I was at the BGT auditions and there wasn't one person in that audience who though Susan Boyle was going to be any good. When she started singing, you could feel the entire crowd's shock.

We know now that Princess Diana was manipulated and lied to by Bashir into doing that interview and that he played on her frailties and fears which led to her increasing paranoia in the last few years of her life. Prince William has said that this interview should never be broadcast again, so it appearing here in a list trivia is inappropriate in the extreme, because it diminishes Diana.

Obviously, this video was produced by someone under the age of 30. Other than the Princess Diana clip, the rest are all from the 21st Century, despite television in the UK having existed 50+ years before. Mind you, all, 'top 10', lists are subjective to the point where it's impossible to feature clips that are largely unheard of by the target audience of, you've guessed it, people under the age of 30.

@@Monkeypole well in the uk maybe. I only remembered him with his first song. One hit wonder and otherwise, when I lived in the uk, his reality show.(and before that jungle camp)... thats all. In europe he was maybe on no. 1, but... as I said one hit wonder.

I remember calling my mum in from the kitchen to come watch this one try to sing. Sure we were blown away by her performance. All the videos on youtube the next day were all the news companies reporting on it.

Yes they did indeed shock the world! I remember people fainting in the streets of Tehran when Britain got nil points, protesting on the streets of Kiev when Cilla quit live on air and Indias prime minister was fuming about what happened on pop idol!

@Gold Rose To maybe leave it to interpretation? Because of everyone theorising, they knew if they settled on one answer, a lot of people would have been unhappy and would have tried to disprove that one reason. Leaving it open is like any good story, it lets us imagine how he did it

Yes it’s very odd as he was famous throughout the 90s and 2000s, into the 2010s.
No this ruined his career for many years and he turned to drugs he’s spoken about it before. Ironically Piers Morgan was one of the worst people to vilify him in the papers - then had him on his life stories

Never heard of Susan Boyle until this, and when I first saw her in the opening of this video, I thought it was going to be one of those scenes where the compares said something bad about her looks, but then she came on and opened her mouth and.....wow, boy she can sing, what a voice!

That's the thing that's been so terribly cruelly ironic about the backlash over the Harry and Megan interview, shown bold as brass even in this video. Diana's 1995 Panorama interview. What exactly did that do (and ultimately sadly proove) back then? Also I had the pleasure of seeing Gareth Gates on the stage, he was our Marius when we went to see Les Mis. His voice was always good but it had gained a wonderful richness that often comes with more regularly performing in musicals. I would love to see him again. I also had the joy of seeing Will Young as the Emcee in Cabaret, honestly breathtaking

Susan Boyle had been trying to get on TV for ages. She'd been on numerous talent shows prior to BGT.
That Eurovision one was the night before my 21st birthday
The Susan Boyle performance was the hugest moment I’ve seen on television. No one has made my heart just melt like the thought of this woman of modest means coming out on that stage and blowing us away. I continue to be so happy for her.
And, Princess Diana. So beautiful, and so vulnerable. You just want to stand in front of her and fight to the death to protect her. Just a profound tragedy, losing this woman like we did.
The amount of inaccuracies in this video are exhausting. Actually I'm going to just call them lies. An example: In the Cilla Black clip (which is actually lifted from my YT channel) it's stated that "an exec had to come out an explain the show was nearing it's end". That's not true - he says nothing of the sort in the clip. He just thanks her for her years on the show. So why lie WatchMojo?

Eurovision is not surprising it’s less about singing and more about politics
Not sure we got 0 points that year due to politics, we just sent a terrible song.
Most if not all singing and dancing competition shows are, and most are ran by the same people no matter the country i.e. Simon Cowell is the runner of like 45 or 46 worldwide

Not sure what's most shocking, that there's nothing on this list from the last decade or how crap the video footage they cut into this video is. It looks like every clip was recorded on VHS then transferred. Is there really no better footage out there? I get that it's all in SD but was it all sourced from other TH-cam videos? There must be better versions of these video clips somewhere. It's 2021 and I've seen better quality footage from the 1910s.

Best example is the Princess Diana one. They do raid TH-cam channels that put up transferred stuff. Someone on here commented they nicked something from their channel. The most obvious sign of transfer is that line on the bottom of the screen that reverses upward.
