- A big recipe with history behind it and a flavor of awesome sauce. The famous singapore sling has a good legacy and good flavor. The recipe we've got: 1 1/2 oz. Gin, 1/2 oz. Cherry Heering, 1/4 oz. Cointreau, 1/4 oz. Benedictine, 1/2 oz. Lime Juice, 1/2 oz. Grenadine, 4 oz. Pineapple Juice, Dash of Angostura Bitters

This was my maternal grandmother's favorite cocktail. She died last week at age 96. Sweet old woman with apparently pretty good taste. The Polynesian drinks just make me think of the old 1940s, 50s and 60s Tiki bar craze. Kind of a nostalgic genre.
I got to drink one at the Raffles Hotel in Singapore (they said they invented it). They were quite proud of the drink and insisted us tourists had to start out with it. No argument from us. It was very good (of course).
Glad you put this one up. The Singapore Sling is on my list to do as well, but I need to pick up Benedictine and Cherry Heering of course. Luckily, I live near a liquor store that carries both.
Just bought cherry heering, and that stuff is like liquid awesome! Thanks, definitely a new permanent addition to the home bar.
AND HHHHEEERRRRE YOU HAVE IT!!! THE SEEGNAPOUR SLEENG!
Thanks for doing a video about this classic! While I enjoyed doing it for my friends and telling them it was the original recipe form the early 1900's, we found it was very sweet and the pineapple was a little bit overpowering. We tried the IBA version (8 parts gin/4 heering/1 Cointreau/1 Benedictine/2 grenadine/16 pineapple juice/6 lime juice) just after and liked it better: we could more precisely taste the various flavours that make it up, though a little bit too sour.
I submitted a recipe with benedictine a while back! finally you have it!
Thanks for the viddy, we do love them classic recipes. Keep the catchy intros coming, Derrick!
QOTD: Polynesian drinks are awesome! I'm a big fan of the Mai tai but I liked this one too:)
best wishes to your family. you have my blessings
Love Cherry Heering, sticky sweet and very black cherry.
my wife says you look like a scientist in his lab.
my favorite drink
thank you
cheers
I like that recipe(although I've not had that gin, and you guys seem to speak highly of it). I prefer to serve them in big goblets, as the narrow little Collins glass doesn't show the colour as much, and a higher-volume goblet allows for more ice. Agreed, this is definitely a drink that needs a lot of garnish on the top. Your tiki-god head would have been a good call.
Daily Q: I typically have to adjust Polynesian-style recipes to lower the sweetness, but I always like them on a hot day.
Hey, I got one for you!
1oz. Mandarin Vodka
1oz. Jagger
2oz. Sprite
Splash of Sweet N Sour
The Acid Spit*
Cheers from Mexico! Hope your son gets well soon. :)
kepp up uploading :) and nice video
Just a random question : the sweet and sour and symple syrup,do you keep it in the fridge or room temperature?
To answer your Question of the day, Polynesian drinks are really tasty. For me, everything that mix sweet sour and other crazy tropical flavor is awesome. Polynesian drinks take it to the next level in terms of flavors. Often, you will get a vibrant first taste followed by some subtle aroma. The only downside of Polynesian drinks is that consistency is really bad outside of home drinking (I.E restaurants and bar). Glass wise, I am a big fan of rock glass...gives a better smell than highball.
Epic Thundercat t-shirt!
Derrick, I love singapore slings but I don't make them often enough to warrant buying the cherry Heering just for one cocktail. Do you think that the Heering would work as a sub for the maraschino liqueur (i.e., Luxardo) for Hemingway daiquiris? I ask because I know you've made the Hemingway for your show before, too.
The set up that CMC uses utilizes a Boston shaker.
yeah, I think I do, I love Jägermeister (that one is herbal i think) .. is Benedictine sweet or bitter liqueur?
Heering sounds awesome, i looked it up, its not too potent and you say it is sweet so I am sure i will like that one.
btw thank you so much for quick answer! :)
woo hoo. i almost wanted to submit this recipe. ^^ (from singapore)
@everydaydrinkers hello Derrick, I am thinking about buying a Heering and Benedictine, but have no idea how does it taste and I am afraid of dissapointment. Would you please describe the flavor profiles (or do a little flip cam tasting maybe?). thank you in advance.
Love the show, best wishes for you and your family from Slovakia.
The only drinks with ice in it are served on snifters and usually is Brandy and/or Cognac, Armagnac....every other drink is either stirred, shaked or build over ice...especially when you have more than two ingredients....
My prayers goes to your son on this difficult time Derrick...
They didn't have Cherry heering at my liquor store, but they had this (Danish) cherry liqeuer calles Kirsberry (14,8%vol), do you know it and is it a good substitute, I can also order De Kuyper Cherry Brandy there
the recipe from the video description differs from the description in the end of the video. In the video description it says 1/2 of an ounce of grenadine..
one of my favorite cocktails, especially since i'm a fan of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson who mentioned this drink in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" . Also wondering what you think of the recipes that call for club soda? Most local bars in my area look at me with this "uh?" look when i ask for this..so i've come to just making them at home.
there are an almost infinite amount of recipe variations, not sure about club soda versions
Has the glass ever came apart when you were shaking?
mai tais and zombies are both really good, i''ll admit ove only had premixed though so im not sure what kind of cup you'd use other than the biggest one you could find lol
mmmmmmmmmmmmmm my favorite drink!! Happy new year people!!
happy new year
singapore sling aka tipsybartender's "never order this at a bar" cocktail lol
See, I've always felt that really distinctively-colored cocktails like this need to be in big fat glasses, to really show that unique colour.
On another note, I have a TON of research on this drink. Perhaps you'd be interested in sharing with your audience if I were to submit a variant or three of this particular drink?
How unfortunately true… last time I wanted to try it at a restaurant in Paris, I only got a gin+cherry… but I actually got to taste a pretty good one, very similar to your recipe, at L'Abattoir, an amazing cocktail bar in Vancouver, BC.
Thundercat shirt and optimus prime on the bottom right corner xD
Wow,this is sad to hear,i hope he will be okay, from your reply to herox04 it seems that he spends more time home now,is he getting better?, i hope for you that he will get healthy soon :)
When did Rob Schneider start doing drink tutorials, lol.
QOTD: i love me some Polynesian drinks
Just 1 mistake Derrick, the drink is served without ice, that's why it didn't fit into your glass=)
Yeah I know I've been watching your show for quite a while. Can I get a shout out in the next video?
Haha Singapore here!!!
I think he means not tins, but what laymans would call shakers...basically tins with a lid and then a second lid with a strainer, like this:
(well it wont let me post a link, but just search amazon for shaker, it should be at the top or second)
Which I am curious also why they are much less common in bar settings, is there a reason or just coincidence?
Eric Gouthier Speed and versatility.
Will you ever learn to free pour? :)
Do a Young Folks drink!!! You know somethin for people who just turned 21

What happened to your son? :O
anyone else think "everyday drinkers" sounds like alcoholics? :P
I don't like the booze taste so Polynesian drinks are great for me. They do sneek up on you though!
