Another great test , I've not used the GT product but the HDD is a favourite of mine which I buy in 5ltrs . I'm working my way through your videos and have found them all really useful 👍
Another really good video, I always look forward to your content as it’s different from many others. Great tests, you have completely sold me on all of garage therapy products and will be buying their whole range very soon. Currently I use Bilt Hamber for my wheels. Keep up the good work.
I use HDD Brakethrough wheel shampoo as a maintenance shampoo. My wheels are well maintained and have Angelwax Bilberry Wheel Sealant on them for winter. I'm sure the GT shampoo is pH neutral too but I find HDD to be gentle on my wheels but also have sufficient cleaning power. I'm lucky that HDD is local to me and Shane is always happy to chat and offer free advice. Therefore I am loyal to the HDD brand. Their HDD Refulgence sealant is also a very good product.
Great video Heather. I bought the new IK Foam Pro 2 and Garage Therapy Wheel Shampoo this morning. Really looking forward to trying these products having watched your video. Hoping to do this tomorrow, weather permitting 😀
Excellent fair balanced review👌 GT Wheel Shampoo is a product i rate very highly. Used it for a long time and love the stable foam, strong cleaning power and how little you need to use. I bought 5L and recommend it always. Garage Therapy is an awesome quality brand 100%. Top job Heather👍
GT wheel soap for me now in a foamer. I recently bought my second Litre of product. I have at least 4 wheel cleaners from Angelwax, Auto Finesse, Autoglym and WoWo's that are redundant. I should really give them away as I can't see me going back to that method of wheel cleaning.
My question is, Do I need a dedicated wheel shampoo? I use BH surfex HD (APC) in IK foamer for both wheel and tires then/or BH Auto wheels. This is one of the cheapest method I have found.
I really like them as I find them to be really safe and lubricated to help prevent scratches but still effective, the suds also tend to last longer when the solution gets dirtier than regular shampoo. It’s all personal preference though so if your happy with your current method then there’s no reason to switch it up 😊
Great comparison Ms. Heather. I wish we had the Garage Therapy line of products here in the US of A. I know they have a strong following in the UK and they seem to work fantastic.
GT in an IK foamer is also my preferred wheel cleaner. Quarterly after using this method I follow up with GT Iron Oxide just to keep the wheels in A1 condition.
We’ll done Heather, great idea for a video and can see you did this over several weeks (unless you cleaned half a dozen cars on the same day!) so a lot of work. My findings are same as you really. I prefer Garage Therapy but Brake Through is an excellent product too. To be honest, on well maintained wheels, any shampoo will do a decent job. I used regular shampoo for years before dedicated wheel versions came along. It’s a different thing with wheels that haven’t been cleaned for months or years but I never face that cleaning my own car.
Thanks Chris! Yeah it took quite a while as I tested it on a few cars but it was a fun one to make and at least my friend’s/ family’s cars ended up with some clean wheels as well 😂
As you're always extolling the IK Foamer for your wheels I've bought one over the weekend at 15% off.... I'll be relegating the Marolex foamer to what I've not decided yet... For me it's GT all the way
Both quality products, interesting comparison for me as I often switch between them but have never used side by side to really see those minor differences. HDD is currently just £5.99 on the Black Friday sale too 🤯 and I think GT still has 15% off so now is the time for people to try them if they haven’t already 👍🏼
Yeah they’re both brill products, the differences are really subtle they’d be very difficult to notice unless you used them on the same wash The HDD sale looks great, I’d definitely have picked this up if I didn’t have a litre of wheel shampoo already haha!
Heather, do you have / have you tried P&S break buster? That was my wheel cleaner of choice before switching to GT but it think it might be better. I'll probably go back to it when my GT wheel shampoo runs out.
Yeah I have tried that recently it’s good stuff! Seems to have very good cleaning capability so I use it for dirtier wheels and save shampoos for my car. Only thing I didn’t like so much was that it was very dry in the foamer so the product slipped off quite quickly when using a foamer
I normally use p&s break Buster or bilt Hamber auto wheels to clean the rims. My wheels are well maintained so after watching this I'm going to give wheel shampoos a try 👍🏼. Good video heather .
Thanks Jonny! They're definitely worth trying, I was glad I made the switch for my car. I'm still yet to try BH Auto Wheels but P&S brake buster is good stuff
Great video, I myself have only just started using wheel shampoo as I figured alkaline wheel cleaner isn't needed as a twice monthly cleaning product. I got some from auto finesse which I have to try and recently got some from a company called madcow. I used the madcow product in an IK foamer and in the bucket and was really impressed with cleaning ability, slickness and ease of use. What I found was the suds didn't die off straight away once I contaminated the wheel bucket which I found with regular car shampoo, I have no idea why but it's the way forward for me.
The part of the video about pre mixed product if very helpful, I mix up the products so my daughter can pick up off the shelf, but use the HDD at the moment so should be ok , but have a bottle of GT wheel shampoo to try next so wil have to use fresh . Did the GT lose any cleaner power when pre mixed . Only just discovered your channel , keep up the good work.
The latest formula of BrakeThrough as some mild changes such as different foaming agents and a different built-in degreaser, but BT V2 that will be released within the new year is a totally different product along with our new dedicated wheel cleaner that will be released within the next couple of weeks.
Another excellent comparison Heather. Great shout on the 24 hours In a foamer test, this is really important to weekenders! How.muchnof the 500ml solution is left after doing 4 reasonably sized wheels? Great production, enjoyed this one.
Thanks very much Mat 😊 I use about 100ml/ wheel but sometimes it’s the full 500ml if i put a bit on the arches. If I have any solution left I normally just store it in the foamer and then chuck it in the bucket on the next wash as it’s normally enough to get some decent suds in there as well
Great video again don't you think wheel shampoo is abit over kill to just add to your bucket instead of just a high concentration shampoo ?I prefer just using a dedicated wheel cleaner in a Trigger but great comparison. What's your fav cleaner ?
Thanks very much for watching 😊 I did previously use regular shampoo but these seem a lot better at staying foamy when the solution gets dirtier on wheels and they’re the same price as normal shampoo so I don’t mind getting a separate one for just wheels to be honest! Hmm I do think the P&S Brake buster was good stuff, seems pretty potent. I’ve just ordered some Infinity Wax and AM details sprayable wheel cleaners so it’ll be good to try those out
Nice one heather. Top quality as always. Youre now my go to detailing channel. Quick question, i use the ik pump sprayer as i only have a small car and use a cordless hydroshot washer , what is the best foam youve used in one and at what dilution?? Thanks keep up the good work 🙏😍
Thanks very much Jason! The best foam in a pump sprayer for pre-washing? I really like bilt Hamber auto foam in the sprayer at about 2-4% depending on how dirty the car is but 2% is usually enough!
Interesting comparison video Heather. You showed both products from different angles and point of views, which was very useful. Never tried either product yet, but from what I’ve seen here: my preferences would be the same as yours; GT Wheel Shampoo. I prefer a foamier consistency, however HDD’s consistency is still very decent after 24 hours which makes this a tough call between them.
Really interesting review and some good real life considerations (24 hour test). I do struggle to justify having a dedicated product, aside for fallout or tar, for washing wheels as find a good APC like Surfex or prewash products (Spritzer, Touchless etc) or left over panel shampoo via lance or pump at same time as doing arches works just fine. Maybe if they added some kind of protection or coating the use case would be more obvious. While it is nice to have a range of products on the shelf, for me they have to be noticeably better than the general use products.
I'm finding it hard to get my head round these wheel shampoos. With nearly all the cleaning being done through physical agitation through a brush or mitt I can't see how it'll make any difference than if you just used a normal shampoo? When used as a solution in the bucket, aren't you/we expecting the shampoo to work instantly at breaking down the brake dust once applied via a brush, as the chemicals point of contact is the moment the brush touches the wheel? I can't think of a wheel cleaning chemical that works instantly at breaking down wheel grime (even auto wheel takes a little while) which brings me back to what the difference really would be if you had a bucket of wheel shampoo and a bucket of normal shampoo. Going the foaming route, I couldn't see either pulling dirt off as the foam slowly drops downwards (as far as I could see anyway) so its more a form of lubrication than cleaning power (?), so again thinking about the real difference vs a normal shampoo. What do you think, can you see where I'm coming from?
I’ve found these products have better stability compared to regular shampoo when the solution gets dirty. Garage therapy talk about the differences between their wheel shampoo and regular shampoo on their website as well if you’re looking for some info on the differences. They mention there that the wheel shampoo has a higher pH and has similar chemicals to wheel cleaners to work on brake dust. I understand what you mean about the physical cleaning action doing a lot of the work and on well maintained wheels so there might not be a huge amount in it compared to a normal shampoo. But my thinking is that they’re also the same price as normal shampoo so I’m happy to use different products for the wheels and paint even if the bonus isn’t massive. I’d like to do a video at some point comparing normal vs wheel shampoos though to see how they compare when used side by side
@@AutoCareHQ Yeah using different products is fair enough, we all like doing it so no harm there! I suppose I'm a bit of a cynic towards it currently and not convinced at the moment, but would happily like to be proven wrong so I think a video would be a good idea, on both well and not well maintained wheels, coated and non coated even. I suppose the bit I can't understand is how it can work with no dwell time really. If the wheel shampoo is going from the bucket, to being soaked in your brush and then being applied at the moment your brush makes contact, it makes me wonder what it's really doing and how, especially when its also diluted in water. Its back to testing vs a normal shampoo really. I think the real test is whether you could tell the difference between their One shampoo and their wheel shampoo if nobody told you which was which and you had to go clean a set of wheels!? Hey ho, lets see.
Nice vid Heather 👍 interesting how they both happen to be blue, I wonder if there's a technical reason for that? I use the GT one and literally ordered the latest IK Pro 2 Foamer 5 minutes before I spotted your video. Can't wait to get it now as it's my first ever foamer!
Was looking at this on their website today funny enough. The hdd that is. Have you used their road rage pre wash by chance. Those too are in the basket and I'm hovering over the buy button ha ha. Keep up the good work Heather
I really like these because the suds don’t die when the solution gets a bit dirty as much as regular shampoo and they’re the same price as regular shampoo so I don’t mind using separate products
Likewise.... and then I had the epiphany of GT products.. and once with the wheel shampoo showed me why I'm now converted. I've also done it in a pump foamer alone.... and it was 95% as good as bilt hamber auto wheels. There's definitely a difference in the chemicals and surfactants in the dedicated product
Yeah that’s true although I’d say they’re useful for seeing where you’ve cleaned sometimes. With the IK foamer as well, the thicker consistency of the foam helped the product to cling to the wheels giving me more time to clean them
Great video as always.
GT is my favourite also
Thanks for watching!
Another great test , I've not used the GT product but the HDD is a favourite of mine which I buy in 5ltrs . I'm working my way through your videos and have found them all really useful 👍
