Great video. Much easier to follow than the VIOFO site. Drag and drop made it simple and fast… thanks 👍🏻

Hmm interesting. For some reason, mine was even quicker than this. Mine didn’t go through a reboot/install process, nor gave any confirmation that it was loaded; other than if I manually check. it is now on the latest as of the September 2023 version. Seems like it worked!

Simple and great vid dude, thanks. Mine shit the bed last week and won't stay on. How's your device still working? Just curious.

I have 2 of them, 1 is 4 years old and the other is about 1 year old and both have been rock solid. I am about to put up a video of a wreck I was in about a month ago and the footage it captured.

Viofo needs to sort out the issue with the power cable connection. It keeps dropping power, particularly when connected to PC which is a PITA when you're trying to update the damn firmware!

I haven't had that problem thankfully.

good review, I wondered where the bin file went. I went to check the version I had, as you described, but after I'd followed the upgrade process, so I don't actually know if I needed the upgrade.... duh... I Know! but regardless, good overview.

    Hello 737 Mechanic.
Thank you for making this video. I have one question. When you went to download the Bin File of the firmware update it then prompts you to (Select the encoding that make your document readable)
    The three options are:
1- Windows (Default) - Western European (Windows)
    2- MS-DOS - OEM United States
3- Other Encoding - which defaulted to Cyriillic (DOS)
My location is in South Florida.
    Thank you in advance.
    Richard

What cord are you using that's connected to the camera? I'm using a regular USB Mini Micro one and it's not working at all. It powers on the camera, but when I plug it into the computer, it doesn't even go into the mode you're referring to. When I plug it into a battery pack, it's in the mode like it's still plugged into the car. So I can't even move past basically the second step after turning off the recording mode.
I'm trying to reformat my camera because I purchased it a year and some months ago, the front camera keeps getting stuck and not working during the daytime when I need it most.

Some cords only provide power. You'll need one that also can handle data.
You should be able to reformat the microSD card from the camera itself. There is an option to do so right in the menu so you don't need to connect it to a computer.

Remember to plug the computer into the side USB port, not the one on top. Also agree with TheUshers that not all cables will work.

You can also just get a usb micro sd card reader and drop/copy the correct firmware file onto the microsd card, plug it in on the side port, wait for the lights to flash and complete. The unit will then reboot itself and the new firmware is good to go. I went from 1.4 to 2.8 using this method.

Has anyone upgraded after the dashcam is installed? I don't have that long a USB cable. Can you just turn off the camera, remove the SD card, drop the .bin file on the formatted card, put the card back in the dashcam, and start the dashcam?

Yes you can do that as well, but make sure you copy it to the root of the card.
