Hey man, I hope you're able to see this. I recorded with Greg Lindholm, the same producer that tracked "This Couch...", "Celebrate" and "Swell". I know exactly what Dylan used to record Celebrate, and likely the next few albums. He used an ESP LTD les paul style guitar with an evertune bridge, with both pickups. He used a JCM800 Kemper patch and a Bogner Shiva, hardpanned left and right. This is straight from the mouth of the guy who recorded them. I hope you see this!
Are you sure that's what's heard on those albums? I've never seen Dylan on anything other than a Telecaster. I'm sure this was a studio guitar if what you're saying is true but I've never seen him with anything but a tele.

You were super close. Maybe it's because it's done in a recording studio and the equipment was close to some of what he uses. I think you were close. Have to say, you chose my favorite songs too.
Great job man. Sounds almost the same like the processed studio versions. Caution couldve used a little raise on the mid lows. But you practically nailed thosw tones.

I've played guitar for about 16 years and my skills felt like they plateaued very early. When I got into this guitar style, it re-sparked that love for guitar I had when I first started playing. Just wanted to say thanks for making this content and being an influence to something that makes me happy; playing my fucking guitar!
They sound rather different. The widerange have a much higher output and warmer tone. Originally I made a segment about getting similar tone on other guitars but couldn't get close. So yeah, thinlines definitely have their own sound imo 👍
Oh man "for the sake of brevity" is such a great song. Great song choice! You are really close with your tones. Probably as close as you can get with a different amp. I think I can hear the difficulty of getting the gain structure right: Sometimes I think he has more gain and then in the next second his guitar sound is kinda clean again. I think he usually has a tiny bit more gain, but his playing is so dynamic that he controls it with his fingers a bit more. (or its just a mixing thing or whatever).

I like what you do Steve but PSA for the youngins: I worked for Sam ash selling guitars for two years, and have been playing for 17 years and I learned: Who. Cares. What. Gear. Other. Artists. Use. Dylan uses the most simple setup ever. That’s literally the words that came out of his mouth when I met him. I asked if he used any compression techniques and he looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about! The dudes got a straight up pop punk sound with some American football twinkles here and there and fast tapping. Well ol steve here spent 100x more money and time to sound like a pop punk artist who’s sound i replicated in ten minutes with a mexi tele with hums, a used twin, a used basic volume pedal, a used basic delay that stutters, and a pedal with the same contemporary gain you get from the SS sound. Used all this costs about $1k. His setup he suggested was easily triple that. But I’m pissed you didn’t even use anything from celebrate cause you know that’s the hardest album to replicate given how gain heavy it is. Show us a song or two off celebrate please. I can play a third of the album, it’s the sustaining gain that muddles shit up. That’s not because you need a $200 overpriced (but good) JHS pedal. Dylan doesn’t have a unique guitar tone he has unique fingers.- I have a nice compressor that you can’t even tell is on but it helps with the tapping too. Don’t get it in your head you need some ones same setup. You’ll prolly hate it. Btw jazzmasters blow teles outta the water 😝
first off, i love your videos, steve. they have taught me so much about this wonderful genre and i couldn't have asked for a better teacher. but please do not make videos like this that practically worships someone who has committed sexual assault, admitted to it, and then said he was all better now just because he went to therapy. therapy doesn't fix what he did in the past, the victim is still irreparably damaged by his actions. this isn't just some small mistake he made, it will leave a permanent impact on the victim's life. as someone who is a victim of sexual assault myself, it disgusts me that he can just get away with this. please don't contribute to him being able to bury the past and continue getting away with a heinous crime. i know you mean well with these videos, but please do better.

likely! you can get close, just keep in mind that the modeling might not be quite as good as the warmer tube sound, keep that in mind with ur eq
I'd say so. I know it has a supersonic model on there. There are many differences to keep in mind though, however it should sound somewhat like it 👍
