UPDATE 1: You can control the Blackbird's ramp from the cockpit! Look at the overhead panel, and look at the lowest-right section. First, switch "Ramp Emergency Power" to ON, then open the guard on the "RAMP EMER". Under the guard, hold down the spring-loaded switch until the ramp opens all the way. Nice!
UPDATE 2: When attempting to use the Miltech's AFCS, Miltech has stated it is NOT necessary to lower the thrust lever. Simply avoid manual input from your other controls.
Tell me: what MSFS2024 helicopter video content would you like to see next?

Just found this video now - you don't need to lower your throttle after engaging AFCS! As soon as the system is engaged, it will take over the collective axis. Any manual input from the collective will result in a conflict against the AFCS.
The idea behind AFCS is "hands off controls" - engage and don't touch your collective until you disable the system - the aircraft will sample the altitude at the time of engaging and adjust the collective to keep this altitude. Similarly, with HDG, engage and don't touch the pedals or roll axis.

Great to hear from you, and thanks for your excellent work in flight simming! I'll update my pinned reply - thanks for correcting the information in the video! In my defense, I was following what I thought was the correct procedure as stated by Miltech: "After engaging, move your HARDWARE COLLECTIVE AXIS TO THE MINIMUM (eg. if using a throttle quadrant, move to IDLE position). This will avoid hardware conflicting with the controller script, leaving complete collective authority to the automatic system."

The army base in Peoria, IL flies Chinooks and I can always tell when it's one of them, as opposed to a regular helicopter. It sounds like someone's beating a drum as hard as they can. If they fly close to our house, it actually can be felt through the house. It's awesome and my son and I love to watch them!

Their sound is truly unique! Australia operates CH-47F, and they're occasionally heard in the city. Are you flying one or both of the Blackbird or Miltech add-ons?

@@matthew-lets-fly I don't own the game, just had your video recommended and it looked interesting. Always like learning about in-game vehicles that are operated by real-life people!

Thanks for the great comparison! Would love a video comparing the native H125 and the Cowansim H125

Yes me too!! That video is a priority for me, and I will make it as soon as CowanSim finalises 2024 compatibility for their H125. Thank you!!

Great video thanks, the chinook was one of the reasons I went with Premium Deluxe but I haven't actually flown it yet!

@@ft6755 I know what you mean! I was also excited for A400, C17, new gliders and hot air balloons - but I’m still having too much fun with helicopters! 😂

@@matthew-lets-fly Blackbird are a good company and I'm sure they'll improve the CH-47D. I imagine the deadline of the game's release will have caught addon devs off guard for those included ion the base game. I can recommend the Westland Scout/Wasp, I've been having a lot of fun with that but you won't be able to get it until the marketplace release for 2024.

Only from a viewers perspective the Blackbird sound and fly characteristics feels better.
By I got to say the sling load implementation was excellent in Miltechs variant. That what I want in MSFS 2024. Specifically in hoist operations. The sling load in the real world in a h125 you only use the vertical reference window and almost no communication with the load master on the ground.
But for us in the sim it would be helpful to have that graphic guidence as an alternative assist.
I haven’t been so interested in the Chinook before but after I watched this Ian now keen on trying it🙏

I agree the Blackbird Chinook interior sound is really excellent! The Miltech's radar-style display to help with external loads is really effective, and I would love to see them integrate that with Asobo's new physics-based sling-load system. These are both fun and powerful helicopters!
