- This is an all-light Code 3 Force 4 LP6000 lightbar that I put together myself, using entirely original and correct Code 3 components. This lightbar features 2 standard rotators, 3 fast rotators, 2 Stingray multifunction rotators, flashing takedowns with steady override, and dual alley lights. This is as loaded as one of these lightbars can get, with the exception of rear work lights, but I think they just didn’t fit the feel of this bar. NFS/JFS
At least with the rotators the officers knew when they left their lights on.
In my experience, you knew when they started slowing down or stopped rotating, and now the battery was too flat to start the vehicle. Yes we left the car running, but for some reason they were prone to,stalling.
LOL
Ive installed many of these lightbars in the 1990s
@@pudster4115nightclubs install These indoors now as part of the lighting setup.
I remember the police department in my town used these light bars in the early to mid ‘80s. I noticed that the stingrays would sometimes stop oscillating but when they did work you could hear them operating while standing outside the unit. They were also loud inside.
My first full-size light bar when I was a Volunteer Firefighter was a Street Hawk. It was back in '85, and I absolutely loved this thing. It put out so much blinding light. Going to a call one night I got behind a Sheriff Going to the same call. When we arrived, he told me that he almost had to pull over because it was so bright.
80,000 candlepower on the Streethawks
I worked for Code3 back in the mid-late 70's. Brought back good memories of that light bar. Still remember the day the first injection mold was delivered to the shop for inspection.
Seeing the assembly area with active light bars was mesmerizing.
I always considered the Code3 the best around. Whenever I see a cruiser, the first thing I do is check out the lights.
This is back when Code 3 and Federal made quality, innovative products!
The best rotator light bar made. Nowadays, everything is LED, yes LED is ridiculously bright, and the computer can make them even mimic a rotator. But the is something to be said about old school light bars. The only big issue was NEVER turn off your car on scene unless you had 2 aux batteries, or your main battery would drain in about 20 minutes!
MX7000 has entered the chat 👀
True In I think that was the reason that most depts went to strobes and then went to leds Leds were bright with less power. Now they have led bars that you can shut down the front lights or beagle to dim the bar for night stops and so on. I love all the bars but prefer the old school bars.
I'm simply awe struck by your light bar here.
We had the stripped down version of this and the Street Hawk.
I remember I wanted some white flash to the front so I wired my wig wag unit to the take downs. It was ok, but not enough to get ones attention.
Amazing work you did here
Still the best lightbar out there. Essex used to have these in the 80's - 90's. All blue apart from red stingrays to the rear and the centre section housed the siren. Excellent.
I would love to see a video of that one lol
No, UK didn't use that
@@BlackieFoxxless They Certainly did. 90% of traffic cars had them. Bloody noisy too with all rotators on.
The Essex Granada at the beginning of the liver run showcases this, a cool bar for a blighty force to use.
Nice lightbar, My LP6000 just had outer and inner rotators with diamond mirrors between the rotors. I glued actual mirrors to the metal diamond mirrors for extra shine. My inner rotators were stingrays and my center light was an oscilaser
Led lights are great. Long lasting, bright, efficient. But the lack the charm that old rotating lights do, even the squeal of old halogen bulbs.
My PD used to use these exact light bars and they had clear lenses but only red lights (I am in NY state) and now I am a Police Officer at that agency but they are long out of service by now! I remember seeing them as a kid and thinking they were the coolest!
I can understand why emergency crews often wear ear protection when using these old lightbars...it is so loud! 😀 (I miss the sound of strobes)
I remember these had dual alleys on passenger side and single on driver's side, we used them on the 91-96 Caprice and the A pillar spotlight glared off the windshield to much when using it across the car
Very cool older school lightbar. I bet that thing draws some amperage!!
Probably 30 amps. Each bulb should be 4 amps each (this bar has 7 bulbs) plus 7 motors.
Were they H1 bulbs at 55w or a variety like Whelen halogens with a lower wattage?
I count a maximum of 4 alley lights, 2 take downs, 7 rotators at 55w each(?) So that's 13 lamps all illuminated makes possible power draw of 715watts, at 12v that's just short of 60 amps excluding motors and stingray electronics...
Never mind the noise, the heat generated must only have been dissipated by the wind resistance/drag on high speed calls
used this lightbar in 1987-1995 it was a great lightbar during this time. whelen edge 9000 was great too red/blue but not as good aas this code3 6000LP during daytime. At night the edge 9000 strobes could be seen for miles on the interstate, but blinding as motorist got within 100 feet, no wonder so many troopers got rear ended
Barring the rear ending, I feel that what makes these old-school lightbars great. The fact that they can been seen for miles. Like if I were a first reponder, I'd rather a lightbar that's super bright vs being light "efficient"
This is super cool, old ligth bar is beautiful .
That was a great lightbar
I'd love to see it in the black of night
This brings back memories
Those lights has authority!
I like these a lot better than the modern lights. Imagine how bright these would be though, if they put modern LED's in the rotators.
LED bulbs actually do not work in bulb/reflector rotators, as LED replacement bulbs don’t focus light in a way that totally fills the reflector, so the light doesn’t appear to “flash” the same way it would with a conventional filament bulb.
Beautiful light bar☺
Always preferred these older lightbars, theyre much easier on my eyes than led ones
Man I miss the days of Halogen Rotators. The LED bars are absolutely Blinding at night, and are obnoxiously distracting to the point of hazardous.
Old was cute, sharp, lovely and best..
We had those in the 90s. Except solid blue / red facing forward and an empty siren slot in the middle after it was moved to the push bumper. The red/blue wig wags went full circle in park.
Awesome 😎 light bar ❤
Gorgeous light bar :O
That's beautiful
Very nice video. Thanks for posting this.
Wish these would go back to being used and not this led crap that blinds you
I agree… the LEDs are not always as effective
Der Stuhl ist sehr schön
NICE Brother looks great
My first PD had these in cali. Duel alleys, rotator on each end. Steady red to the front on driver side blue flasher on pass side. Amber flash to the rear and a stinger on driver
We where the first agency in the nation to go to the original Vision Programable V Bar.
Amazing i have 4 amber lights 2 beacons and one sun vizor light and one mini led bar light
This would have been the ultimate light bar in its day. Now all LED.
Is there an advantage to having a clear outer lens and colored rotating lights inside? Either way love the light bar
Yes. You control which color goes where. In this case, you have different sides of the rotators showing different colors, while the clear for the takedowns and alley lights aren’t obstructed. Having colored domes with this color combination would be impractical to the point of absurd.
Can a civilian purchase these light bars if there is no intention of putting it on a vehicle and just wanting it for in the house? Or is it illegal for them to sell them to someone without police credentials?
They're legal for anyone to own. The legality of putting them on your vehicle varies by municipality.
That's very COOL. Like # 29!!!!
great work to industrial accuracy and specs. there are so many different modes, what do they mean when police officers use them in USA? for example what is purpose of left-right slow or fast sweeping Stingray and when is used middle (single) light usually os only white? i saw so many different modes at same police car light bars used same like this one and yours is great example to learn from it...👌👍
It all depends on what services the vehicle is performing. For example: if the vehicle is parked at the side of the road and only needs to be visible from behind, it may only need to use the rear-sweeping warning function. If that vehicle is parked in the middle of an intersection or on scene of an emergency, it may require a mid-tier level of 360 degree warning including just the colored rotators. If that vehicle is responding urgently to an emergency, then it would be best to use the full warning power of the lightbar, which includes fast front-sweeping and white flashing lights, which make the vehicle more visible to oncoming traffic.
@@doranbaltus👍 thank you bro, for concise explanation; - our emergency services in my area do not have such variety of option, but then again different traffic regulations than in US and/or Canada, so I guess you had to learn well all of the meaning behind them during your driving course... I noticed naming "federal signal light bar" and "CHP" - what do they mean or where are they used??
Me parece una barra de luces muy completa y original, diferente a las actuales barras leds las cuales no tienen estilo.
It is all original parts that I put together myself. Thank you!
Overkill
Is this controlled purely with different sets of brushes and position flags?
Every function is individually wired. The only "smart" parts are the StingRay multifunction rotators, which are controlled via 3 input wires that feed into a small control box, and are triggered via wire position sensors on the base of the rotator.
Never could figure out why the inner rotators are at a fast speed than the outers. Federal Signals was the same way with their Streethawks. I would much rather the faster rotators be on the outside and actually reversed them on my Streethawk to be more effective when clearing an intersection since I want more lighting.
Slower rotators have a better "dwell time," which enables the human eye to more effectively track the vehicle, without the eye becoming overwhelmed. The outer standard rotators effectively establish the dimensions of the vehicle from all angles, while the inner rotators don't have that responsibility, and can be faster in order to create a more urgent front/rear facing warning signal. When used together, you get both a good steady signal that's easy to track with they eye, and a good front/rear fast signal that conveys urgency. If you really want good intersection lighting, you're not going to get it on a lightbar unless it's mounted on your front bumper. With that being said, you could get StreetHawk intersection lights (DynaRays), or do the easier thing and put strobes in your outer front turn signals.
Are you re-orienting the stingrays to get fast oscillation to both front and rear or is there a way to get fast in either direction via the actual functions?
I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to. I just have the Stingrays mounted regularly, but the oscillation is slow to the rear.
@@doranbaltus You showed front fast but FROM the rear, I was watching it on my phone. I thought it was fast oscillation TOWARDS the rear. I got confused by the titles and view changes, never mind.
@@elightbars Ah, yeah, I see how you could've seen that. It would be cool to be able to figure out how to make it do more than the 3 patterns, but I don't know if that's even possible.
@@doranbaltus Yeah, I thought you had physically swapped them up to show them, lol. I had never heard of anything but the three functions either. I am no longer completely confused, using a larger screen for my aging eyes.
How do you have it powered i have code 3 mx7000 im trying to power
so many mode for big children
No wonder people get hypnotized and hit police cars on the road, drawn to the light like a moth
Cool
muito legal.
esses antigo são muito legais.👍
I’m into the chair as much as the light.
What size ac/dc converter are you using?
I use a 12V/100A regulated AC to DC power supply by Power Max.
Can i buy a aerodynic dome..any sellers here
Do you have any idea where you can get fresh rotators?
Only by checking places like eBay and FB light groups, really. You don't generally find them new anymore, but they do pop up if you're patient.
Just a (little) different from the 1969 Adam-12 Police car can lights. LOL
Just slightly 😂 lol
What amp power converter are you using to power this bar? Thank you
PowerMax 12V/100A regulated DC power supply
that would draw a lot of currant from the battery.
I am confused why stopped using the light bar, when Saginaw Michigan has a small budget...it make no sense why new lights when the old still work in the 60s we added red and white to our emergency vehicles. Why Spend So Much for a Light Bar last $1,400
Need one were to buy?
hello, I'm looking for this model, do you sell it?
Not for sale.
How many Amps 😅
How much are you asking for this one?
This is not for sale at this time.
He needs to hold on to it for the new business he's opening, a disco for retired police officers.
@@doranbaltus how about if we trade then?
I don’t know how I ended up here lol
That wooden chair identifies as a police car
i like the mx 7000 better thats what i run when i was a vol. fire fighter...
glad we now have led light bars.... much much better than this
