- A mommy blogger is raising concerns that a new movie could be sending a troubling message to children. Terina Maldonado writes for Macaroni Kid, a blog for parents in Mesa, Ariz. She was recently given an opportunity to take her children to pre-screen the film 'Show Dogs,' in which the main character, Max, is a canine cop who goes undercover to crack a case. She actually put those ideas in her kids heads. They did not care until the mother made a deal out of it.

It doesn't matter about the explicit ideas so much as the attitude. If someone tells them they have to try and not flinch while he looks at their genitals they would be more likely to see this as normal or funny because of the scene.

I can see her point but until she pointed it out the kids never associated it with molestation. They just saw it as funny. I wouldn't stop my son from seeing it but would be prepared to answer question if any that it may cause him to ask. I don't think most kids would associate it that way but it is always better to be forewarned so you can have good answers if needed.

I could see how the scene might have been inappropriate, the dogs were highly personified and the kids really didn’t understand the thing about not touching private parts. It really is your choice though if you want to take your kid to see this movie.

RNR 420 Parents who take their kids for movies like this aren't old enough for those kinds of conversations/already had them. When I was 6 I knew about sex and all that jazz. I do understand how this could be hurtful for young children. They shouldn't have put it in the film.
It’s a movie about DOGS though. Kids aren’t going to put themselves in the dog’s shoes, they aren’t going to associate the actions toward the dog as actions towards them. The mother was stupid on her part for making the children uncomfortable by making see themselves in the dog’s shoes. Now the kids will take everything personally.

Actually as a new mom, i can see where she is coming from. It sound innocent but yes somehow that is cringy and seems suggerts it is acceptable to kids if its happens in real life because its funny. Of course its about dogs, but kids associate themselves with that situation whatever they've watch. The movie is prolly awesome for sure, but its just that part she find it disturbing. I know its waaaaaaaaay overthinking but that's what mothers do. We worry a lot, and we worry always.. its hard to balance how you kids will get good interpretation from a movie and at the same time not to kill the fun out of it.
But as kids, we don't understand and it looks funny. I've never watched Show Dog before but I've seen other movies that had situations like that (there was this Chinese movie that had a really short pitbull type dog humping a thief's leg) and I always think it's funny.

So would you say going to the doctor and having the same thing done to you is sexual abuse? Cause that's what is happening in the movie. In a dog show they need to check that everything is healthy, everything. This includes the private areas. Max was not touched in a sexual way, but in a way to check and see he was healthy and ok. Getting it done at the doctors is uncomfy also, but you have it done so you make sure you arn't developing prostate cancer or other bad health issues.
