Great card for my nephew's first gaming pc and even for my classic rig. Love playing older games like Roller Coaster tycoon, sims and rts games with it. For the price its fantastic and is still capable in 2024 for someone who wants to get into gaming but doesn't have the time or budget to go full into a major rig.
I am still using Asus TuF F15 (2020) with GTX 1650 (GDDR6) and 16 GB RAM. While I'm not always playing newest game, it surprisingly capable of playing relatively new game despite being a significant downgrade from desktop counterpart. Callisto Protocol runs at 40-45 fps on medium-low 1080p, AC6 got 50 fps on medium-high also at 1080p
My “first” gaming PC was with a Low Profile 1650 from MSI. After that, I went to a 2070S, then now to my 3090. That 1650 holds a special place in my heart
My first one had an R9 270X, then I upgraded to an RX 580, then an RX 5700XT and now I'm on an RX 6950XT 😎 The R9 270X still holds a special place in my heart because it got me through so many years of gaming and content creation. I definitely need to make a retrospective on that GPU sometime soon
@@BrandanFischer I feel that. When I got the 1650 I was still in HS on a strict budget. The office PC with the i5 3rd gen, and the 1650 got me through years. There's something special and fun about budget gaming. Glad to see this card still holds up decently
I'm actually using a 2021 MSI gf65, with a 1650 as my daily driver, it hasn't failed me yet and mostly all I play run great to me. I ended up buying a pretty decent desktop later with a 3060ti but eventually sold it. Laptop was better for portability.
I run apex legends on the gtx 1650 ti laptop variant and god i wish i built a pc back then 😭💀 i run 90-144 fps in apex legends on lowest settings in 900p, but i might build a 4080 super pc soon.
Couldve done minecraft with sodium and nvidium because the 16th series GTX gpus are compatible I did it on my laptop with an rtx 3050 4gb and i5 12450H it looks beautiful
@@Dragnulls I prefer Optifine because I can cross compare to any GPU, not just Nvidia. Sodium though I have used before and it's pretty good. Honestly it's hard to NOT have a good experience in Minecraft these days with modern hardware!
those amd graphics are good but i think there's no comparison between those and the 1650, and that's because of the power consumption. the 1650 only has a tdp of 75w, while the 580 is consuming 185w. for 10 fps of difference i prefer gtx 1650
I think for a smaller Dell system, the 1650 is definitely a better fit. However if you don't care about power draw and size, the 580 is definitely the better overall buy!
Yeah, the 580 is quite a bit better. Closer to a 30% difference. So I guess if you're running at about 30 fps on the 1650, you'd be getting 10fps more on the 580 🤣
@@BrandanFischerperformance difference is not linear, depends if games are optimized better for AMD or Nvidia aswell, some games almost double the frame rate on the 580 compared to the 1650 especially if its a newer game consuming more vram. Yh the power draw is higher but the 580 is an older card that was more powerful. Obviously newer cards will have lower power draw for the same performance on lower gens. When the 1650 got released it was already obsolete it almost performs at a 1050 ti lvl when the 1050ti was already considered 2 outdated to play newer games. When the 1650 it was considered e-waste.
I used a nitro 5 laptop, had a gtx 1650 4gb, and an I5 9300H, it was pretty decent when i first used it but after 2 years it severely declined in performance, then I just had enough and built my self a pc with a rtx 2080 super, and ryzen 7 5800x, but im getting a rtx 3080 within this month of july
The 1650 mobile is a little behind the desktop variant, especially some models of the 1650 mobile that have been cut down in CUDA cores. That's quite an upgrade! I bet you're loving it 🤣
@@BrandanFischer yeah, I know about the mobile chips stuff, but yeah I was paying Minecraft and Roblox at 15 fps. 🤣. Especially with the extra 4gb of vram. I mean 8gb of vram is a complete joke now in 2024 but gets it enough for what I am doing at the time.
Honestly it's less so that 8GB of VRAM is a joke and more so that game optimization is a joke 🤣 I'm running a 6950XT in my main system myself so I've got 16GB, although I might hop on RDNA4 if they release a really nice price to performance upgrade
@@BrandanFischer yeah that sounds good. I would get a RX 7900 GRE because I think it’s a good card at its price and the vram is a good amount for that car. But I am getting a really good deal for this rtx 3080. Getting it for $275
@@Tk-ed8ry My main issue with the 3080 is its VRAM. It's supposed to be a 1440p+ GPU but 10GB of VRAM is just not gonna cut it for max settings 1440p. I've seen RX 6800XTs for around $300 - $325 and I definitely think it's worth the price premium for the extra VRAM
Interesting how you mentioned Teardown is CPU intensive, but not the same for Minecraft. You are not gonna see anywhere close to those framerates on a slower CPU.
You'd honestly be surprised at how easy it is to push 600 fps in Minecraft! Regardless, the game is still GPU bottlenecked in this scenario so it's showing the most of what the GPU can do which is the intention of the video. I usually get 1,000 - 2,000fps with my 6950XT 😅 My main reasoning for mentioning Teardown being CPU bound is because there are dips that might be attributed to a weaker GPU, but in reality it's due to it being heavily CPU bound. Minecraft is a bit more forgiving than Teardown, as shown in the results. Regardless, I appreciate the observation and I might bring up in CPU bound games what CPU you should use to expect the frame rates I get
@@AvroBellow I always say there's not really a bad product, just a bad price. If you can find a good deal on one of these, they have a niche use case in SFF Dell systems
