We wanted to have some fun with this video, so we went to Rack Room Shoes and purchased this pair of men's Hey Dude shoes. We disassembled parts of these shoes and built them back up with a touch of flair and ruggedness. Now that we can check Hey Dude off of our list, what should we do next??

Do you think something similar could be done with Whites Boots Millwood line? I am disappointed with the longevity of the Vibram crepe soles, but I am satisfied with their comfort.

I used to wear the 70's crepe soul dessert boots from Kenny's Shoe store until you could no longer find them. Most comfortable shoe I ever wore and great for roofing on sheet iron. They really stuck. My son bought me a pair of Hey dudes in that same shoe. Very comfortable but not a everyday shoe by any means.

Nice upgrade. As a fun diy whim a while back i also did this to my Native Miles eva shoes when its eva sole wore out. I peeled off the tread of a used car tire and used it as the new outsole. I've used it for years when walking my dog and i just repair it when it starts to delaminate in places, usually the front. Good day and God bless. Cheers!

I never heard of these shoes until January of this year when my son was talking about them. They are really popular over here in Hickman County, TN with the kids. I see a few adults wearing them. My kids love them and rave about how comfortable they are. I reluctantly tried a pair on in the store and didn't think they were all that comfy or good looking. They're just not my style.

Many years ago, I once had a pair of desert boot type shoes. They were very nice and comfortable, soft with a smooth leather outer. I really loved those shoes! But I wore the sole out on them and thought I'd have to throw them out. Then one day, I came across a little shoe repair shop and asked if they could be resoled using a heavy duty Vibram sole. He said yes, but when I got tjem back, I was so disappointed! I hadn't considered that the design of the upper was unsuitable for the very heavy Vibrams that I had requested. The shoes were not confortable, and the lacing system of desert boots never provided the type of support for the weight of the sole. I really could not wear them and ended up throwing them out afterall.

As someone who has great pain when I walk due to arthritis and nerve damage - Hey Dude shoes are invaluable - I discovered them a couple of years ago and have owned several pairs. The big - and I mean BIG downfall about them is that even slightly damp shiny surfaces + Hey Dude shoes = Major fall. Your resolves look like that would not be even the remotest problem. I would love to have a pair like these. Great job boys (from the UK)

Those 'Hey Dude' shoes are constructed/built like nice house slippers. Originally, they must be pretty comfortable, but probably don't last long when used as regular day-to-day shoes. What an interesting and nice project. [this video sort of reminds me of Nick's rebuilding that pair of Doc Martens--taking a well-known product to an entirely different level]

    • @KDlGG
      @KDlGG 2 ปีที่แล้ว

They last as long as it’s just a day to day show and not a work shoe, if you’re just walking a moderate amount and don’t literally abuse these things they last. I know people who wear them almost daily and they’re lasting 3 years so far

Great vid as usual. Here in CenTex, they are also very popular. I'm a little bit disappointed that you didn't wear them at all. If you had, you'd know that all people, both men and women wear them for funky looking comfort, emphasis on comfort. My wife has two pair...Says they're the most comfortable things she's ever worn.

Not only do I not own a pair of these myself, I don't recall ever seeing them before (when I go to Rack Room, which I do occasionally, it's for sneakers; thus, I may have never seen them. But I'll certainly look for them next time I'm there). I do understand and appreciate that you guys try things that no other shoemakers I know of would try. But that's one of the things I love about your videos: pushing the limits of what's possible in shoe repairing.

Great work. Who would have thought that cheap shoes like these could be upgraded so easily (comparatively speaking). It would probably have cost hey dude an extra 20 dollars to upgrade their design to something resole-able with a vibram sole or a moc sole for those who want comfort.

  • @TAD050486

I could see someone eventually stepping right out of these as they fell apart because the weakness of the shoes couldn't compete with the strength of the vibram soles.

  • @60gregma

Sanuk makes a shoe very similar to this. The problem is that the fabric uppers wear out before before the soles. Especially where the upper meets the sole at the flex points.

I would pay good money for these shoes with this sole. Really nice work.

Thanks gentlemen for todays video. They are very popular where I live. Not my style of shoes. Have a great weekend. Thank you.

    Hah, this was neat!
Great job transforming the ordinary to extra special. Kinda like lettuce, tomato and that special sauce turn a plain hamburger into a deluxe.
    And just realized Heath shaved!
Great weekend, sirs, see ya! 👍

I was looking for something like this for the drive to the ski resort and bumming around the lodge. I ended up buying vans with their mtx sole.

How much to resole my hey dudes? I burn through a pair in a couple of months, if they had a sole like this, they would last forever.

Wish y'all would have put them on and given a review on the upgrade.

Kinda cool. I like seeing how things work -just for curiosity's sake. Well done. I appreciate your analysis "should it be done?" ;-)

I had a pair for about a month I’m a size 12 but bought a 13 because I wanted to slip them on and off. They were to small my toe hurt after wearing them. I ended up trashing them.
