Word to the wise, you want to have the outlet end of your waste tube at approximately 2" above from the base/bottom of your printer and certainly not much lower than 3" below the base/bottom of your printer. Once the tube fills with enough ink and has enough distance to travel down to reach the outlet point on your waste tube, gravity can create a syphon effect that will drain your ink tanks. (I speak from hard won experience from decades ago). That's particularly likely if the printer does a power clean or an ink charge as that creates a substantial head of ink in the tubing. Also, important to consider that you need to get to the chip to reset it. So the current approach causes problems because you've got to uninstall the tubing to pull out the maintenance box (now effectively a chip holder) and then reinstall it all after putting it all back again (post reset). You could potentially avoid all that by modifying the right side/end of the maintenance box (the end the spigot pushes into the box) by cutting most of that end out. That should allow you to pull the box over to the left, then lift up and angle out without needing to remove the tubing each time.
Its been about 2 yrs, my ink levels are 3/4s full, and just today, I got a maintenance box message. I checked the status, and its not full, has 1/4 empty (white space) and 3/4 full (dark) if I'm reading it correctly. I'm just gonna buy the replacement, hec, 2yrs is a pretty long time to replace next one.
Yes, if you're not doing power cleans or excessive auto printhead cleans, it will take a while for the maintenance box to need to be reset. Dark is the remaining level, white is the used space.
@HangryMuscle Ohh, I guess I had it backwards. But the error message was bcuz I had disconnected the usb cable behind pc, when I was trying to print a document. No issues now. But thanks for your video, explaining things.
Is this one better than the Epson XP 15000? I have both printers and need on for Sublimation and one for DTF. I can’t decide which one to convert to DTF.
How's the maintenance of Et-8550. Does it dry up and clog if you don't use it for days? How do you compare ET-8550 vs L1800? Which one is faster and which one is easier to maintain?
Adjust your print size in the RIP software and printer settings on your pc. The max max print size you probably get is 12 x 16/17. There might be, I haven't looked into it yet. If I had a roller I could probably find a way to make it work lol
Hi good evening, you probably still need you reset the chip on your maintenance box. You can watch how to do it here: th-cam.com/video/4A0Zy40Fc4c/w-d-xo.html
Im curious about the epson xp 970 it has a 6 color print head and it can print up to image size of 11x17 but i was wondering if that to can be converted to a dtf printer?
Super new to this can you set up an external waste tank at the initial setup of the printer, so you dont have to get the chip resetter? Trying to figure all this out beforehand! Thanks!
No it doesn't matter, the printer will not print when the chip on the maintenance box says its full. So you either need to buy a replacement maintenance box or use a chip reset to reset the chip. An external waste tank is a bigger maintenance box but you will always still need to have the original maintenance box in the printer in order for the printer to print. You can learn more here: th-cam.com/video/4A0Zy40Fc4c/w-d-xo.html
The printer is not sensing the levels of ink in the box. It just increments a counter based upon how much printing you are doing and when the counter hits the limit it then tells you to replace the box. So you still need to reset the chip.
When I push my maintenance box in the printer, I get resistance and it is difficult to push it in. I get the 'Maintenance box not installed error' unless I hold my finger on the box. Any suggestions?
SO this maintenance "waste tank" are the waste ink pads that I have been reading about the printer has to be sent in to Epson to replace if using borderless when printing, there are no other waste ink pads in this printer?? This was the one catch/Turn off on getting this printer. And you are using this printer for SUBLIMATION will this external waste tank set up work for regular printing color photos and office printing also? can you recommend any replacement inks that are not sublimation I don't want to have any issues with the print head(s) but I also read a $90.00 price tag on ink bottle sets? TYIA Kat
Waste tank/maintenance box is where the printer sends the ink waste. I only use DTF ink. If you're looking for regular ink Et-8550 ink, I have sets for sale.
It's Up to you, an external waste is just a bigger maintenance box outside of the printer for the wasted ink to go. You will still need to replace the maintenance box in the printer or reset the chip on the maintenance box.
The printer calculates how much ink it is using and knows the capacity of the waste tank , so even if your using an external tank the printer will assume that ink is in the waste tank and you will need to reset the chip when the printer tells u tank is full even though it's empty
It is the only way to control where the white prints. You exchange 2 black inks for white. The white ink makes the base for every print. I just bought it today. I could not find any pirated copies. It is a necessity to print shirts.
@@amberbernicke7956 I am a long time fan of discount software however I had to buy the authentic Acrorip software. I had tried a couple of bootlegs but they did not work correctly and I had alot of problems with that software.
This printer doesn't have cartridges and cartridges do not have anything to do with the external waste tank. The printer has a maintenance box, where it sends all the ink waste, this box fills up quickly especially if you're using the power clean function. Once the printer detects the maintenance box is full, it won't print til you replace the box. Hi, to reset it. You need a chip reset fob. Take the waste ink box out of the printer. Align the chip with corresponding pins on the chip reset fob. Push them together until the red light on the chip reset turns green. Then it should now be reset.
Can I get some help?. I found out that mine is not acknowledging some of the colors, it won't even power clean them, do yall know which cable inside may be loose that cause it to only work for some colors?
No an external waste tank is optional. Its more convenient if you have because the maintenance box that comes with printer fills up quick and needs to be replaced often.
Super bummed that chip reset is sold out :(

Whats brand of chip resetter?
Is this one better than the Epson XP 15000? I have both printers and need on for Sublimation and one for DTF. I can’t decide which one to convert to DTF.
Yes I had multiple Xp-15000s, the Et-8550 has been so much easier to use
The Et-8550 is also chipless so you don't need to buy cartridges or chipless software.
How's the maintenance of Et-8550. Does it dry up and clog if you don't use it for days? How do you compare ET-8550 vs L1800? Which one is faster and which one is easier to maintain?
Its low, I clean when needed. I haven't had an issue leaving it sitting. Haven't used an l1800 so I can't compare. The Et-8550 is easy to maintain
How do you print 11 X 17 or 13 X 19? Do you know if there is a way to setup a roll feeder?

What type of clip did uou use
I do not the external waste tank anymore, the regular waste has plenty of room and i got the clip from the Xp-15000 printer.

No i haven't been using one this whole year

No because I do not run excessive printhead cleans and i rarely use the power clean function

A waste tank aka maintenance box is where the printer sends the wasted ink during cleanings and printing.
