  • The Dark Ages have been misunderstood. History has identified the period following the fall of the Roman Empire with a descent into barbarism - a terrible time when civilisation stopped. Waldemar Januszczak disagrees. In this four-part series he argues that the Dark Ages were a time of great artistic achievement, with new ideas and religions provoking new artistic adventures.

    The dark ages were dark for the West and that times was very bright for the people in the East.

    • @kiq654
      @kiq654 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dark ages didnt seem that advanced in east either. It was era of small noticing advancements that most didnt understand or hold as that interesting. Like bathing becoming again norm in big cities etc. Humanity seemed to crawl back to dark ages constantly, in europe at least as catholic rulers were paranoid about loosing in court battles without approval of cardinals and pope's approval. In far east advancements weren't as big as total peace and harmony is what they sought in their relationships and apprenticeships were based on trust, not vulgar disobedience. Middle eastern countries had bright moments of advancing human spirits but it ended with theology being establishment's preferred voice on any matter. Death to philosophy and urban development also. Islam dark age is still beneath your reach as societies try to crawl back to resting place of being curious about physical phenomenons, not just money making or spelling errors. Too many chains imposed by religious dogmas of past to consider islamic dark age to be over and done for.

    Drawings and statues of naked people is haram, therefore that bath house does not contain islamic art. If anything, you can call it Arab art. But it is NOT islamic.

    Everything was quite interesting but he used the word islam instead of muslims. Also Islam abhor pornography. Idols and images are forbidden and unlike christain churches which are always made in the shape of the female genitilia. Masjids (mosques) could be any clean place to worship the only one true creator. The elegant craftsmenship is not a must. The ummayads snatched the caliphate and were much like the christians who drink,sing and indulge with women such things are a crime in islam with extreme punishments and instesd of going to the paradise they will go to hell.
    Anyways, I liked the way waldermar talked but he ought to be careful before commenting on other people religions and culture.

      why do you have such a backhanded opinion on Christianity? I haven't seen a single church in my life that reminded me of the female genitalia,it is not the most important thing and every religion has people that lost track on their way through faith - it doesn't mean the religion is bad.

    • @TariqKhan-ne1dv

      @@anastasiab2099 dear I have not offended anyone, Christianity is not a single religion, it has numerous sects and we know that Catholicism exited before Jesus was born. There were many deviations from Christianity in its two thousand years and new religions emerged which were in fact man made and millions of people erroneously think of them
