"She was a very strange woman," says Eddie Lenihan, of the dead woman he never met. Say it to her face, Eddie.

Thanks for sharing this documentary. I find it interesting that all the people at the end just assume Alice's guilt without any evidence other than the fact that it is unusual that she had 4 husbands without any real evidence when the fact is that she was the victim of a "witchhunt", literally, after standing up to a bishop of the Catholic Church, something that was very unwise to do, and although probably something the people involved hadn't thought of the consequences of their actions. I'm not saying that Alice wasn't guilty of killing her husbands, there was no real evidence that she did, and any evidence I don't think it's reliable, but she was an easy target for the church to go after.

Most of this is gauged on what I just saw and I am far from judge, jury and executioner. My bet is she poisoned her husband's to gain wealth. Won't be the first, won't be the last. Chemistry knowledge was then and still is basically witchcraft. Would of had to of had an accomplice somewhere and rural towns of Ireland tend not to keep too many secrets.
My guess is the town was on her side. Possibly for any number of reasons. Maybe the hubbys were arses or the family was well established in the town or she was nice/Rasputin-esque and was a serious plámás. That's why the imprisonment stood and how she was able to easily escape. The community was forged long before Catholicism hit the shores and would have been well used to sticking to their own, however imprisoning the bishop gave the church grounds to chase. They used propaganda/tabloid tactics to try turn people against her.
Anyways, thought the story was very well told. Which is Ireland's oldest pastime. Lenihan is a true druid

You mean how many people speak Irish? Gaelic refers to Scottish.

@Brehon Academy - Why are you putting the woman from the advertisement (in the middle of the video) on this video’s TH-cam thumbnail? I thought she was the witch before I watched the video. It doesn’t seem fair to this poor woman in the ad! 15:33

How... did these people fall straight out of The Crucible? What century were these interviews filmed in?

It's so sad that anyone was flogged, and then burnt alive!
I believe Patronella was innocent of witchcraft, and I believe Alice was guilty of murder four times over. Witchcraft? No. Poisonings, yes definitely. She wanted her life of ease and making sure of her wealth, at any cost, didn't bother her.
On your videos, I love the Irish language, and thank you for the English translations. I find it interesting that some words don't translate, meaning Irish has no word for them.
Also, could you put a timer on the screen for your commercials? I didn't know how long they were going to be, and I thought maybe the show wasn't going to come back.
One more question: was this a movie, documentary, or just a show someone made? Thank you.

This would have been a documentary done by TG4, Ireland's Irish language channel. It is spectacular at producing high quality, often one off, documentaries especially in comparison with the other national broadcaster witch (hehehe) would have a budget many fold the budget of this channel. Superb work as always from them. Tg4 abù

And we have a current Catholic Bishop relating part of the terrible story concerning the fate of poor Petronella The Church it seems are not very ashamed of their pasf terrlble record of such atrocities jncluding the Inquisition .It was all so not really a terrlble crime but just the practice os the time although they
helped to instigate it .I have seen apologists for the Spanish Inquisition alleging that they did not burn anybody it was really carried out by the civil authoritiy and numbers were very low .We are very fortunate that the clergy nowadays would not get away with such terrlble deeds in support of their fairy stories

It is amusing to hear especially men say “She must have been beautiful, as what man would marry a woman who may have poisoned her previous husband.” Magic? No, some woman are just excellent seductresses. ☺️
