Ed's dedication to the rules and starting again in the last task is a huge part of why to me, he is THE champion of the show. (It specifically reminds me how I when I was a little kid who definitely had some undiagnosed autism / adhd and I had to stick to the rules of a board game perfectly and got really upset with people cheating). Though unlike young me, he gets the spirit of the show to a tee, knowing when to take it seriously and be competetive, when to be funny and when to be the butt of the joke. It makes total sense to me why he hosts the podcast.
“Was there a drought for the England football team?” Mate, the drought is still going on 😂 This was (and still is) a proper anthem. It was originally released for Euro 96, which was held in England, and since football was invented in England, hence, football was “coming home”. They did another version for the 1998 World Cup and there’s been at least 1 more, I think but it gets sung/played during every international tournament
I’m glad Gamble’s win wasn’t spoiled for you. It would have been easy as he is so active in the Taskmaster universe. As for you losing track and thinking Ed was out of it, you’re not alone. The reason he was so pissy in studio is because he thought he had lost it. He has been very vocal about his embarrassment for his attitude.
While I love NZ series 2, I do think you're missing out a bit by skipping over series 1. Some excellent tasks & contestants, as well as it being the first insight into how the NZ show started. As for this finale, it's a classic. So many quotable lines throughout: 'ride 'em up cowboy gets one point' 'dug that chickpea up and fucked it' 'fuck me strap in' 'you know it's not about the spirit' And the seven tasks is one of my favourites of all time, the varied results of the order of tasks. Rose seemingly smashing it. Jo Brand threatening to have a stroke. Ed getting stroppy with Greg but ultimately being the only one to get any points. He did deserve the win on that as he persevered like a champ. However, as solid as Ed was, I could not agree more with Rose for MVP, from shid to stella she was fantastic throughout. Really piqued my interest in New Zealand comedy. Fun fact, apparently at the after show party, she approached Alex and Andy Devonshire (the director) convinced they had selected a tiebreaker where Ed wins so he would win the episode. But it turned out Ed beat Rose in every recorded tie breaker. If only she had built her tower properly.
Yeah, Three Lions was originally released in 1996 and was about the 30-year drought in the England national team winning any competitions, but since then things have changed. It's now a 58-year drought.
Three Lions was originally made for Euro 96, which was being held in England, 30 years after England won the World Cup 1966 in England. Hence "It's Coming Home"
You've got a lot of definitive Taskmaster archetypes in this season, Ed is the quintessential "Good at Taskmaster" type cos he's quick and deeply competitive and has a brain made for the show. David Baddiel is the classic Taskmaster dingus who was always destined to come last from the beginning but is still hilarious doing it. Jo Brand is the classic cast member who barely gives a fuck but has moments of incredible brilliance like High Dennis. Rose and Katy are just wonderful and creative and sincere and I think of them both when I think of my faves in Taskmaster. Season 9 is top tier.
Throwing out there that I think Baddiel is somehow *not* the most incompetent contestant Taskmaster has ever had, so I’m looking forward to you seeing the person I think is
Season 10 for sure is a wild card. A strange set of guests during a strange time of social distancing....I genuinely curious how you'll react to it. haha
I would love to see the seven tasks in the proper order done again in another series. That one was so good, and Rose got so lucky-which just makes all the other attempts that much more hilarious.
Was there a drought? There still is my good man. England always say they're ready to win a major tournament and they always fall short. Being a massive football fan and also Scottish, and we are terrible, it brings me so much joy.
Scottish but I run a sports pub in down south. Everytime torn between wanting England to get far to improve the beer sales then the joy when they inevitably lose in the final on penalties 😂😂
I enjoyed Rose's chickpea task, but there's no way she deserved the 5 over Ed. It's an example of something solid in the moment, but you forget it shortly after. Ed's attempt was just a bit more memorable.
yeas i would say season 10-12 of tm are a different era compared to the first 9 as well as 13-17(current season) are a particular era as well so its def good ur splitting it up before s10 instead of after. def cant wait till s10 cus i really love it (which is an unpopular opinion hahaha) idk if youve watched the it crowd but one of the leads Katherine Parkinson is in it
Glad you started the NZ version with S2, not gonna lie the first one was kinda hard for me to get through other than Angela Dravid being a delight, but it did pick up on S2 nicely
I miss Rose too!!! Big crush....Thankfully there are some more upcoming contestants I end up having crushes on too :)....oh and Laura Daniels is one of those crushes!!
There will certainly be some characters who will qualify for that new award, although in my opinion they’re usually the most passionate and fun to watch. I’d probably call it the Nishe.
I thought you were going to make an Ed Gamble award for player that was key to the season working. ie, the lynchpin of the season that was key to the chemistry.
Episodes 1-10 Ed chose ANGER! Between him and Acaster...too much fun ... but there are plenty more, how shall I put it ... 'emotionally triggered', contestants in the seasons ahead of you 🙂
glad rose got the mel award! and i love the idea of the baddiel! i'm almost sad to see the cast go yet again, from your channel this time. this season is absolutely my favourite, followed right up with 6, 11 and 13. eagerly awaiting future taskmaster reactions! i think i might go watch the new zealand series, i never dipped my toes into the foreign versions of the show, but hey, might as well!
I'm calling it now. There is a contestant on Taskmaster NZ Season 2 who's likely to become your favorite contestant of all time. I'm reasonably confident, because I always successfully guess who wins your favorite contestant award. 😁
Ima call it that we'll see some Ed Gamble style righteous anger over the scoring. I threw on a couple of old 'Neil Talks' season 2 reactions a little while ago and his decent into despising the Matt Heath favouritism is hilarious 😅
@@AdamfromFWCI To expand on him being Jewish, his grandparents fled Germany to survive and his mother was born there before they fled. By the time David was 5 and old enough to be hearing stories to be influenced by and playing board games, it was only about 25 years after the end of ww2. On it's own it might seem strange, but in context it's not what you might initially think today.
To me, this series is 2nd best after S7. (I get the love for S2, S4 and S5 but personally they don't do it for me as much as S7 & S9). The cast are all so fun and the tasks are the same. It feels like a course correction from whatever felt off about S8. (Though I am a proud S8 lover too, I do have to admit it isn't the best). S10 is a rough one in my opinion. Covid hit the format of the show kind of hard, and on top of that, I personally am not a huge fan of most of the cast. It's still worth watching and has it's great moments. I do respect the decision to do NZS2 first though. The show has a slight off feel to me because it's the same but slightly different, but the cast are all very funny. (I do find Jeremy to be a bit weak of a TM, especially compared to Greg).
England in general have won a few football tournaments just in recent history. U17 World x1, European Champions x2. U19 European Champions x2 (only tournament they play) U20 World Cup x1 U21 European Champions x1 (Current holders) What is pretty delightful is that a lot of countries celebrated these tournaments quite a lot, even alongside the senior teams - until England have been winning recently, where they now pretend it doesn't exist 🤣 And Germany hasn't won an actual match against England for 14 years, it's safe to say they are quite low down on the teams that annoy England fans list and have been for a while! And of course the Womens team are the current European Champions.
David is still a mystery to me, I want to think it’s an act but there’s so many instances in this season alone where the most random bs happens to him and it’s entirely out of his control.
The three lions song is a bit misunderstood at this point. The first song is a lament about the failure to win a tournament, but about standing with them regardless and being proud so you did get that part. The chorus is actually referring to the fact that a tournament was being held in England for the first time in a long time, "football's coming home" is about the tournament itself being held there. The second song is another lament on the same topic, but kept the catchy chorus just because it was the chant that works well in the stands. A lot of people, especially not from the country, tend to think the point of the chorus is purely about winning now. Edit: Also if you didn't reach it, the chorus for "It's my life" is well known (at least here), nobody remembers all the rapping part.
David does really well for the prize tasks, and terrible everything else - Even when it comes down to luck. Ed on the other hand, is very competitive, but sucked majorly for the live tasks. XD
I forgot how many amazing moments were in this finale. Every single time Ed's "Strap in, mate," gets me rolling 😂
David trying to push the wheelbarrow through the caravan window convinces me that he's not quite sure how reality works.
That and the fact that he was genuinely confused as to where his hip was.
@@rachelstechman5959 I can almost kind of see the logic of not knowing the difference between your waist and your actual hipbone… but still….
lol

wasnt the womans team tired of waiting for the men to bring it home and just said fuck it well go get it ourselfes?

I think Rose also still being involved with the franchise helps obfuscate it.

Maybe the David B award should be called the "Incompetent Valor" award.

Obv the David Baddiel award should be called The Baddie!
Karen O'Leary's cop character is also in their own spinoff of What we do in the Shadows - "Wellington Paranormal". You should watch it!!
Nooo don't skip NZ series 1, you need to experience Angela Dravid!
😬 you do you…. But I’d definitely recommend to do TMNZ season 1 before 2… 🤷🏻♂️ I’ll watch either way
Agreed. There were some wonderful moments in S1, and also it grows from there.
Man season nine was so good!
Oh you should definitely just call it the David Baddiel award - it'll fit the spirit!
At the very start of this episode, having only watched 3 minutes: can I guess that the “announcement” is some kind of Baddiel award?
season 2 was also my favourite!
Was there a drought? There still is my good man. England always say they're ready to win a major tournament and they always fall short. Being a massive football fan and also Scottish, and we are terrible, it brings me so much joy.

NZ is my favorite of all the TM variations, original included. I both can’t wait & am dreading those reactions haha.
I've got a feeling the Tuxedo wearing was their idea, not the show's. Am I right about that?🤔
Rose's prize tasks screwed her over!
The chickpea task is definitely one of the best task in the entire series, in my opinion.

Yeah, TMUK S10 is weird. Probably because of COVID, it’s the darkest series. It’s the only one I don’t rewatch- and I love Johnny Vegas.
