Gary Moore was a guitar legend and genius . Without doubt one of the greatest guitar 🎸 axe man ever, a top 3 in my opinion. I first saw Gary when he was a member of Thin Lizzy in the late 1970,'s but Gary stepped it up in his solo work and his move into Blues .His genius was there for all to see. Sadly Gary Passed away in 2011 whilst in Spain but I was fortunate enough to see Gary play a whole load off concerts around London from the Hammersmith Odeon ( Apollo) to smaller venues. I remember him doing shows with BB King Albert King and Albert Collins amongst other greats and I had the pleasure of seeing one show he did in June/July 1990 when I was standing at the vip bar watching Mr Moore perform whilst chatting away to John Lord of Deep Purple fame who at the time was a neighbour of mine. RIP GARY MOORE & JOHN LORD
I was fortunate to see him open an all day show in the Astrodome, Houston in 1984. He was followed by Bryan Adams, Ozzy, .38 Special, and then Rush. Looking back, he should have been the headliner of the show and not the opening act. It's amazing how he makes you feel with that guitar.
What only experienced musicians will catch: Gary botched the beginning of the outro, so what does he do? He changes a couple notes to make it a relative mode to make it match root, then seamlessly goes back into the root key to finish the outro. This is some expert level shxt to do live.

Gary was one of the best to pick up the axe!!! This song will alwasy have a special place in my heart. When my daughter was born she suffered with very bad colic, playing this song and dancing with her was one of the only ways to get her to calm down and sleep. Criminally under-rated, but he has has to be in any conversation about the GOAT.

May I suggest "Gary Moore - The Loner - Live at Hammersmith Odeon"? This one really blew me out of the water when I first heard it! It's basicly an instrumental that is over 12 minutes long, but I guess by now you know that Gary only needs his guitar to tell a story...

The call and response between the two of them is incredible and it looks like they had a lot of un up there on stage together, the small audience that was in the club were treated to a magical performance.
Gary was really one of a kind, a few really demonstrate that passion and often improvisation playing live, which was really his trade mark. I say it again, with him it was HIM being the extension of the guitar, and not the other way round like it’s mostly said. You see it and especially feel it every time you see and hear him live. There is one hidden gem 💎 that you HAVE to check out if you wanna see this in mastery, the song is called “Separate Ways” and the recording is from 1992, just before he hit the road for his tour he played this “little” show in an Town and Country club in London, with especial appearances of Albert Collin’s and the one and only B.B. King! This song has a double guitar intro and is one of the most beautiful ones you’ll ever hear. And the there is of course his masterpiece and signature song “Parisienne Walkways”, although the lyrics were written by Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy, one of his best friends btw., but it is HIS song and he played it until his death in 2011. Moore was born one of five children of local concert promoter Robert Moore and housewife Winnie Moore. Thanks to his father's profession, Moore grew up listening to music from Irish bands, playing live and country, rock and pop music of the era. He performed for the first time in 1958 at the age of six. Dressed in shorts and standing on a chair to reach the microphone, he sang a song called “Sugartime” with the show band.[2] In 1962, when Moore was 10 years old, his father bought a guitar from a musician. This was a large acoustic guitar from Framus. The strings were very hard, difficult to tune and the guitar was therefore very difficult to play. Yet Moore managed to master a number of Shadows songs in the first week. He taught himself some chords with the help of a book, watched other people play guitar, listened to records and got the feeling of playing the guitar. Although he was left-handed, he started playing with a right-handed guitar simply because he saw other guitarists doing the same. A year later, Moore performed under the name “Little Gary”. Two years later, in 1965, he played in a band called “The Beat Boys” in his father's club outside Belfast. Later they played in hotels and ballrooms and in terms of repertoire they basically played whatever the audience wanted to hear. Moore released his first solo album in 1973 as the Gary Moore Band. In 1979, with the help of Phil Lynott, he started a real solo career. The combination of Moore's guitar playing and Lynott's voice produced the single "Parisienne Walkways" (from the album 'Back On The Streets'), which reached the British top ten in April 1979. After a series of solid rock albums, Moore returned to the blues with the album Still Got the Blues, featuring contributions from B.B. King, Albert King and Albert Collins. With the album Back to the Blues, Moore finally returned to the familiar blues pattern. His most recent album is Bad for you baby. I took up playing guitar around 2010 and like most, YT was a great resource to expand your knowledge. For me, music is all about the melody and I remember while surfing YT I came across some kid playing the song "The Loner". My first thought was how beautiful the melody was and it might be something I'd like to learn to play. After finding Gary Moore was the artist, I found a treasure trove of some of the greatest guitar playing i'd ever heard. Parisienne Walkway is great song by Moore and The Loner is beautiful as well. In regards to underrated guitar players, at the top of my list is Frank Marino. It's Begun to Rain" live at the Agora is right up there with some of the best guitar playing I've ever seen.
I always liked this song, as well as my mom did because my brothers band used to cover this song. My brother played guitar in the band and my mom liked to watch him play this song. Sadly my mom passed away in 2012. Thanks for the memories.

Está en mi top 5 de mejores guitarristas de la historia...muy olvidado..en vida tuvo mucho éxito sobre todo en europa...lo disfruté y el dia que falleció fue muy duro ademas murio en mi oais España....la gente de 20 o 30 años no lo aprecian porqué no lo conocen es una lastima....

Moore was born one of five children of local concert promoter Robert Moore and housewife Winnie Moore. Thanks to his father's profession, Moore grew up listening to music from Irish bands, playing live and country, rock and pop music of the era. He performed for the first time in 1958 at the age of six. Dressed in shorts and standing on a chair to reach the microphone, he sang a song called “Sugartime” with the show band.[2]
In 1962, when Moore was 10 years old, his father bought a guitar from a musician. This was a large acoustic guitar from Framus. The strings were very hard, difficult to tune and the guitar was therefore very difficult to play. Yet Moore managed to master a number of Shadows songs in the first week. He taught himself some chords with the help of a book, watched other people play guitar, listened to records and got the feeling of playing the guitar. Although he was left-handed, he started playing with a right-handed guitar simply because he saw other guitarists doing the same.
A year later, Moore performed under the name “Little Gary”. Two years later, in 1965, he played in a band called “The Beat Boys” in his father's club outside Belfast. Later they played in hotels and ballrooms and in terms of repertoire they basically played whatever the audience wanted to hear.
Moore released his first solo album in 1973 as the Gary Moore Band. In 1979, with the help of Phil Lynott, he started a real solo career. The combination of Moore's guitar playing and Lynott's voice produced the single "Parisienne Walkways" (from the album 'Back On The Streets'), which reached the British top ten in April 1979.
After a series of solid rock albums, Moore returned to the blues with the album Still Got the Blues, featuring contributions from B.B. King, Albert King and Albert Collins. This album was a tremendous success. Moore stuck with blues until 1997, when he decided to experiment with modern dance beats in A Different Beat. This misled many fans, and also the music press. With the album Back to the Blues, Moore finally returned to the familiar blues pattern. His most recent album is Bad for you baby.
Moore died at the age of 58, while on holiday[1] in a hotel in Estepona, Spain. Moore lived in Brighton and had four children.

I took up playing guitar around 2010 and like most, YT was a great resource to expand your knowledge. For me, music is all about the melody and I remember while surfing YT I came across some kid playing the song "The Loner". My first thought was how beautiful the melody was and it might be something I'd like to learn to play. After finding Gary Moore was the artist, I found a treasure trove of some of the greatest guitar playing i'd ever heard. Parisienne Walkway is great song by Moore and The Loner is beautiful as well.
In regards to underrated guitar players, at the top of my list is Frank Marino. It's Begun to Rain" live at the Agora is right up there with some of the best guitar playing I've ever seen.

I always liked this song, as well as my mom did because my brothers band used to cover this song. My brother played guitar in the band and my mom liked to watch him play this song. Sadly my mom passed away in 2012. Thanks for the memories.
