ego' mode...it's just what happens when you're a progressive in your field. Everyone pisses on you for being a progressive thinker because they don't get you or agree with you at the time, but when society catches up, you have to be humble about letting go...which is always this twisted thing. Anyhow, as someone who creates the "future grunge" sound ...(ie. modern expectations of clarity along with what is 'classic' sounds that we still love).. it's nice to hear him say so. I wish he'd support young bands to create the tonal qualities they are after rather than pursue his limping legacy... I think he'd find more success in mentoring the right young bands who are parallel to his type of sounds rather than weird crappy bands that make him seem diverse and eclectic about "young modern sounds". Anyhow, this rant just came out, sorry.

    • @texmontana420
      @texmontana420 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, they were barely a grunge band. Mellon Collie is not grunge at all.

    • @quietrune
      @quietrune 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, of course. But grunge in a lot of cases is referred to interchangeably as an era and pretty much any 'dirty' sounding guitar got the grunge label. I just think you can't compete with nostalgia and when people want to hear a grunge tone, bands of that era (especially) have to give people a bit of it before they'll accept 'new' sounds (his prog version of the band).

What is distinctly less cool is that the Pearl White has turned a strange nicotine yellow in less than a year. ☹️

    • @jacobsamano9761

      Really man, I actually like how the white guitars age yellow. Remember Billy Corgan’s first Strat was that 70’s yellow Strat that he painted purple and used on “Gish” was originally a white Strat that aged yellow in the 20+ years before Billy acquired it. Do you still have this guitar? I’m currently trying to figure out what guitar to get in the $1,000 range and found a used one of these but have no way to play one. Would love to know what you think of it?

Like when I heard that the original line-up was trying to re-form recently, I immediately had two conditions for my interest to be stoked: 1) Either D'arcy or Melissa was included, 2) NO DRAMA. The very next article I read about it violated both.

    i don’t think people understand billy, he takes his music very seriously and it makes him a perfectionist. his band mates that left him were prollly the “wow cherub rock is a hit dude let’s take a 5 year break to milk the song then let’s write more music, for now let’s party dude!!” instead billy went back to the studio to record a 28 song album (mellon collie) which was meant to be a 50 something song album. an example if billy one day passes away there won’t be any shortage of music for us to hear, he has countless hours of music, from demos, to live sessions etc. he literally made music for us fans to keep rotating and not just listen to the same 2 albums for years to come. he has countless amazing songs, i can go on. for people who hate on billy, f off lad. i appreciate the man for making as much music as possible instead of sitting down for his hit song to get milked , this mans a real musician

Sure there are plenty of bands coming out that are doing new things and a lot of my favorite bands are from the last decade or so, but its just inevitable that the longer one general style of music is around the less new ideas there are going to be.

    At :55, he complains that "nobody is looking to innovate" on guitars today ... then, at 4:40, he says you cannot reinvent the wheel because "at some point, the guitar is only going to go so far." Um, perhaps we have reached that "some point" where it is becoming increasingly difficult to "innovate" on guitars?

      Anthef hes said some pretty hateful stuff about transfolk in the past, and has a tendency to be nasty. That being said, mental health shit is no joke. He seems a lot more chill now which is great. He always seemed troubled before.

      Love Pumpkins but I think Corgan has said some questionable stuff. At the same time though he's had to go through a lot in his life, so that would sort of explain stuff.

    As far as being a guitarist
    Why would you want a signature series guitar that was built for someone else?
    Don’t you want your own sound and style
    It’s good to have influence
    But find out what you can make work for you
    I hate signature guitars
    Their set up for that person who plays them
    Not you!!!

    • @venemataylor
      @venemataylor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      John Doe the gibson les paul is a signature model

    • @ghostdriver7558
      @ghostdriver7558 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most folks get into buying and playing guitar maybe because of one particular guitar player, who influences them enough to want to emulate their sound and look, what's the harm, at least they are playin'. If some young kid loves Slash and wants a Les Paul like his, who cares, maybe that kid finds his own style eventually anyways.
      As long as folks are picking up guitars who gives a shit whether it's a signature guitar or not, it doesn't necessarily mean they are gonna be an instant clone of that particular guitarist does it. Lighten up will ya!

      Taylor Venema its a brand until it is set up by the individual
      In which that case it becomes suited for the player
      If this is what you want I’m not trying to tell you what or how to spend your money
      I guess their good for bedroom playing
      What I’m saying is
      It’s your life and if it’s what you want then do so

    • @JohnDoe-gx2ii
      @JohnDoe-gx2ii 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Guitar Slinger again, if that’s what you want
      We all have people in which we look to.
      I’m not being uptight
      I’m just saying
      It’s not the guitar
      It’s the tone
      Just like billy said in this video

      Dude there's nothing wrong with buying a signature guitar at the end of the day its a guitar like any else. I myself own frank iero's signature epiphone wilshire. I didnt buy it because i madly adore my chemical romance, I bought it because its one of the most versatile guitars ive ever played you can go from sounding like a tele to sounding like a les paul at the twist of a knob. Its got a great neck, weighs as little as laptop, and to top it all of it looks rad as hell
