    - Prioritise written notes (plain paper)
    - Facilitate studies with extra reading (articles, literature, books)
    - Organise notes/materials carefully and effectively
    - Have a growth mindset
    - Use blurting, Feynman's technique, Pomodoro method and spaced repetition; use flashcards when blurting fails
    - Create summary sheets prior to exams (containing difficult content)
    - Create essay plans before writing essays
    - Repetition, patience and consistency is key to success

    I've wanted to study medicine for six years now, but I didn't have the grades so I became a paramedic instead. By now I had kind of given up on my dream, my biggest fears being that I would never be good enough to be a doctor and I'd probably be struggling with studying again after such a long time, but watching your videos has somehow changed my mindset. I finally found the courage to apply for a place at the uni of my dreams. So, I know I'm just a stranger from the internet and this might come out weird, but I really wanted to say thank you, Holly, from the bottom of my heart. 🤗❤

    • @isabelle2850
      @isabelle2850 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Kirimagine remember that even when you are there, training To be a doctor, you will still feel like perhaps you are not enough. Im in my 3rd year and have a lot of thoughts and anxiety on that because i did not have great grades until now. But guess what that s fine and it doesnt show your value. It s hard to be a doctor and very very hard to be a very good one because you will never see yourself as such... my microbiology professor said this and it really stuck with me. Medicine is not a job it s a career and you will always have to grow for it. If you believe you know nothing then you probably will know enough to be a good doctor. But the most important thing in this career is to strive to be a selfless doctor, a loving people doctor. Just to do your best and do not give up.

      @SymphonyOfSmile 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      @@isabelle2850 Thank you for these kind words. ❤ All I ever wanted is to become a good doctor, not only when it comes to diagnoses and treatments but when all a patient needs is someone to listen to them and really care and see them as a person with feelings, hopes, dreams and fears. I strive to become a doctor people will turn to when they need help because they feel safe and understood when they come to me. I don't know if I can make it, but I will certainly try and work as hard as I can to achieve my goals and be happy. 😊❤

    Holly, when I was doing my MA In Classical Studies at the Open University, I took lots and lots of notes for my TMAs, EMA, and dissertation and I always noted the page, author, and title of book where I got my sources from. I was not always very organized because I really did not know how to structure my essays with all the notes which I took. I misread my TMA questions and I lost a lot of marks and I did not feel happy when I did not do well in my TMAs until I asked my tutor and SST for help.

    IF you want to become a topper, follow these steps
    - Prioritise written notes (plain paper)
    - Facilitate studies with extra reading (articles, literature, books)
    - Organise notes/materials carefully and effectively
    - Have a growth mindset
    - Use blurting, Feynman's technique, Pomodoro method and spaced repetition; use flashcards when blurting fails
    - Create summary sheets prior to exams (containing difficult content)
    - Create essay plans before writing essays
    - Repetition, patience and consistency is key to success

    This sounds good, although I remember that when I went to university, there was just too much stuff to memorise and too many books and papers to read, I wouldn't ever have time to take precise notes or make flashcards for every subject. I had my techniques on how to read a (compulsory) book once and remember as much as possible. You somehow get better and better at it after a while.

    to anyone starting out their first/new semester! i'm finishing my second master's degree in October, and i can wholeheartedly recommend the flashcard + summary sheet technique! flashcards (with the number of points to memorise on!) help you drill the information in, and to look at a summary sheet only containing what you "still" don't know just before the exam is really really helpful, as you don't waste time or get distracted by a general/too broad summary sheet where you read a lot of stuff you remember anyway by now...
    good luck to anyone starting out at uni! :)
