Love Josh's view on surfing. Best person in the lineup is the guy that's having the most fun. Progressing your fun level, not your just your surfing level. 🤙

Couldn’t agree more, been surfing nothing but a thruster performance board for most of my life. Hopped on an old fish and haven’t been able to get off the thing. Twins and quads, more volume = more speed, more waves, WAY more fun!😬

Thanks for the reminder Josh, I was just recently shopping for a Hi perf thruster, what I am really looking for is something fun like a twinnie

Josh seems like a down to earth guy. Born and raised here in Ocean Beach, San Diego CA. Lesson one my mother taught me about surfing is surf the right board for the right conditions. God rest her soul, she passed away 3 year's ago and my favorite board she gave me is her 5'6 Steve Lis fish, with wooden keel fins and the big swallow tail however is unique. Each side of the swallow is so thin they flex when you lay it down on a rail. I haven't seen one anywhere else. Also I've been lucky to have her Skip Frye, it's a 7'8 speed eggish 50/50 rails but they harden up at the front fins. It's a thruster, glass on's obviously. Flat deck, low rocker throughout, except for a little bit of spoon in the nose. Thank you mom, love you and miss you every day 🌊🤙 Thanks Josh for opening your mind about what is fun to surf on besides the standard CT, WCT potato chips that too many people ride 🤙

@@krislawless7754 Thanks brother. Like the Gold Coast, Love West Oz!. The GC reminds me of a lot like our right hand point breaks ( I'm natural foot ) and Western OZ is more like Southern Baja. Hot desert points & slabs🌊🤙 Cheers

As a Regular joe i ride a 6’ 4” Pyzel ghost and a 7’ 4” Sea Belle fish. I prefer my big fish. The ghost is dope and fun and shreds a thruster but that quad fish (rostavichs) or NVS Go Fish twin keel sticks and rocks for me.

Well, yes and no. For sure ride whatever you want, find out what feels best to you and ride that - BUT also step back and look from the outside, ask friends what they see when you surf, get someone to film some of your sessions on the various boards. What feels exciting may not be the board that serves you best. It's all very well for someone of Josh's ability to recommend small, skatey, wide four fins but for the average joe it is more likely that a rounded pin three fin will serve them best in most situations. For people of average ability a dependable and predictable board is a far better choice, and no it won't be what the tour guys are riding but rather a very de-tuned version of that with more volume, a wider beam and fatter, softer rails - IE more forgiving and stable but still with a decent turn of speed and predictable solid turning characteristics.

easy for him to say when he has already grinded away and gotten to a super high level plus he is surfing epic waves so there's no way not to have fun. Regardless, he's ripping and I'm glad he is keeping his stoke up

Retro performs like retro, all good if that's what you want to do. A retro template with modern rails and bottom isn't retro and will perform like the modern board it is all things being equal. Marketing is so effective these days that kooks and learners all want what Kelly rides because everything is media driven. They paddle out at the Super Bank and do nothing except get in the way and cop floggings. But they're happy and get to talk it up later in the pubs and clubs. They get to be cool too. That's the market for you...all good.

“The best surfer in the lineup is the one having the most fun” is hands down the gayest, most flamingest saying in the history of gay sayings
